We’ve just about had our fill of foreign players coming into the Newcastle club, for huge transfer fees and on huge wages, and not giving a hoot about Newcastle United.
Alan Shearer – cannot go far wrong buying British
And as we will see this summer, they will be leaving Newcastle just as soon as they can for pastures anew, after being paid huge wages and taking the club down to the Championship. Job not well done.
Now there is a big opportunity for Alan Shearer or whoever is the new manager to buy British, so we can have players who have the passion and drive to play in the English League, and know something of the history of Newcastle United – not just that the club are notorious suckers for paying out high wages.
We’d like to see Alan and his backl-room staff, bring in a fair number of young British players – maybe from the Championship, and we know there are a number of very good players who would love to come to Tyneside.
In fact because Newcastle were relegated it could be a win-win for both player and Newcastle – Newcastle needs these players now – and the players have a chance of joining Newcastle, which would have been a lot less likely if we were still in the Premiership.
Never again do we want to see a player brought to Newcastle who doesn’t know the club and comes just for the money, and please let’s not buy over-the-hill players, and pay them huge wages – when they are simply past it.
We don’t care if the players we have are no-name players. A lot of the clubs above us in the Premier League last season, had no-name players and their teams were a lot better than we were.
Teams like Stoke, Fulham, Hull, Wigan, Blackburn and many more just outfought us – it does mean something when you are playing with tremendous heart and pride, and that can overcome, to a large extent, the skill we paid so much money for. Having skillful players with no heart = relegation.
And that statement was really proved last season. Now is a huge opportunity to bring in young, good British players, but even then, only those who want to come to the club.
There are some excepytions of course, and if there are young foreign players, like Seb Bassong as a great example, then of course we should bring them in.
Bassong has been magnificent for the Magpies this season and we’d love for him to stay. He is young, abudding great player, consistent with a lot of heart – whoop- s let’s not say too much in case Arsenal supporters or Arsene are reading this.
The Newcastle fans will welcome these players with open arms in the summer, after the disgraceful, heartless, spiritless and gutless performances, witnessed from the current lot.

Trouble is, we don’t know anything about these potential new owners.
This consortium might be a recent collaboration and may not have been around in January.
Rich people don’t get rich by being thick.
Why buy NUFC fo £220m in January which might end up being relegated when you could pick them up for half that now?
People aren’t thick. There are people out there that want NUFC as it could be a right little bargain if it got going

Comment #82Think WORKEY hit the nail on the head, smacks a bit of zenophobia.
Yeah sure it would be wonderfull to have a winning team consiting of local lads, but its a pipe dream.
Even a team of players from Britain and Ireland would be difficult to field, face it how many of the top 4 teams have a majority of homegrown players
At present our new league consists I believe of mostly homegrown players, some possibly on there way up but most not good enough for the PL.
So enough with the buy British bull and lets buy who`s best, people like,Nobby, Ginola, Robert, Bassong, N`Zogbia, Given, Robledo, Albert, etc, etc.
I understand money will be limited and we will have little choice in the matter, but to come out and advocate we buy British, is just plain silly.

Comment #83well its pretty obvious that they would wait til the end of the season before making a takeover bid, they would have had to pay stupid money for us from ashley a while back and why would they pay stupid money for a club on the birnk of relegation, it would make no sense!!
how do you know they didnt think ‘ we’ll wait and see what happens at the end of the season, if they stay up great, if they don’t we get the club at a cut down price and therefore have more funds available to strengthen the squad!!’
would you rather they bought us a few months back at a high price and then got relegated and had no money left to strengthen!!

Comment #84Ashley can’t possibly get his money back selling the club now can he?
So either he’s serious about rebuilding the club and making it a success, in which case he should just get on with it, or that’s all BS and he wants to cut his losses and run.

Comment #86Rodzilla- Ashley is the man who was took us into the championship and halved our value as a club so he may also be thinking he hasnt got what it takes and he could end up getting us relegated again into league 1 and how much would he get for the club then, and if ashley continues the way has went over the last 2 years that could be a real possibilty!!

Comment #87Nick 69, for that very reason, why would Ashley sell now at a cut-price when he’s sat on a potential goldmine? My gut is telling me it’s all b0ll0cks. Plus, a new owner doesn’t necessarily mean a good owner – at least Ashley knows how NOT to run a football club now.

Comment #89I would rather they bought us in January and strengthened then so that we would have a good chance of still being in the Premiership.
The worry is that if they are buying us because we are going cheap then can we expect to be back up for sale this time next year if we get back into the Premiership?

I hate where we are at the minute. And I’m not confident of promotion next year. Dont think Shearer will stay and we will drop like a stone.

Comment #92little willie- possibly, but maybe they didnt get together until a month or so back when they seen the state we were in and decided they wanted to do something about it, and then they would be powerless to do anything to save us by that time and therefore would be wasting money paying a higher price for the club and reducing the amount they have to strengthen!!

Comment #94Nick, I just think because he’s a gambler he’ll try to ‘chase’ his losses rather than cut them. It just seems like a daft time to sell when he’s now recognised his errors, has a better knowledge of the club and is in a position to turn the us around – to do a runner now would damage his reputation EVEN FURTHER. I can’t see it myself, but obviously I’m just guessing.

Comment #101Absolutely buy British you cant go wrong, look how much better Man Utd and Chelsea would be without their foreign players!!
I just absolutely dread what sort of team this owner will end up with, I am waiting for the next balance sheet explanation of how the club needs to be run.
This time there arent one or two old signings bought by a previous owner to save us embarrasment, this time they are virtually buying a whole squad.
The scouting system looks terrible if they recommended the last lot of players and they have probably been looking in the premiership not the championship so whose expertise is going to be called for?
Remember their staff choice so far, Wise.

Anyway, this suspense is killing me. I’m sure we’ll hear something by the end of the week. All we know for now is as long as Shearer isn’t manager – anything could happen!

Comment #106I hope people start coming in for some players soon, If it’s true about the no relegation clause business then I could see Ashley putting nufc into adminstration so the players would have to leave. If they don’t take pay cuts or move on there is no way he is gonna continue to pay top 4 wages. This is my biggest worry atm!

Comment #107rod- but he isnt in a position to turn us around if hes not gonna invest in the team, and by the sounds of how the talks have went it doesnt look lyk shearer thinks hes in the position to turn us around or we wud have heard something!!
Keith Harris was employed by ashley to sell the club so he obviously knows he reasonably well and if someone contacted harris about a takeover he surely wud hav contacted ashley to see if he were interested and then set up a meeting, he would have met with the consortium without talkin to ashley i wouldnt have thought

Comment #108I think you’re reading too much into it, Hitman.
He flew up from his house for a few hours and went back again, if Harris wanted to talk to him it would surely either be at his house or his London office.
I don’t see both of them making the effort to come up here when it could be discussed closer to home, not to mention that the report said Harris is coming up to talk to the consortium.
My guess is if the report os correct then he’s coming up to talk to someone involved with the consortium, possibly Freddie Shepherd. If that’s the case then I hope the other memebrs of the group have deep pockets as Shepherd’s wealth is chicken feed to other club owners.

Comment #110what we cant have is a summer of unrest, we have got to have everything in place for the time the 1st friendly. no way i am having joe kinnear back at newcastle. the new owners will no that, ashley knows that, so i think shearer will get the job full time. a think people are aware of the up roar that will happen if shearer is allowed to slip the net so to speak. so i dont think that will happen. what needs to happen is, boardroom politics is resolved, shearer in place with his backroom staff, the money he needs to get whoever he is wanting, and then everything set for the warm up games to the new season. thats what needs to be done.

Comment #112Batty, nice one. Nick, yeah, who knows mate – I’m just always suspicious of what I read in the papers, been bitten too many times by muck-rakers. Personally, if I was Ashley I’d stay, let Shearer shake the club up, bring in his own people and give him around 25M plus transfer sales cash.
Anyway, I’m off now. See yiz later………..

Comment #114Does`nt look good, no agreement with Shearer as of yet and rumors of a sale, with offers possibly being made.
I suppose the price of a relegated club will be drastically reduced, with Ashley taking a bath.
Sorry cant see him selling, think we are stuck for the present.
Hopefully he has learned something from the disaster during his tenure as owner, mainly that in order to succeed money has to be spent, it takes money to make money.
I tend to think the present discussions are mainly centered around money and control and for Ashley to gamble as he did last season, by refusing to put his hand in his pocket and possibly rely on someone as ignorant of the game as Llambias, will be a recipe for a prolonged stay in the wilderness.
Lets hope there`s truth in the rumor concerning a sale of the club, as I just dont see any way back for Ashley, he will never be accepted and it has been a disaster for both the club and for his personal fortune, take the money and go Mike !

Comment #117Lets look at the facts-
Keith Harris said two weeks ago that people were starting to get interested in buying football clubs again and he did mention NUFC.
Sunday Sun had a article last week are takeover of the club.
Harris is in the North East to discuss a takeover as per SSN (and their normally pretty accurate)
Finally Shearer hasn’t commited to managing the club after two days. That to me says that Ashley really doesn’t know what’s happening and nothing will probably be done until the onership of the club is sorted.
New owners anyone?????

You have no clue whatsoever…
But if we were to look to Norway, we should consider Christian Bolanõs of IK Start. A Costa Rica international who has been BY FAR the best player so far this season in Norway. Fast, excellent controll and passing and scores fantastic goals.
Very good freekicks as well.
