Alan Shearer has come out today and praised the effort and play of Newcastle captain Michael Owen on Monday night.
Michael Owen – worked his socks off for Newcastle on Monday night
Alan Shearer talked to the Evening Chronicle today about Michael’s contribution on Monday night:
“There were some big performances out there against Boro.” “But you can’t forget about Michael. He also put in a shift without much success.”
“He was always a threat with his pace running behind. He had a couple of half-chances and would have gone on to get something if he hadn’t have been brought down on one occasion.”
“He worked his socks off.” “The lads who got the goals will get the headlines. But there were some big performances out there.”
Michael had one great effort with a glancing header from a Mark Viuduka cross that had Middlesbrough goalkeeper Brad Jones, brilliantly tipping the ball over the bar, in the first half. The number of times Michael gets headers in is quite amazing, given he’s not that tall.
And before the game on Monday night Newcastle had two points and just one goal in 5 games under Sharer, but then in one game we got all 3 points and 3 goals, and with a little luck near the end with Andy Carroll, we could have had even more goals.
We hope we’ll see some more goals from the lads on Saturday because out fate is till in the balance. If Hull win or draw at Bolton and we lose against Fulham we’ll be 3rd bottom again, with just one game to go. We have to remember that for Saturday’s game.
All 3 goals on Monday night for Newcastle we thought were good goals, but Alan is not worried about what they look like,as loong as they go in. Alan sounds like a former striker to us.
Alan said today:
“I’m not really bothered how they go in.” “They went in and it was a great feeling. It was a feeling that we deserved.”
“We would have been robbed if we hadn’t come away with three points after that performance.” “When you look at the amount of effort and the amount of chances it was magnificent.”
Alan’s right – and we need two more performances like that to end our season – starting with a great performance against Fulham and 3 points on Saturday – then we can really celebrate.
Where’s that Newcastle Brown Ale?
Howay The Lads!!

Owen doesn’t show nothing. “giving his all” is also one of those things he doesn’t show.
How many times he was in an offside position and when the ball passed him, he couldn’t stop it (touch it) because he knew he was on the wrong side on the defense.
One real attempt ? S.Taylor also had one chance. so what? He scored, Owen didn’t.
He get paid too much money for too little.
not only this game. the whole season.
alot of other not so “great” players would make the same, if not more then he did this season.
+
maybe without all the injures.
So Owen, I was really hoping you will not leave last year, and u helped us. But this year, you are just not trying. maybe you don’t have it in you right now, or anymore ?!
