Club Statement From Mike Ashley – An Apology

Mike Ashley, the owner of Newcastle United, who has been in talks today with Alan Shearer, has released a statement tonight on the Newcastle United official web-site. Mike has indeed, issued a formal apology, as we had requested after the game on Sunday.

Mike Ashley – a formal apology from the owner

This is how the statement reads:

“Seeing Newcastle United relegated from the Premier League has been a catastrophe for us all.”

“I fully accept that mistakes were made during this and previous seasons and I am very sorry for that.”

“I would like to say sorry to our magnificent supporters who have turned up in their thousands, home and away, up and down the country and who have given the team amazing backing throughout.”

“And I would also say sorry to all of the Club’s hard-working staff, who have gone about their jobs all year long.”

“Bringing Alan Shearer back to Newcastle United was the best decision I have made. Alan and his staff did all they could to try and keep us up in the short space of time they had.”

“Talks are now ongoing between us about how we can take this Club forward again.”

This is an excellent and even heart-felt statement, and has Alan Shearer written all over it.

As we said this morning in our article on Alan Shearer apologizing to the fans – we wouldn’t be surprised if Alan asks (demands) Mike issue a formal apology – and this is what the above is – and was probably written by Alan himself – for the owner.

The statement from Derek Llambias on Sunday night (feeling sorry for Mike etc) was too self centered – and showed the owner and Derek were just not getting it.

Mike may have got some Geordie  religion from Alan today – and he seems to have taken it in – and finally got it – well we sure hope so anyway – for the good of the club.

Given that Mike has lost around £100M in the club, because of relegation, and let’s face it the gutless players let him down (£74M/year for that lot), as well as letting the fans down, that’s quite a gracious statement from Mike.

But make no mistake about it, this augers well for the future – this augers very well for the future,  because it looks they have 110% confidence in Alan Shearer, and as Derek LLambias has already said – Mike is listening very closely to what Alan is telling him.

Excellent first step from today’s meeting!

Can’t wait to see what happens tomorrow – any sign of that white smoke coming out of  St. James’ Park yet? 😀

It is an extremely short statement to make. I hope to see more statements coming from him, but with good news of course.

I don’t think there is any point blaming Mike Ashley now. He didn’t have any experience in running a football club and mistakes were made. He has sincerely apologised for his mistakes and let’s move on. The only way now is forward, but of course you can still call for him to sell the club, but what if the next owner is even worse?

We all make mistakes in life, but the most important thing is to cut out and correct those mistakes.

If Shearer is happy to work for him than I am happy to give him another go!

I am however really quite concerned that he and Shearer haven’t agreed anything.

‘Talks are ongoing’ isn’t a great sign I don’t think.

Shearer knows the club need money and Ashley hasn’t got it!

Shearer is a professional and a perfect role model. With him as manager, this club can for the first time becomes what he wanted, a professional football team with discipline and without the jokes and the drama.

Ashley has wrecked this club. He has had his little helpers too but now the damage is done.
    It can’t get any worse.

Shearer will be appointed full time manager any time now.

hitman – it does seem suspicious it comes out tonight and praises shearer so much….so they can take the stance they did with keegan…blaming them for leaving.

Also i would like Mike to quit the statements, which could have been written by the clubs press officer to sound sympathetic, and for him to hold a conference with the fans or the press or even the solitary interview with SSN. Put words to his mouth, see how he answers questions honestly…as it is alot easier to determine if he means what he is saying.

If he is truely sorry he will back us to get straight back up, £20-30m would be enough with players like Martins leaving.

This is an excellent statement and has Alan Shearer written all over it.

    ——-

No its not! Far from it!

Yeah, i’m guessing Shearer said to MA “make an apology to the fans”.

    But this STINKS!!!

This should be at least a couple of pages long! but no, MA has too much pride and wont and will never apologise for his mistakes.

Well said Mike, now get Shearer on board and do not interfere in his building programme, and for gods sake don’t bring anyone in who will not work 100% with him to build a team proud to wear our shirt.
One thing l will say toMike Ashley if he ever views this site is to continue the good work with the academy and invest in the best 15/16 year olds even if it costs £250000 or £500000 each for them, why pay £10,000,000 for someone who may only be interested in a big salary.
That would be the only thing I would insist upon with Alan plus a fixed transfer sum each season.

I dont see the point in anyone signing a petition or fighting to get him out. Whats done is done and there’s nothing we can do about it other than stand together and dominate the championship next season. Ashley hasn’t made mistakes on purpose to spite the supporters, think about how much he’s lost, I bet he feels more sick than anyone could ever make him, particularly been a business man (obviously not a good one though). I feel we have a great chance to clear the club of all the deadwood and build from the bottom. We need to focus on youth, meaning giving the current crop of youth players a chance in the first team next season. We need to keep hold of what top performers we have like Beye, Bassong and Taylor. I would like to keep Enrique and guthrie also. With Viduka, Owen, Strolla, Colo, Jonas, Martins, Smith, Geremi, Cacapa and maybe Duff – if he doesn’t accept a wage cut – all leaving, it would half our wage bill and free some funds. One thing we have to remember, its trophy signings that have practically got us here or at least wasted our money. Can anyone actually think of a good signing over £5m we’ve made in the past 5 years?

Broken promises and loose words are easy, however A.S. is no mug and will have cast iron assurances from ashley. He wouldnt dare pull the same stunts again cos this time there would be a riot. I ma going to bed full of hope again, come on all pull together and we can walk straight back into premier league. Admittedly the apology was a bit brief and lame, but in comparison to lamearse saying he could have slapped K.K. Its a vast improvement.

Lets see Shearer get signed up ASAP and start getting rid of players that don’t want/deserve to be associated with Newcastle United.

As Shearer has already said Championship sides are ahead of us in their preperations. I don’t want to see us losing out on signing the likes of Beckford etc. who could be great for us next season.

I hope MA is sorry enough to provide Shearer with the funds to build a team of his choosing.
