Probable New Captain Habib Beye Is Shearer’s Type Of Guy

Habib Beye played through the Fulham game in significant pain, after he had pulled his hamstring, but didn’t want to leave the scene of the battle.

Habib Beye – Newcastle new captain under Alan Shearer?

And then it seems like Habib tried all he possibly could to be fit for the last Sunday’s game at Aston Villa, but he just couldn’t make  it.

Shearer talked about the Senegal International today in the Evening Chronicle:

“He was devastated.” “Habib is a top professional, a top lad, but it was just not possible for him to play.”

“He pulled his hamstring with half an hour to go against Fulham, but because of his situation, he carried on because he cares.”

“People would have seen he was struggling, but that’s the way he is.”

It turns out that Beye spent all of last week trying to find a solution to his hamstring problem in Germany by working with the medical staff at top club Bayern Munich.

However, it didn’t pay off. and Beye was forced to sit on the sidelines and watch a pathetic final 45 minutes performance, that deservedly had Newcastle drop into the Championship.

Shearer added:

“He tried everything to get fit, and he was more disappointed than anyone that he didn’t make it.”

We fully expect Habib Beye to be Newcastle’s new captain under Alan Shearer. In fact we now think there’s very little doubt about that – at least in our view.

Beye will be a popular and important captain for Newcastle, and he will set the example of what is expected from all Newcastle’s  players from now on – those with weak hearts and no guts just need not apply.

Grand memories of the indominatable Jimmy Scoular come flooding back when we see Habib Beye in a Newcastle shirt.

Comments welcome.

Beye as captain, would be a good start to a Shearer campaign.

Ed, I love your optimism. Just a few things before you can start saying how good a skipper Beye will be:

    1. Shearer has to stay.
    2. Beye has to agree a pay cut.
    3. Shearer has to agree with your choice of captain.

Still – it takes the mind of this waiting for news, eh? 🙂

BTW – interesting how two of the players most people on here want rid of have topped the ‘merit points’ league:
    http://www.nufc.premiumtv.co.uk/page/NewsDetail/0,,10278~1676557,00.html

That either means that we have poor memories, or that the points system ain’t worth buttons.

    Probably both.

Whumpie – The players that stay won’t be taking pay cuts. Why would they? Shearer will get rid of enogh of the top earners so we can afford to keep 1 or 2 key players and then build the squad around them.

you all do realize that the reason your defense and other positions for that matter are saying they will stay is because they are on so much money they will not get it else where they are not going to take a pay cut when they can see off their contracts here

Macas – nope, you cannot keep anyone on the same wages. No club in the Championship pays people £50k a week; it’s just not viable. Some clubs don’t spend that on their entire squad.

If our current high-earners like Beye want to stay, they have to take a cut – and possibly a bonus if we get promoted back up. Otherwise, the money has to be spent elsewhere.

    Shame, but it’s basic economics.

Sorry – bit mean, but they annoyed me and lost all credibility with that fabricated garbage.

I think we will hear something today, probably along the lines of “we’re still at it, please hold the line”.

okay 15 players are leaving where did you get that from ? and well it will cost the club to get rid of them or get rid of them at cut prices and well do you think the likes of beye who say they really want to stay (do you think he will take a pay cut just to stay at the club?) or do you think he will be off find another club wiling to pay his wages? if your players dont get the same high wages from another club im afraid your stuck with overpaid players does no one agree?:o!!

Geremi, Cacapa, Owen, Viduka, Xisco, Nacho, Smith, Nolan, R.Taylor, Colo, Shola, Jonas, Barton, Loverboy, Guthrie, Martins.

I make it 16. And apart from Guthrie, I wouldn’t miss ’em.

It is a problem. Again, I think Shearer is the solultion.

Imagine sitting there, taking your big bucks and knowing you can’t even turn up for training unless it’s for the reserves. If anyone has the gall to turn down a transfer or a pay cut after the team’s performance last year, they can expect the full wrath of Big Al for a whole year, plus their career to be sunk into distant memory.

    They’ll go.

Being a captain is not about being the best player on the pitch. It’s about leadership on and off the pitch, communication, leaving everything on the pitch, and loving your club. For newcastle, it also means bleeding black and white. There is only one player on this team who is Newcastle through and through. That’s our lad Stevie Taylor. He captains the U21s and there’s no reason he shouldn’t be captain of the Magpies. He deserves it more than any of them. Especially Beye–not to say he’s a great player.

okay well lets see how many of them go willingly haha cos they wont take a huge pay cut when there is nout in the contracts saying they need to and well there isnt really any need to push me from here if you cant handle my down to earth points then fine but im only been realistic and telling you how it will be (I known some newcastle fans can get abit above the water) you beat the boro and thought you where making a late move on europe well from the ones i have spoken to (beating boro was worst thing that happened to yous)

Whumpie, do you really think Guthrie would be on high wages?

I doubt they’d be that high, even relative to people like Barton and Smith, who aren’t the highest earners but still get a hell of a lot.

Who else believes we should give Xisco an opportunity in the champonship? Whats the point in paying £5.7 million for him and getting rid of him after only 1 start and 4 sub appearences, hes never been given an opportunity to prove himself yet and the championship is where he can. Nexts season i would play a 4-2-2-1-1 formation like Evertons with two holding midfielders, two wingers, one attacking midfielder and a striker (Xisco)

Whumpie – I think the ones Shearer keeps will stay on the same wage, thats the whole point of it being a finanical crisis unless they get rid of enough of the big earners. Obviously it will have to be sustainable, and I imagine that will be part of the delay while they sort out the numbers to see if it’s possible. I can’t see any of the players that Shearer keeps on having their wages cut.

How can an Ipswich fan be mocking us? That’s like us mocking Man Utd fans for losing in the Champions’ League Final. Just cause we were once in the competition (obviously not close to winning it) doesn’t make us as good as them.

I’m not saying anything about Ipswich here, just saying I’m surprised that it’s coming from a supporter of a club already in the Championship, which was recently relegated from the Premier League as well.

    Toon Factor:

I agree that we’ve not seen enough of Xisco to write him off. BUT here are the reasons why he has to go:

    1. We can’t afford his wages
    2. We need whatever we can get for him
    3. He hasn’t exactly busted the door down trying to make his mark. For ages he even refused to play in the reserves.

I’d look to loan him out and try to cover his wages. If he comes good, we can recoup some of the stupid cash spent on him.
