There’s not many times we will call a news report sensational, but that may be true tonight, with the Sunday Times reporting that Mike Ashley will sell Newcastle for around £100M, in what amounts to be a fire sale of the famous Tyneside club.
Alan Shearer – wage demands reported to be excessive
And the Telegraph is now reporting that Shearer’s wage demands to take the vacant Manager position at the club were excessive, given that he has no experience in management, hasn’t got all his coaching qualifications yet, the club is now in the Championshp next year, and Shearer after all, was only able to get 5 points from a possible 24 available, and in 6 of those final 8 games, the team didn’t even score a goal.
So in truth – that’s not an outstanding record on which to base an argument for a huge salary – at least not initially.
We assume Alan went and and asked for what he would have received if the club stayed up – which we understand to be £4M a year for 4 years – but now we are in the Championship, those wages will need to be trimmed, just like everybody else, because the club just cannot afford it, and has already launched a huge cost cutting progam, with 150 non-playing staff already laid off.
So now the future of Alan Shearer as Newcastle manager has been cast into some serious doubt, unless there is a White Knight about to turn up – to save our club.
If we cannot get Shearer to manage the club, then let’s offer the great Guus Hiddink £5M next season to manage the club, with an extra £2M bonus if we get promoted. Those figures are something we just made up – but give Guus an offer he cannot refuse – and it would be for a single season.
The money is really small fish, given the revenue the club will start making again in the Premier League – and Guus seems to love these different challenges he gets, to futher test his brilliant skills as a football manager and motivator – he would be welcomed BIG TIME on Tyneside.
He got a nice win in the FA Cup Final 2-1 today – against a gallant Everton side – after being 1-0 down following a superb strike after just 24 seconds, from former Newcastle player Louis Saha.
And Guus has made a huge difference at Chelsea – and he could turn the club around very quickly at Newcastle.
Of course it would take some persuading to get him to come to Newcastle – if only for a year – and it’s still an exciting thought – if nothing else. 😀
The other more likely option if Newcastle cannot get Shearer, is to offer Wigan manager Steve Bruce the job – and he would not refuse it a second time.
And of course he has had Birmingham promoted from the Championship a couple of times, so Steve has experience in both the Championship and Premier Leagues, and has become a much better manager over the last couple of years.
And of course he is a Geordie, who turned down the job back in 2004, after Bobby Robson was sacked . Sunderland are said to be after him, but he would prefer Newcastle over Sunderland – there’s little doubt about that.
But we are getting way ahead of ourselves here – job one is to find new owners – and quickly.
Comments welcome.

Comment #41Looks Bad…Ashley’s timing is impeccable…he was only interested in creaming the prem money.
The club is in a serious state..all the bloggers who have continually licked Mike’s ass hang your heads in shame…you are deluded.
He is scum.

Comment #44If Ashley had set out to do a number on us, he could not have done a better job:-
Best players gone,
Squad value slashed,
Club relegated,
Revenue a fraction of what it was,
1 in 3 staff at SJP sacked,
5 managers gone through,
NUFC a laughing stock,
Fans demoralised,
Players demoralised,
Have I missed much?
Now we have no manager, an owner who wants out as fast as he can, half left of a poor playing squad, no money, no structure, no plan or organisation , Championship football to look forward to and needing to start back into preparation for it in just 4 weeks’ time.

Comment #47Maybe Shearer thought “this bloke’s fooked without me and I want rid of him,I’ll price myself out of the job and force him out”
I wouldn’t like to end up thinking he was just being greedy wage wise………
Anyone taking over will give us more hope than I ever would have had under MA so good riddance.

Comment #48Ashley’s decision-making reminds me now of wheelchair-bound Andy in Little Britain – ‘I want that one!’
He couldn’t sell in September when there was something more than a wreck to sell. If there is no buyer for a couple of months (if a buyer can be found at all) are we going to drift into the Championship season with half a squad under Chris Hughton?
Will Ashley be satisfied until he gets this club wound up, or what?

…….
Except he didn’t cream any money from the club, he subsidised the running of it for 2 years with his own money.

Comment #51They say he’s selling for 100 million but don’t say if that leaves the club in debt to ‘Mike Ashley holdings’ or whatever he calls it, for another 150 million.
If I thought he’d written all that money off and the whole venture had cost him that much, there’d be some consolation for the destruction of our football club from the thoughts of Ashley’s fat fingers getting badly burnt.
‘I’m just a fan. I never said I was an expert at running football clubs’.
What a f****g epitaph.

He did subsidise the club with his own money and he hasn’t creamed any money out of the club, this is fact.
The problem is he hasn’t got the money to both subsidise the running of the club as well as splash millions on players every transfer window, lets just hope whoever buys the club has.

Comment #54The arrogance of this bastard. He got us relegated. I am convinced a monkey that a monkey that has seen at least one football game would have managed survival. Shearer now thinks he is God.
Bring Kinnear back please.

>>Did you had a fall and suffered from some head damage? Feel free to criticise Shearer for getting the club relegated, but bringing back JK?
What makes you think JK is less responsible for the club’s relegation? Keegan abandoned the club, Kinnear wasn’t too impressive, Chris Hughton was clueless and Shearer was left with 8 games to save this sinking ship. Most importantly, JK won’t last in this job considering his health problems and his constant trouble with the FA.

Comment #56Michael12 is joe kinnear in disguise 😀
joe kinnear was given more time and we wasted so many points after leading due to his too safe tactics which end up we losing or drawing, and he was also given the january transfer window to workout some magic, but what he did? NOTHING!

Comment #57It is what we have said all along. Fat Ashley is a wrecker who has no concern for NUFC, Newcastle or the Geordie Nation whatsoever. He is nothing more than a Thatcherite Shite. The treacherous turd has treated our club like a coal pit – shut it down, sod the workers, bugger the people. There never was any intention of hiring Shearer. Ashley thinks NUFC is a whore on the street corner. Get this fat bum out of toon as soon as possible.
