Habib Beye played through the Fulham game in significant pain, after he had pulled his hamstring, but didn’t want to leave the scene of the battle.
Habib Beye – Newcastle new captain under Alan Shearer?
And then it seems like Habib tried all he possibly could to be fit for the last Sunday’s game at Aston Villa, but he just couldn’t make it.
Shearer talked about the Senegal International today in the Evening Chronicle:
“He was devastated.” “Habib is a top professional, a top lad, but it was just not possible for him to play.”
“He pulled his hamstring with half an hour to go against Fulham, but because of his situation, he carried on because he cares.”
“People would have seen he was struggling, but that’s the way he is.”
It turns out that Beye spent all of last week trying to find a solution to his hamstring problem in Germany by working with the medical staff at top club Bayern Munich.
However, it didn’t pay off. and Beye was forced to sit on the sidelines and watch a pathetic final 45 minutes performance, that deservedly had Newcastle drop into the Championship.
“He tried everything to get fit, and he was more disappointed than anyone that he didn’t make it.”
We fully expect Habib Beye to be Newcastle’s new captain under Alan Shearer. In fact we now think there’s very little doubt about that – at least in our view.
Beye will be a popular and important captain for Newcastle, and he will set the example of what is expected from all Newcastle’s players from now on – those with weak hearts and no guts just need not apply.
Grand memories of the indominatable Jimmy Scoular come flooding back when we see Habib Beye in a Newcastle shirt.
