Newcastle United Blog To Stay Online

We have been waiting for some announcements from the Newcastle United club, before we decided whether to continue with the Newcastle United Blog.

This blog has become bigger than we ever imagined, and it now takes at least 6 hours of my time every day – now what was that about me retiring?

We were going to wait until everything got itself sorted out at the club – before deciding – but hey this is Newcastle – so our expectations were obiously stupid to begin with. 😀

And though we cannot make any money off the site – that’s not why it was started in April, 2007.  But with the club presumably now in real crisis mode – we are not going to wait any longer and we will announce right now we will be staying online. How can we walk away with the club in such a mess right now?

We will be taking 5 weeks off in July early August, but would you believe it – we (my wife and I) return from our European vacation  on the Friday (Aug 7th) before our first game – how’s that for good planning – and we didn’t even knwo we’d be in the Championship when the trip was arranged!

Small though it is – this is meant to be solid support for our club, in what looks to be critical times indeed. We are nailing our colors to the mast * – and those colors are black and white!.

By the way my wife Madeline, born and bred in Newcastle, thinks I’m an idiot doing this stuff – so no change there! 😀

Lastly – we’ve been nominated as the Best Premier League Club Blog – If you would like to vote for us, while the club is (was?) in the EPL, please do so HERE.

We will certainly not be nominated next year – that’s for sure – and we understand the winner gets $5.  We are in 3rd place in that vote, behind Arsenal and Manchester United blogs – looks like deja vu all over again – doesn’t it?

Ton4nufc – I tried that about 9 months ago – I asked my son Neil to donate $5 so I could check all was working.
But after 2 weeks I took it down – I had one donation – and I had to give that back to Neil- true story! 😀

I am new to posting comments on this blog, however i have been reading much of the comments posted. Firstly I would like to than Ed for continuing this blog; I understand that the blog must be rather time consuming especially seeing as we support all support a soap opera not a football club.

On the subject of Alan Shearer I cannot fathom why all the fans want him at the helm. His record was abhorrent and had little or no impact on results. I understand the players have to shoulder some of the blame but i still feel that Shearer is not the man for the club. Steve Bruce is the only manager for Newcastle United, though i wonder if he would really take the job? I would be shocked and appalled if he took the job for Sunderland due to our intense rivalry. I think Steve Bruce or dare I say it again Keegan could be the man. Keegan has promoted many sides inc Newcastle to the premiership. Keegan has a proven pedigree for promotion. While i appreciate that his appointment would be rather volatile, i think in terms of short term promotion prospects he could be the answer.

Excellent news Ed!, thankyou very much for the effort you put into the blog and for deciding to keep writing. It cant be easy getting up at terrible hours of the morning just to give us lot something to read and talk about as we fall out of bed at 10/11 on a sunday morning! haha. I hope you enjoy your well deserved holiday!

Still slightly reeling from the news that dropped last night. There’s me sitting waiting for the announcement we’re nicking Beckford from Leeds for pennies, and just days later it seems we’re taking the same route as Leeds itself did. No manager, no owner, no money!?…we need a hero and we need one fast. When i say fast, i mean within the next..fortnight, to three weeks. tops. If we want a quick start in the transfer market and to be fully prepared for the championship, we need our club to be fully sorted and ready to go inside 3 weeks i think. It just doesnt seem do-able really, does it?

    Finally some good news.

Thanks for all you do, Ed.

    But six hours a day!?

For your own sanity, I’d recommend you cut it down to one overview article a day instead of writing four or five dispatches.

That we you’d split the difference: give some time to your obsession (our beloved NUFC) AND give some more time to your family!

Either way, I’m very happy to hear you’ll continue.

    Thanks again.

Great news Ed. Best blog around by far. I can understand what you say about the donations link, but I for one would definately give some money if you put the link back up and I’m sure a good few others would now you have confirmed your keeping going.

also I know its been suggested before, but would it not be a good idea to let a couple of the other main posters on here to help you with writing articles, maybe the guys who were gonna start the blog if you had finished. that would at least give you more free time, and make your wife slightly happier!!

And Ed, maybe Tom4nufc is right–maybe people didn’t know about it. I tend to skip right over everything (outside columns, ads) and go straight to the stories and comments.

Living in the states, you’re familiar with the NPR model, right? Member donations? Maybe people would pitch in small amounts–?1 per month–to have support the service you provide

Dunno, just putting it out there.
