Newcastle Survival Watch – Sunderland Lose!

nufc-crest4

Sunderland were beaten at Portsmouth by 3-1 tonight, which means with one game to go they are 2 points ahead of Newcastle on 36 points, with a goal difference of -19.

Newcastle have a goal difference of -18 and therefore a Newcastle win on Saturday and if Sunderland don’t win against Chelsea will see Newcastle overtake their local rivals.

In fact the Sunderland demise does not look good and if we had only got something out of the game against Fulham, even a point, Newcastle would have been in much better shape.

But yes, we know that’s water under the Tyne Bridge now, and we’ll need to stop talking about the maybes – because it just didn’t happen!.

However it does alter the situation at the bottom of the league, because now a Newcastle win on Sunday will definitely mean Newcastle stay up if Sunderland cannot beat Chelsea.

Alan was right when he said there may be one or two twists and turns before Sunday afternoon at 6:00 pm when all the games will finish.

In fact a Newcastle win in all likelihood will take us above both Sunderland and Hull in the table – we’ll have just missed Europe. 😀

In fact a Newcastle win means that both Hull and Sunderland need to win on Sundat to send Newcastle down.

Oh, and we forgot to mention, Sunderland are at home to Chelsea at the Stadium Of Light on Sunday, and if they can beat Chelsea – which will be Guus Hiddink’s final game in charge before the FA Cup Final – they deserve to finish above Newcastle.

Hull play Manchester United at home.

Comments welcome.

Great news for the Toon. A wuin away at villa will more than likely see us survive becuase the chances of sundelrand to beat chelsea abnd hull to beat man utd are slim. Even if man utd do rest some of the big players they will still go in as favourites. One player who will be key for us on sunday will be carroll that is if shearer plays him becuase he will play with passion as will taylor and Harper

We have just a better goal difference than Sunderland (currently by one goal) which may be important if they draw and we win.

IF we can manage 2 win – both Hull and Sunderland will have 2 win 2 stay above us.

Mind if we leap-frog both then sunderland will still stay up – but i wouldnt care coz we’d survive!

    Please win on Sunday!

Was motivation a problem for the game against Villa?

Then now it is definitely not!

    HOWAY THE LADS!

We must win the game on Sunday and relegate Sunderland. This is the last chance for our players, and fortunately they’ll grab that and redeem theirselves! Oh they will!

Hull are playing Manchester Utd, the best team in the world, and Sunderland are playing Chelsea.

If we can’t take advantage of some hopefully inevitable losses for our relegation rivals with a win against Villa then we truly do not deserve to stay in this league. If those players do not give their absolutel life for the cause on sunday I swear to god i’m going mental. Pitch invasion anyone?

    Oh dear!
    NUFC to beat Villa.
    Boro to beat Wet Spam.
    Scumberland to draw with Chelski.
Hull to get beat off Manure.
Scumberland and Hull go down on goal difference, HA what a dream to come true eh?
I can see the headlines now ‘Magpies rob the Villans’ ‘Smoggies smother the hammers’ ‘Black cats all at cheSEA’ ‘Tigers no match for the Red Devils’.
    Any more?

messi_is_king sorry but have to disagree for 2 reasons there secound team is good enough to be a top 10 team and all the players will be wanting to show what they can do as there is a chance for them to get in the c l final. 2nd im near 100%sure that ron is on the same amont of goals as anelka so im sure he would be dying to get a game to win the golden boot.

    Great news!!

But Shearer is afraid of the foreign HERO.. and he’ll not play Nacho. We will lose to Aston Villa.
(don’t hate me, it’s reality, it’s what’s gonna happen) results going our way yes, but we don’t seem to be capable of doing our bit. We can only beat Boro.

This is why I’ve been so insistent and won’t stop till it’s over, I think it’s the only way out to beat Villa.. playing THE-NACHO-MAN!

    PLEASE READ THIS!!!
I was in the pub before the Middlesbrough game and a topic of conversation came up that I found interesting which I think will be good on here.
Simply, Fulham stayed up by the skin of their teeth last season but Roy Hodgson has guided them to mid table security and as the last game showed, are miles ahead of us. Secondly Les Reid took over a relegated side in Portsmouth and they have now safely (compared to the state they were in) secured their Premier status.
The discussion was this, if both Les Reid or Roy Hodgson were appointed here, would they be hounded out before they were given the chance to do anything like they have shown at their respective clubs??
    Discuss
    cheers

Girth i agree with what your saying mate, and that is why i think one of the most important things is to try to get big Al signed up as he is the ONLY person that will be given the time to built a team.

sorry to be argumentative but i believe this is shortsighted and that is what has got us in this mess. Ive said it many times, im not pro Ashley, but im that dissalutioned with what has gone on with the last 6 seasons or so, all i am now is pro stability, that means sticking with what we have and getting through it, and that includes alan shearer…..
Seriously, all i want is a couple of seasons of nothing but and clear sign of steady progress, thats all, whatever league we are in, and ill be happy, because as we are now, this is an all time low for me…

i admit when we were a top half team we were hard to please with managers but i think its different these days and aslong as theres half decent football on show that would keep the fans happy and we would stand by any manager. the fans at 1 time could be partly to blame for managers coming and going but since roader got sacked we are blamless for the managers who have left are been sacked etc

Managers motivate , but deep down its the players that have to do it , really we’ve bought a lot of crap and wasted millions on players who were just never up to it , there are so many players I can mention who just were never worth the spondooleys , Marcerino , FKn H**L …
