Steven Taylor, that Geordie warrior who did his best to save the club, but to no avail, has again pledged himself to his home-town club today.
Steven Taylor – England Under-21 captain going nowhere
Steven, who seemed more than devastated at the final whistle on Sunday talked today about how he felt after the game – where we really deserved to go down – in all honesty – let’s not kid ourselves:
“It’s the worst feeling I’ve had as a professional footballer. It’s the worst day in our careers.”
“The dressing room was like a funeral afterwards . Everybody was devastated. I’ve got the European Championships with England Under-21s to focus on now. That’s all I can do, but this is something I’ll never, ever forget.”
“The 3,000 Newcastle fans who came down to Villa Park are the reason you play. It’s got to be an honour to play for Newcastle United Football Club.”
“No matter who you are, what club you have played for, you’ve got to give it 100 per cent every single game. It can’t be like the last 10 months, when it hasn’t been good enough.”
“I know there will be changes at this football club, but I don’t know what’s going to happen. As players, we haven’t got a clue.” “But I’d just ask the fans to stick with us next year. We’ll be giving everything to get the club back up where it belongs.”
Getting back at our first go will obviously be the party line from the club, and what we all hope for, but it’s tough in the Championship, and we could be down there for longer than we had hoped and expected.
However, we’ll know during the summer the type of players Alan Shearer is able to attract to a Championship club, and what kind of side we end up with before our first game against Cardiff City.
But there’s no doubt a winning start to next season will help to bury the nightmare of this last season.
Look on the bright side- we should win more games next season than we did this season, when we won just 7 games, and tied with Middlesbrough for the worst win record of any Premier side.
Comments welcome.

We might even play football that is good to watch again 🙂
I honestly dont see our specatator levels dropping below the 40 000 mark. So although im sad now i’ll be looking forward to next season.
Hopefully we have some stablility for once in the closed season…

Comment #84It’s all hanging on a meeting going on right now. If we get the wrong outcome, I can see us doing a Leeds. If Shearer stays, I think we’re actually in for quite an entertaining and groundbreaking year.
No pressure, then.

Honestly you nob… you are the only one that thinks you have torn my statement to pieces… and Im sure you’ll find many more people agree.
It is not my fault you see my previous statement as a personal attack… it was a merely a description of how people see you on here.
A sad.. lonely, person… All Im saying is you can be more by changing your attitude…
Be seeing that despite your obvious ignorance to the fact… you are not (in fact very seldom right) and you statements of so contradictory and so often proved wrong that you have absolutely no credibility on here anymore…
But really, please dont be offended when i ignore your statements or comments referrinf to me… i just cant be bothered arguing with a person who cant see past his own ignorance….

Comment #86Reetpetite – Must say I wouldn’t have cared if the spuds had finished with European qualification or not but your sad little one man crusade against our club has made me think differently. Next season wont be any better. Our clubs are very alike. We’ve spent millions on bags of sh*te and won nothing and your club is doing exactly the same. Your may be on the same slippery slope.

Comment #87jjj- so yet again you have ignored the facts in my post for another personal attack. Is that because i am right? You make a lot of sweeping statements based on nothing. You reckon you will get around 40000 fans next season. Last time you were in the first division you averaged 16000 for home games. You are probably only a kiddie and dont know your teams history so i wont lecture you on it. Your statements are built on hope and nothing more.

Comment #88Can someone confirm who, out of the names being bandied about to come in and help with coaching – actually have their coaching badges? I know about Lee Clarke but what about Rob Lee, Gary Speed etc?

Comment #90I could be wrong, but I believe Speed does have his, both Bolton & Sheff Utd have given him roles in the past…I’d give him a job even without the badges tbh!!

Comment #91reetpetite – 1 trophy for the money you have spent. You have to admit it doesn’t look good. Spending large amounts of cash like that and not qualifying for Europe will take its toll. Next season really is make or break for you lot.

Comment #92stevo- didnt realise you were paid millions for playing in the uefa cup. I wouldnt worry about spurs considering the predicament you find yourselves in.

stevo- we were in champions league qualifying form when harry took over. We are nothing alike as clubs. we win trophies for one.”
I believe Harry took the reigns in late October:
Fulham 2 – 1 Tottenham
Tottenham 0 – 1 Everton
Newcastle 2 – 1 Tottenham
West Brom 2 – 0 Tottenham
Wigan 1 – 0 Tottenham
Tottenham 0 – 0 Fulham
Tottenham 1 – 1 Portsmouth
Bolton 3 – 2 Tottenham
Sunderland 1 – 1 Tottenham
Blackburn 2 – 1 Tottenham
Man Utd 5 – 2 Tottenham
Liverpool 3 – 1 Tottenham
So basically your next FACTUAL statement says that this is champions league form????
Ie. You cannot win away from home, even against the exceptionally poor teams of Sunderland, Portsmouth, West Brom, Newcastle and earlier in the year Middlesborough.
Do you realise you lost to every single relegated club away from home this season.
And you still cant challenge or any of the top four. So how does this all of a sudden amount to Champions league form.
I can however understand knowing that a Spurs fan wouldnt know what Champions League form is like having not played in the Champions league for over a decade…
Man United, Liverpool, Chelsea, Arsenal, Villa, Everton, Fulham and West Ham will finish above you next season. Your wages will rize, you debts will mount and you will go nowhere but down…
Newcastle number 2, you are just about 5 seasons behind us… good luck…
