Let’s Hope Alan Shearer Buys British!

We’ve just about had our fill of foreign players coming into the Newcastle club, for huge transfer fees and on huge wages, and not giving a hoot about Newcastle United.

Alan Shearer – cannot go far wrong buying British

And as we will see this summer, they will be  leaving Newcastle just as soon as they can for pastures anew, after being paid huge wages and taking the club down to the Championship. Job not well done.

Now there is a big opportunity for Alan Shearer or whoever is the new manager to buy British, so we can have players who have the passion and drive to play in the English League, and know something of the history of Newcastle United – not just that the club are notorious suckers for paying out high wages.

We’d like to see Alan and his backl-room staff, bring in a fair number of young British players – maybe from the Championship, and we know there are a number of very good players who would love to come to Tyneside.

In fact because Newcastle were relegated it could be a win-win for both player and Newcastle – Newcastle needs these players now – and the players have a chance of joining Newcastle, which would have been a lot less likely if we were still in the Premiership.

Never again do we want to see a player brought to Newcastle who doesn’t know the club and comes just for the money, and please let’s not buy over-the-hill players, and pay them huge wages – when they are simply past it.

We don’t care if the players we have are no-name players.  A lot of the clubs above us in the Premier League last season, had no-name players and their teams were a lot better than we were.

Teams like Stoke, Fulham, Hull, Wigan, Blackburn and many more just outfought us – it does mean something when you are playing with tremendous heart and pride, and that can overcome, to a large extent, the skill we paid so much money for. Having skillful players with no heart = relegation.

And that statement was really proved last season.  Now is a huge opportunity to bring in young, good British players, but even then, only those who want to come to the club.

There are some excepytions of course, and if there are young foreign players, like Seb Bassong as a great example, then of course we should bring them in.

Bassong has been magnificent for the Magpies this season and we’d love for him to stay. He is young, abudding great player, consistent with a lot of heart – whoop- s  let’s not say too much in case Arsenal supporters or Arsene are reading this.

The Newcastle fans will welcome these players with open arms in the summer, after the disgraceful, heartless, spiritless and gutless performances, witnessed from the current lot.

agreed.. the likes of beckford and delph from leeds would be great. although delph might have his sights set on the prem (wow that hurts to say that) Swansea would pass us off the park so they might be worth a look at to see what players we could poach. It might even be worth looking at chopra again.. He is prolific at thus level.. ha ha..

Our best bet for signing british players would be loans from the Premiership clubs. Danny Welbeck, Darren Gibson, Ched Evans, Dan Gosling, Jack Rodwell, Nathan Delfouneso and Chris Gunter should be some of the players we should be looking at.

whoaa, that headline is a tad extreme Ed! We’ve had our fair share of fantastic foreign imports at the club over the years.

…the trouble with buying British is if they’re any cop they tend to cost twice as much as foreigners. I couldn’t give a gnat’s as long as they’re good enough, and committed to the cause.

Nolberto Solano or Kieron Dyer, hhmmmmmm…….

yerwhat! buy british – there just isn’t the talent around I’m afraid, yes you can say we’ve wasted a lot of money on rubbish foreigners but who you gonna buy – look at harry the crook at spurs, he’d buy british in a flash if he could but is currently touting out Huddlestone, Bentley, Dawson, Bale and even O’Hara, he’s hoping to buy Valencia and a few other foreigners of proven class.

We need to change our scouting system and have some decent analysis of players including psychometric interviewing to try and wash out any personality traits

Yes we’ll buy a few donkeys (as have man u, chelsea, arse) but hopefully the few good ones will make up for em)

You’re asking to do a Leeds if you think we can get out of this league buying proven championship players (they are proven championship players for a reason i.e. they can’t play at the highest level!)

    As i mentioned before:

Wouldn’t be too bothered if we sold most of the squad to be honest. It’s fair enough for duff to come out and say he wants to stay but is he worth 70k a week even if he takes a 50% pay cut that is still far to high for the CCC. This I’m afraid is the problem with most of our squad. Beckford has been transfer listed because he reportedly wants 10k a week… We are paying the likes of Ameobi 4x times which highlights our ridiculous wage policy even more.

Personally next season i think we could have a REALISTIC line up of:

    Krul
    S Taylor Beye (c) Bassong Enrique/Kadar

Guthrie Carsley (if we could attract him)
    Nolan Gomez/Barton Lovenkrands

    Beckford/Xisco

    Bench:
    Harper
    Naughton
    Edgar
    Carroll
    Ranger

Loan out martins 80k and jonas 40k

    Out:
    Colo 5 mil 50k pw
    smith 2 mill 60 k pw
    Butt 1 mill 60k pw
    duff 3 mil 70 k pw
    geremi 1 mill 50 k pw
    cacapa 30 k pw
    owen 105k pw
    Viduka 80k pw
    Nacho 30k pw
    ameobi 2 mil 40k pw

Saving 700k pw= 36 million a year …… will we miss any of these players?

    In
    Beckford
    Gomez
    Naughton
    Carsley
    Another CCC striker/DM/CM for cover

Combined wage bill for all these new signings should be no more than 150k pw. Will the wage cuts that taylor etc will take will leave us stable financially.
If we get promoted then we have jonas and martins to come back in. If not we can sell them…they would have had a years more prem experience and at least we’d get decent moeny for them not a fire sale.

Good balance of power/pace/stamia all of which we are going to need for next season.

Also 15 or so million from the sale of players ( 30+ if we sell bassong + martins). The 8 million from jan and another 15 from fat mike can easily fund all this.

15 million from sale of players – no chance, geremi is out of contract so we’ll get nothing at all for him and there is no chance of geting 2 million for ameobi – dream on man, you then wanna fill the team with players who haven’t even proved thier class at championship level and hope they can make it in prem if by a miracle we get up at first attempt

    I despair

I can understand Ed’s sentiment though. Foreign players who are not mercenaries are worth it e.g., Nobby and Tino. Now for an exploratory exercise. How many good young Geordies are playing out there but not registered with NUFC. Some worth having a look at? What about some young Scots? Any budding Welsh golden boys of the valleys around? Anyway – is it going to be Al? Ashley is not the fastest moving man on the planet.

rod. i dont think ed is suggesting we should sign exclusively british. i think he is suggesting that instead of the trophy signings of the past we should look at proper blokes… blokey blokes who graft. this league requires that.

“…psychometric interviewing to try and wash out any personality traits”

Interesting comment. I’d like to think something like that’d already be in place. Unfortunately I don’t think you can tell whether or not a player is a lazy @rse until he plays 10-15 games for you.

…also, Bellamy is a complete tw@t with a personality disorder but I’d take him back at the drop of hat (not sure Al would though!)

Barton will never play for toon agan if shearer takes job – I have that from the horses mouth (well as good as) – Barton has said he will not ask for a transfer and def not take a cut in wages, he has a contract clause that gives him a percentage of any fee we recieve ( as long as he hasn’t asked for the transfer)
Gutted that we’re prob gonna end up buying out his contract just to get rid!

I think really its lets hope we buy premiership experienced players, there’s plenty that have gone abroad that could do a good job here. If they aint premiership experienced we need to do a proper scouting job, Enrique has done well recently because of his physical attributes at his pace, these are what to look out for in others, its a similar story with bassong. Unfortunately I think collocini is a good defender but these are two attributes he’s missing which are the most important in this league!

Whats your suggestion then? That team i suggested would beat our current team in the prem. I think we could get someone to pay 2 mil for ameobi. Megson and Allerdyce both interested in Barton.

You say that signing CCC players isnt good enough to get promoted. Then you berate me for not putting players proven in that league into the squad??

Collo is still rated in spain so we could get at least 5 -6 for him.

There are plenty of talented British ball players out there to be signed up, but the important thing is having a real team and not just a bunch of good players – look at Burnley, they got promoted through playing quality football and hard work.

There’s no reason why we shouldn’t be able to assemble a team of hardworking players with physical presence and pace who can play proper football.

I want to see Zander Diamond from Aberdeen come to the club, but with Aberdeen in Europe I’m not so sure if he would or not. Boyd from Rangers would be interesting, so would their winger, I forget his name now, but I doubt Rangers will sell any of them, since they won the Title they sent out a statement saying that because of that they no longer need to sell anyone.
Beckford is interesting, I’m not so sure if he will be able to make the step up, and we really have to look at players who will be bale to make the step up to the Premiership as well, not just players who can do it in the Championship, we really can’t be short sighted about who we buy.

@TheAlchemist – mate I wasn’t having a go at you in particular but the fact is that we need to get out of the championship at the first attempt. To do that I think we’ll need to spend on proven quality which probably means a couple of young proven championship players (or blood Lua Lua / Kadar / Tozer /Spear / Ranger ) and a few players of proven ability

It won’t be able to get proven players in but if we have shearer and some cash to pay em decent wages (with a few clauses in contracts) we should manage – all bets are off if shearer turns the job down and we end up with kinnear back tho

    Barton
    R.Taylor
    Nolan
    Butt

and our best players this season were foreign
    i.e Bassong and Beye!!!

I personally think its bs that the players don’t have relegation cluases in contracts. The close calls we’ve had in the last few yearsI would think this would be a pre requisite!

We should be looking at Jordi Gomez what was it 14 goals and a fair few assists last season on loan at swansea from valencia. I think beckford would be worth the risk at 1 million personally…can’t be any worse than ameobi

@themagpie – maybe but personally I’d like a blend of younger players (which we already have or buy some better ones) and a few experienced players with at least a couple who can play at least another season in the prem (if we get there)
If we do get promoted we won’t have anywhere near the cash (at todays rates) that KK had when we first hit the prem so won’t be able to just start offloading players willy nilly

The achilles heel of Newcastle is not whether a player is UK or foreign but whether we have scouted him properly.
How many times did we watch Boumsong or Luque or Coloccini-probably none. We do our buys thru agents conning us time and time again.

I hate to say it, but I’d be very surprised if we get straight out of the Championship and I’m not sure it would be wise to think we’re only buying players for one season.

We have a lot of readjusting to do. It’s going to be something of a shock for us.

I think we need a combination of players.

Some will probably be ‘Championship level’ and may need replacing if we get promoted but I think others can develop with the club and there’s no reason why they shouldn’t cut it in the PL.
