Habib Beye is in his usual upbeat moood today, and says we need 7 points from our last 3 games to stay up – if that’s true then we’ll probably be relegated.
Habib Beye – 7 points from last 3 games
We should caution our readers that when there were 7 games to go Habib wanted 21 points on the board, so what the Senegal International wants, and what we can get, are two entirely different things – unfortunately.
If we need 7 points from 3 games, after getting 4 points from our last 10 games – that’s a very big ask – but not impossible.
Habib has spoken to the Evening Chronicle this morning:
“We know what we need to do.” “I think we need to get seven points to stay in the Premier League.”
“We can’t afford to lose any more – we just need three points on Monday.”
This is probably the most important Tyne Tees derby game ever, although we have never really thought of it as a derby game – since Middlesborugh are too far south, and it’s certainly nothing like a Sunderland Newcastle game.
Beye talked about what Alan has been telling them this week about the Liverpool game:
“He said the game’s gone – we can’t do anything about it.” “We need to focus on the game against Boro – it will be the most important game for everybody in their lives.”
“We need to work, and we need to stay focused on the game.” “We play on Monday against Boro, so we have had one week to work, and to beat them.”
“Nobody thought before the game we could get something in Liverpool, because they are going for the title, but when you come to this place (Anfield), you want to enjoy the game and try to get something.”
“I think the first goal was offside, but they are a really good team, and showed their quality. They had more quality than us – that’s it.” “It’s hard to keep a clean sheet against Liverpool.”
“We have three games left now, and I think everybody knows what we need to stay in the Premier League.”
It’s getting to be touch and go for this weekend’s games, and the we could be dead and buried come Monday night.
There again, if results go our way, we could be 4th bottom by late Monday night with just 2 games to go, with our next game at home to Fulham, where a win could almost guarantee us safety.
Let’s hope for the latter come Monday night at 10:00 pm.
