Mark Viduka – I’m A Massive Fan Of Alan Shearer

He had a monumental game last night and this morning Mark Viduka has revealed he considers playing for Alan Shearer at Newcastle United, an honor.

Mark Viduka – fabulous display last night

Mark has had injuries galore at Newcastle, and at Middlesbrough before that, but there’s never been any doubt about this players’ abilities and they were on full display last night, and mike Ashley must be thinking he has to keep Mark at the club for another season.

Alan talked to Mark shortly after he arrived in April and was asked bluntly by Shearer if he wanted to play his part in the club’s fight for survival. Viduka responded with a big thumbs up, and we remember Shearer saying he was so very anxious to come back and play for the team.

Iain Dowie has been working with Mark individually to get him fitter, and it showed last night where Mark was strong for 87 minutes of the game – in fact he was great for 87 minutes, and got a standing ovation when replaced by young Andy Carroll.

Mark Viduka told Newcastle United TV today:

“It’s great.” “I was a massive fan of Alan’s. He knows what striking is all about, he knows the position and it’s an honour to play for him.”

“Since Alan came back, the first thing he did was ask me whether I was in or out, and I want to keep this club up, that’s the most important thing – as do the rest of the players.”

“But he’s had a massive impact. Everybody respects Alan – he’s got that automatically. Maybe he doesn’t have the experience as a manager, but he has got that presence about him and I wish him all the best.”

Alan Shearer has quickly proved that his players want to play for him and they all seem delighted he is the new manager on Tyneside.

This also augers well for the summer, and if we stay up we can expect some new arrivals at the club, to strengthen the squad big time, because we don’t ever want to go through another season like this one.

Personally, my worn-out ticker will just not take it. 😀

Comments welcome.

Wow, Viduka was absolutely amazing last night!! His strenght on the ball is MIND-BLOWING!! Owen was crap he gets pushed off the ball way too easily and he was running into the wrong places at times. I hope Martins starts vs. Fulham.

2 players who massively owed us a performance gave us it last night – Viduka and Duff. I think these 2 were fantastic and that if Duff just had that yard more pace (which he has improved on a hell of a lot since first coming back) and a better cross then he’ll be top of his game, wasted at left back. Viduka’s composure on the ball and touches are like that of Sibierski (anyone fancy him on a free?) and he really helped last night.

I thought Duff provided something extra at left-back. He defended well, but still managed to attack effectively, giving us an extra bit of width going forward.

Question (off-subject – sorry Ed): Does anyone know of a reliable way to get to see either of the remaining matches on TV? Failing that, online? I know the Fulham one is a legal no-no for UK TV, but surely Setanta or Sky will pick up the Villa game?

Does anyone find it slightly suspicious that our last 3 fixtures were/are against Boro, Fulham and Villa.
Boro’s final fixtures were/are against us, Villa and Fulham.

    Coincidence or what? 😛

A more apt title must be – “Mark Viduka – I’m Massive” 😉
Viduka has always been a talent, but he was unfit and rightly dropped. He seems to have come back with some new found fitness. He’s never going to be C Ronaldo quick, but his strength can’t be doubted.
It’s a shame we can’t find someone like Shearer. Shearer had it all, pace, strength and ability in spades. There will never be another Shearer and I’m not just saying that because I’m biased, but because there are no top players with all the atributes he had. Perhaps Messi. He is a lot stronger than I gave him credit for, but I’m not sure he could hold the ball up like Shearer.

Sure he`s a great fan, it`s contract time.
Look no one can say Viduka when he is on , is`nt great.
But a handfull of games a year does`nt justify a big contract, however a pay for play contract would be ok , but only one year.
Like to see Bent arrive on Tyneside, natural goalscorer and lets get the key to success a guy to sit in front of the back four, Mbia checks all the boxes, neither would be cheap but compared to what other clubs have been spending, still within reason.
Those two plus a big strong central defender to replace Collocinni and let Bassong play as a wing back , that would be the basis of next seasons side.
Rome was`nt built in a day, but if there was any dosh left over McGeady could be the playmaker goalscorer inside forward we need.

“Does anyone know of a reliable way to get to see either of the remaining matches on TV? Failing that, online?”

I reckon either Setanta or Sky could pick up the Villa game – I think they wait to see which ones will be the ‘most important’ and as yet I think they’re TBC. We should know which ones they’re televising after this weekend.

As for the Fulham game, it depends where you are. I’m sure there’ll be plenty of North East pubs showing it on ‘dodgy foreign channels’. Nufc.com usually display this channel listing a couple of days before the game. For internet viewing, the only two online sites I use are veetle.com and iraqgoals.net coz I use a Mac, but there are plenty of other sites if you use a PC. This link tells you most you need to know about watching online:

Personally, this weekend I’m gona avoid the scores and hope Fulham is ‘Game of the Day’ on Sky at 8:20pm, failing that I’m gona watch it all on Sky’s ‘Match Choice’ at 10:15pm and tape MotD.

    …that’s me anyway.

Chuck, Bassong has said himself that his favoured position is Centre-Back. Plus he’s been our best CB this season, if not our best player, so why would you want to suddenly play him out of position?

…on Viduka, it would seem a shame to get shot of him now he’s fit – after paying his wages for so long when he’s been unavailable. We know what’d happen anyway, we’d sell him and he’d have a blinding season for a rival – banging in 20 goals in the process. As much as I’ve slagged him off in the past, he did show us glimpses of the Viduka we all remember last night. I’d get him on a year rolling contract if he’s still fit come June – but DEFINITELY get a replacement in too, someone who isn’t 33.

…yeah Batty, that’s another reason for me wanting to keep Viduka on a bit longer. Fk knows what was going on beforehand but it wasn’t right. We’ve topped the physioroom.com injury table for about 6 years in a row now. I’m hoping that’s now gona change.

I know Batty, it’s ace isn’t it! I was just talking to the lads at work today about it. Another thing that Shearer seems to have been doing since he came here is selecting the best team available, and making subs at sensible times. It’s good as a TOON fan when you look at the team-sheet and actually agree with it!!! Makes a change eh?
