Bruce May Leave Wigan But Not For Newcastle

Some rather strange comments form Geordie Steve Bruce today, and you can read into his statement he may be leaving Wigan, but not for Newcastle.

Steve Bruce – is he moving on from Wigan?

It seems like Steve’s position at Wigan is under debate, since he has refused to pledge his future to the club.

Bruce has been linked with the Newcastle United job because Alan Shearer’s caretaker deal runs out after their match with Aston Villa today, but we fully expect Alan to take the job sometime next week, whatever happens today.

But before he signs Alan will need pledges from Newcastle owner Mike Ashley that he will get the investment and support necessary, after what happened to his pal Kevin Keegan – and you can be sure Alan knows all the details of the earthquake that happened between the Newcastle Board and Kevin Keegan last September.

Alan will also want some assurances that Mike wants to take the club where Alan will take it – to the top! But he’ll need significant support from Mike and the Board to be able to do that.

The Wigan boss said:

“I’ve have really enjoyed my time here. It’s been terrific – we have had 18 months or whatever it is.”

“I suppose we are all in the shop window, you never know.”

As far as the job at Newcastle goes, he was asked what he thinks will happen at St. James’ Park and Steve said:

“I think Shearer will stay. That’s my honest opinion looking from the outside.”

“I was born and bred there and I turned the job down four years ago but it’s something that I don’t even think about.”

Steve just dreams about it – every night. 😀

NUFC: Steve Harper, David Edgar, Damien Duff, Fabricio Coloccini, Steven Taylor, Nicky Butt (c), Kevin Nolan, Danny Guthrie, Jonas Gutierrez, Oba Martins, Mark Viduka
Subs: Tim Krul, Ryan Taylor, Shola Ameobi, Michael Owen, Alan Smith, Jose Enrique, Jonas Gutierrez

Yet again the official site makes a mistake with the line up.

ALAN Shearer is forced to reshuffle his back four with Habib Beye (hamstring) and Sebastien Bassong (suspended) missing out on the relegation decider at Villa Park.

That means a recall for David Edgar and Fabricio Coloccini with the pair joining Steven Taylor and Damien Duff in a new-look backline in front of Steve Harper.
