Shearer Planning Pre-Season and Summer Transfer Targets

There is some not surprising news in the Sunday Sun this morning, that Alan Shearer is making plans to stay on as manager at Newcastle United.

Dowie and Shearer – at Newcastle for long term?

The news is that Alan is already lining up pre-season friendlies and wants to go after Spurs striker Darren Bent, and that’s fine, just as long as we keep in the Premier League.

It just so happens that Sunderland and Middlesbrough are also interested in the England striker, and that depends on them also staying in the Premier League.

But with Blackburn winning the three who will be relegated will come from 5 clubs – WBA, Middlesbrough, Hull, Newcastle and Sunderland.  So at least one of the North East sides will be relegated this season.

Blackburn Rovers should be safe now, given their good 2-0 home win against Portsmouth yesterday. That’s something Newcastle c0uldn’t do at home against Portsmouth, a couple of weeks back – a comfortable win.

Darren Bent is a good natural striker, and of course Bobby Robson wanted to bring him to Newcastle, at the time we got Darren Ambrose from Ipswich, when Ipswich were having some financial problems..

The news is that the 25-year-old striker would be happy to join Newcastle and play for Shearer, if  Newcastle avoid relegation.

Real Madrid’s Javier Saviola – who Kevin Keegan was reportedly after last summer, may also be available for as little as £2M in the summer, and is said to be another target, to add some creativity and goals to the side.

The Argentinian is desperate to leave Spain, and with Jonas Gutierrez and Fabricio Coloccini currently on Tyneside, he may find a move to Newcastle to his liking.

And Newcastle will be playing PSG in pre-season, and that’s part of the deal that saw David Rozehnal move to Newcastle in the summer of 2007. Rozehnal moved to Lazio, and he was in the side that were beaten by Udinese 3-1 yesterday.

Gökhan Inler, who was a Newcastle target last summer, was in midfield for Udinese.

Comments welcome.

Our bunch of wasters better come good on monday evening.
Our back line and keeoers cannot be blamed this season….well apart from
Collocini and S Taylor for some Titus Bramble type errors but Tayls has come good since.
The rest of the squad have been pitiful

I wouldn’t mind bent, Shearer would get him back to his Charlton form.

    God forbid he stays.

This is the worst Newcastle have played in two decades. I am sure we can agree on that. He neither has tactics nor semblance of tactics.

It is not poor players as many are distinguished in terms of trophies won, level of competitions played, experience both internationally and at club level.

We have by far a better team than Bolton, Portsmouth, Borogh, Hull, Most of the Bottom half and including some in the top half. Where we are poorest without a doubt is managerially. Shearer was a great player and I admire him so much for that but he is a tactical retard.

It is good if Shearer stays. He is a very popular man, this helps bring new good players who admire him. Maybe Shearer has no tactics still, but if he can make some good transfer (he will for sure) that’s good then. Of course he want Newcastle in the top, more than anyone else.. and he’ll try it as much as possible.

Listen this, if NU stays up, even I, would like Nacho to stay and play next season, to give them what he owes. Remember he promised NU would be back to its winning ways. He also said he has been champion two times in the uruguayan league and he sees this as a chance to get another with Newcastle. Surely we have a great next season if we can stay up, and Nacho stays.

Michael 12. OPEN YOUR EYES! WE HAVE A DIABOLICAL TEAM! You cant blame tactics for basic individual errors. The type of error demonstrated by the ‘experienced’ nicky butt virtually every time he touches it. How many points has he cost us by giving away penalties? We would be safe but for him lunging in.

    @Twiz.

We cannot buy a goal, everyone does not know what they are to be doing, mutating formations every 10 minutes, a chronic lack of congruence.

Our demise is not down to individual errors. That is total tripe. Every human being is prone to errors.

Saviola would just be Owen 2. Big wages, little product.
I would like it if we got Bent. He is very under-rated. That header he scored against us last year was class. Plus he still has some years left in him (unlike Owen and Saviola) and he isn’t a midgit.

Tend to agree with DJG on saviola like. I heard that Eidur Gudjohnson is sick of being a sub at barca & would like to come back to prem. He’d be a good buy. Should get him & Bent would be great front two, I would still love to see Dean Ashton in black & white but only if he can stay fit which is a big if, I just wonder if Big Al would fancy going for him as he has similar qualities that Al had himself. One things for sure if we stay up we need some creativity in mid & some strikers who can score goals.

Imagine that Gudjohnson and Bent in attack next season. I will be interested to see what players Shearer could attract if we stay up. I personally wouldn’t like to see Ashton come though. He would be too similar to Viduka, class on his day but usually injured or semi-fit.

Yep, been saying it for a long time, Bent is a natural goalscorer and as mentioned above , teamed up with Gudjohnssen could be a lethal duo.
Love to see Mbia arrive to put some backbone in the team, guys another Essien.
Of course would be too much to hope for , but McGeady would fit in well as both a playmaker and can score, something we have lacked in our midfielders.
Finally we need a big strong, central defender to play alongside Taylor, switching Bassong to the left wingback role where I believe he can excell.
We should also be looking at a goalie as Harper is not Seamus Given and is getting on, not to say he has`nt done a decent job mind.
    You got it Al!

Chuck – You are a tool and have proven this yet again.

Bassong as a wing-back, what, the, fk, are, you, on.

We will get none of the players you mentioned and for 2/4 of them, I’m glad we wont!

NicoGF – give it a rest. Every post you have ever submitted, with a bit of camouflage as a rouse, is ‘please play Nacho – he is so good’ – NOT FACT.

FACT = played in 2 games, injured all the other time, over priced injury prone loanee who should be shown the door. Marcellino probably played more games than nacho and he has been our worst sick note ever!!

Didnt expect you would agree TOM TOON as you have made it apparent your knowledge of the game could be wriiten on the back of a stamp.
Bassong HAS played left back for the team and looked a natural, with plenty of pace going forward.
We all know of his defensive abilities and his passing is decent.
Like most his crossing abilities need work, face it there are not many who can cross like Nobby.
I see you only resort to personal abuse, instead of presenting a valid argument.
You are probably right when you say we will not get any of the players mentioned, hey it`s a wish list and something positive.
It`s not that I come on the blog to make moronic statements and insult people.
