Michael Owen Likely To Be Recalled By Shearer

Alan Shearer will need to field an attacking team for tomorrow night against Middlesbrough, because we need some goals to win this game.

Michael Owen – lets hope he’s doing this tomorrow night

And in terms of experience and previous goal scoring power, we have to think that Alan will start three up front – Martins, Viduka and Owen – in an effort to get those goals that could yet save our season.

Newcastle captain Owen is set to be recalled for tomorrow night’s monumental clash with Middlesbrough – after going through the emnbarrasment of not even being in the starting eleven at his old club Liverpool, last Sunday.

But that didn’t stop the Liverpool faithful from giving Michael a great welcome, when he was finally brought on, after 80 minutes in that game, with Liverpool comfortable at 2-0 up.

Shearer has hinted today that Michael has expressed some doubts about his role behind the two front men Mark Viduka and Obafemi Martins, and it could be that Shearer will push Michael Owen more upfield, for the vital game tomorrow night.

Shearer told the Sunday Sun today:

“Michael’s best position is in the box, getting goals,”  “If you create chances, he will score goals in any team: our team, another team, whatever.”

“It’s probably not ideal for him (playing deeper). He will tell you the same.”  “He is probably still more suited to playing up there with someone, getting in behind and getting into the box on the end of things.”

Alan also has the option of playing forward Peter Lovenkrands, who has proved he can score some important  goals, and has that goal-scorer’s knack of being in the right place at the right time.

A perfect start tomorrow would be an early goal, but even if that happens, Newcastle must go all out for more goals.

A one goal lead can be very dubious as Chelsea found out against Barcelona on Wednesday evening, and were eliminated from the Champions League, with one minute of injury time to play. That’s football.

4-4-2 whether Owen is played or not. We simply don’t have a central midfielder with the right attributes to play 4-3-3 at the moment.

…was quite surprised at reading the table in this story earlier:

…also quite reassuring to see Downing’s 0 goals from 59 shots ratio (how’d he go from sh1te hot to just sh1te in one season?).

…back to Owen, I’d agree 4-3-3 is a lost cause for us at the moment – unless Super Nacho is fit! (NicoGF?). Martins and Owen seem to have very little affinity as an attacking partnership – Martins is too unpredictable, they get in each others way.

I’d probably go 442 against the smogs with Owen and Viduka upfront. Bring Martins on for the last 35 mins.

I’d definitely start with some pace in midfield too though. Would be nice to see young Kazenga play a part, but I think there’s just too much pressure in this game for him to get a sniff.

With S. Taylor, Enrique, Nacho and Smith all unlikely to be fit, I reckon my team would be:

    Loving Grans—–Nolan—–Butt——Gutierrez

…thought about playing Colo in centre with Edgar, and putting Bassong on the left, but curly perm-boy has made too many stupid mistakes for me so far. He may well come good next season, but I’d drop him for this game.

Both Duff and Spidey will get forward, and Spidey’s pace and workrate help out Duff in his defensive duties. The ever-reliable Habib Beye will too get forward but also allow McLoven to run the smogs ragged with his pace.

Nolan and Butt will just chin anyone that tries to get through the middle. Ideally Nacho would be fit and I’d play him instead of Butt to string some passes together – but that’s unlikely.

Bring Martins on for the last 35 mins, scoreline will obviously reflect who.

Nolan playing and Lovenkrandz on the WING, is a truly disgusting team selection.
