A couple of years ago David Edgar looked a bright prospect indeed for Newcastle, and we all remember the fantastic goal he scored ta St. James’ Park against Manchester United on January 1st, 2007, when it took him all of 15 minutes to get the smile off his face after he had brilliantly beaten top goalkeeper, Edwin van der Saar, from outside the penalty box. 😀
David Edgar – likely to start today – good
But since then the youngster has lost his way, just a little, but has played well since his hero, Alan Shearer returned to the club.
And it would appear that David will get a starting role in one of the most important games in the history of the Newcastle United Football Club today at Villa Park.
Shearer talked today about the Canadian youngster, who turned 22 year old only last Friday, and could still have a career on Tyneside.
Shearer talked to the Newcastle Evening Chronicle:
“Eddie came in and did a great job for us at Stoke, and has had to be patient and wait for another chance,”
“This might be his chance. I’ve got belief in him and he’s up for the fight.” “They’re all up for the fight.”
This is a great chance for the youngster, and if he’s in at right back he’ll have to mark Ashley Youing, who is only one of many Aston Villa impressive youngsters.
But we have no doubts this youngster, at Newcastle since he was just 14 years old, will do the job for us today, and if he has a good game, what better way to reward the lad than to give him a new contract on Tyneside.
After this season’s woeful performance Shearer will be looking to sign players who have the heart, desire and pride that befits playing for a proud club like Newcastle United.
Too many of our current lot shouldn’t even be at Newcastle, and will be shipped out in the summer.
