Macas35 // May 28, 2009 at 3:54 PM

I expect loads of stick from this post but never mind. The first 24 games of this season Owen started 15 of them, and came on as a sub 4 times. He scored 10 goals. Now I know he tailed off the second half of the season, but to me that’s a damn good scoring record! So to say he did nothing for us is a tad harsh and I’m getting a bit sick of the Owen bashing campaign, its getting very boring to be honest. People can say he’s lazy, but if it wasn’t for other people’s hard work then there would be a lot of strikers who would never have become great players. His game has always been about poaching chances but we never supplied him with very many the second half of the season. I admit he has been poor of late, but his stats for the first half of the campaign were very good indeed
<<<agree m8

I personally will be sorry to see MO go. I know that will stir up a lot of comment, but I really believe that a lot the problems were caused by a pathetic midfield lacking both guile and craft. There are few strikers in the world who would have scored with our midfield set up.
True MO will not be picked up by any of the top clubs in England or Europe. Perhaps he will find a mid-table premiership club closer to home who will pay him,and his agent, a juicy signing on fee, but he will never again receive the wages he got at Newcastle.
If Big Al can sort out our midfield, he might persuade MO to sign a new contract at a lower wage level. He might even dangle a bonus for getting us back into the PL under his nose.
Given the right service I think that MO could terrorise championship defenders and get the goals we need next season.

1.3 mil per goal iis nonsense. We got a hefty compensation for him from the fa when he got injured. Ed is way too biased to be writing about owen."

Firstly the 1.3Mil per goal doesnt include his daily helicipter rides and was paid in compensation for the medical expenses Owen cost Newcastle who were treating him...
So in the end if amounted to very little...

But I agree with not blaming Owen...
Its not his fault he is pathetic, as if I got offered 100k a week I suppose I'd take it too.

I agree with Reillers - Keegan made Owen captain because journalists were bringing up lots of past bad history between the two, and Keegan was trying to create decent morale at the club. I thought it was a good idea at the time, but I was definitely wrong - along with KK.

Owen is just a parasite and basically stole from Newcastle. Owen joined Newcastle to kick-start his England career and that is all Owen was interested in. He bled Newcastle of millions.

If Owen was half a man, we would play for Newcastle next season for no wages to repay some of the faith the Club and Fans had placed in him.

No, this mercenary player will go off to another club and take them for millions as well. Owen is past it; as he no longer has the speed which made him good and has lost his sharpness in front of goal.

I've said for years that Owen is past it.
He's over rated, over valued and overpaid.
He doesn't deserve to be captain, he's just a big name has been who thinks he's better then us. He thinks he's doing us a favour, and has looked for every oppurtunity to squeeze the club for more and more money and privileges.

He hasn't done it for us, he never has. He's no interest in playing for this team. He's been waiting all these years to jump ship as soon as a better offer came along, but with all the injury he's used the club well. I'd love to see the look on his face when he discovers that no top 10 club comes looking, he's deluded to think that he'll ever play top team football again, never mind the top 4. And I wouldn't be surprised if no Premiership club came knocking.

He hasn't and doesn't lead this team. He's never done it for us.
Keegan made Owen captain for one reason only..to settle the past history. He apologised to Shay, most peoples favourite at the time to get it, and he said Shay understood, which is typical of the lad.
Keegan left, Shay took the captaincy for a few matches if I remember right, when Owen was injured.
Kinnear came, he considered changing captains, but again stuck with Owen over Given, apologising to Given again, why?
Kinnear made him captain for one reason and one reason only..to keep him at the club.

On neither occasions did he deserve it. Or had worked for it or had earned it for that matter.

His attitude reflects Newcastle lately.

Your captains lead by example and the rest follow. Owen was brought on and I think touched the ball once. He looked like he'd rather be with his horses at the races. As per usual.

He's lazy, he doesn't care, he's not interested. He doesn't try. When he rarely scores goals it's off other peoples hard work, yet he always takes all the plaudits.

He is well and truely past it. And I'm ashamed that he captained the club, I am, because his attitude sums up this club completley.

In it for the money only, not bothered, no fight, no heart, no passion.

When they conceded against Villa, in the second half, they didn't look bothered at all. They didn't even put up a fight. By looking at them they all looked ok with the fact that they were going down, and believed they were all ready, despite the fact that there was another 45 minutes to play, and despite only needing a draw in the end.
So they did nothing, and went out with a whimper..that is, Owen in a nut shell.

The sooner he's gone the better.
