Chris Gunter Loan Deal A Possibility For Magpies

A little bit more news about Newcastle full-back target Chris Gunter, who we reported as being a Target of Alan Shearer yesterday.

Chris Gunter – a Newcastle target?

Gunter, who will earn his 16th cap against Azerbaijan tomorrow, is also increasingly concerned about where he will be playing football next season.

Chris said:

“I have been told that the manager (Harry Redknapp) does not want to sell me and another loan move would be good for me. If that is what happens it would be fine by me.”

“I have had two managers already at Spurs with different ideas and coaching methods. But never in my career have I had a run of 20 or more games on the spin, or even played a 50-game season. So I need to go out on loan to learn my trade, how to play a consistent amount of games.”

“It worked well for me at Nottingham Forest and if someone said I was going back there for a season I would be happy with that. I still have two years left (on my contract) at Spurs, the manager has not said I have a future or not because you have to prove that to him and I intend to do so.”

“But I need to know definitely soon where I will be next season and then concentrate on giving my best to whoever I join and see where we go from there.”

With Chris still developing as a player it would seem wise (for Harry) to keep the lad at the club and loan him out, and we are being told that if Newcastle are indeed interested the club would be his first choice.

That would be good, because what we need to do next season is get back to the Premier League as job one,  and if that means we we need a couple of good players on loan to do that – so be it. We should be a good draw for potential loan players next season, but the loans would need to be for the full season.

If we do get promoted we’ll then be in a much better position next summer to attract the best players back to the club, especially if Alan Shearer is manager.

Comments welcome.

So, Gunter’s concerned about his manager tally ( “I have had two managers already at Spurs”).

Is that all? If he wants to add more, then SJP’s the place for him!

This kid wants to play a consistent amount of games. How is that going to be possible when we have Beye at right-back? Don’t think a loan deal is a possibility.

Isn’t Beye pencilled in as a CB and hopefully captain for next season?

Anyway, if Shearer is to become manager I’d like to trust his judgement to get a competitive squad together.

Another load of twaddle. In March the lad is assured of his Spurs future. Now he is up for loan. That is a stable arrangement for NUFC. It seems Man U’s Simpson may be a better long term bet. Apart from that I have had enough of people associated with Spurs.

Again the tabloids are making up stories. Where in his comments does he mention NUFC. If Shearer has identified his summer targets he certainly wont have shown it to the press.

This lad works both flanks so could be a good option for LB.

I think loan signings can help us get some quality in without spending a fortune.

    We should look at:

Carlos Cuellar – Aston Villa – DF
Patrick van Aanholt – Chelski – DF
Michael Mancienne – Chelski – DF
Danny Simpson – ManU – DF
Richard Eckersley – ManU – DF

Michael Johnson – ManCity – MF
Dan Gosling – Everton – MF
Steve Sidwell – Aston Villa – MF

Ched Evans – ManCity – ST
Federico Macheda – ManU – ST
Fraizer Campbell – ManU – ST

I see Real are looking to spend around £140m on two players, meanwhile we are frothing at the mouth over loan signings. No wonder we might feel a little depressed at present.

We need a cover for LB first and foremost (but we should NOT let Enrique go!).

Then that supposed £10mill for Simpson, Gibson and Campbell from Man U would be an absolute steal.

Just a bit off topic, but if i was Fergie i’d let Ronaldo go for £70mill, then go buy Silva from valencia and Pato.

    Balancing the books

    Value£/m Wage£/k
    Martins £8 £80k
    Colo £7 £50k
    Jonas £7 £50 k
    Xisco £4 £40k
    Bassong £12 £5k
    Nolan £3 £40k
    Enrique £4 £50 k
    Smith £3 £60 k
    Geremi £1 £60 k
    Barton £3 £60
    Ameobi £2 £60 k
    Total £54 £28,860,000

    Viduka £80
    Owen £120
    Cacapa £50

£54 million in cash in to the business, however this will probably be phased over 3 years, and almost £42 million off the wage bill. I maybe oversimplifying it though as many of the greedy b**tards will sit tight and take the money or we’ll have to take a bigger hit on the transfer fees to subsidise their wages.

Newspaper reports on Wednesday claimed that Keith Harris of investment bankers Seymour Pierce was now in Dubai to meet possible investors – although the inference was that he was trying to drum up possible interest rather than meeting parties who had made overtures to purchase the club.

    Shearer quotes, Monday:

“I met Mike Ashley and Derek Llambias last week and we discussed at length the future of Newcastle United and my desire to be the manager moving forward.

“I made no demands but there were obvious conditions. We simply proposed an honest evaluation of what was needed to get the club back into the Premiership whilst building solid foundations for the future

“I fully understand Mike Ashley’s decision to sell the club as he feels it’s now in the best interest of the club and the fans. I hope to know more by the end of the week

    Enrique £2,5

Whilst I rate Gunter a lot, we should not be loaning any play unless we have it written in the contract to buy them if they impress.

However I believe the quotes you have used Ed, are pretty old as I remeber reading them a month or so back.

    Thats not a steal.

Campbell is just DECENT. Gibson is alos DECENT and I believe most people’s view of him is cluded by his wonder goal v Hull and Simpson is useless.

Any players loaned should be those who could enjoy getting regular football, playing in front of a packed St James’ and be willing to join at a pre-determined fee. This is of course unless we are desperately in need of cover.

There are still some decent players in the reserve sides of Man United and company who are at the stage in their career where they need to be playing but can’t with such a wealth of talent in front of them. For instance, the Man United website (so a pinch of alst is required) describes central midfielder Sam Hewson as follows:-

“Bolton-born Sam Hewson is a creative central midfielder, a strong passer who also likes to score goals. Combining an ability to break up opposition play and a talent to push forward and create chances, or indeed score them himself, Hewson is an accomplished player in the middle of the park.”

And he’s played a few games at Hereford in the second half of the season and got a few goals too so he’s not devoid of any first team experience. But he is 20 so he should be looking to get some games and could be persuaded to move on as Man United also have Matthew James and Danny Drinkwater amongst those also competing to get a first team place.

Firstly, bennytoon why are you still here?

Yuo’d said you leave if we beat you a sjp in the league earler in the season, you didnt.

You also said you’d leave if we got relegated, we were but you’re still here.

    As for signings.

Simon Cox of Swindow – Striker
Marvin Elliott of Brstol City – Central midfielder
Roger Johnson and/or Marc Beevers of Cardiff/Sheff Wed – Centre backs
    Gunter and/or Fox of Spurs/Coventry – Full-backs

two wingers with championship experience and maybe a little playmakers with quick feet from the french or german second division or some lesser team in spain, no idea who though as I dont watch the former two league and barely ever watch la liga. Maybe one from holland, a few of the mid table eredivisie players seem to do well in the championship.

tomtoon- have you seen any of those players mentioned play? Its just i remember you saying you didnt watch the lower leagues.

If i was the newcastle manager i would try and get 3 or 4 good young players on loan and surround them with solid, experienced championship players. Get out the division and then start again.

Fans on the spurs site i am a member off are raving about Nile Ranger who they watched for england. A lot of prem scouts were at that game. Be interesting to see if he gets a game and if he does wether newcastle can keep hold of him.

@reetpetite – agreed, I dont think anyone on here thinks we’ll be able to attract any players of note and most of us accept we need to get the high earners off the books – so that leaves loan signings and decent championship players.

Be interesting to see how Nile Ranger pans out – if someone offers a few million we’re bound to let him go 🙁

Na this Gunter deal looks like a non runner for two reasons.

    1. He is ambitious and would want to be 1st choice, which couldn’t be offered because we have the best RB in the championship. Plus would he really want to play LB and do we really want him ( a right footer) there.

    2. Danny Simpson and that Orr lad look like they would cost less and be more suitable as a deputy.

From what I have seen of Simpson I think at £1M he would be an absoulute steal. Although this might just be a made up figure. Even if they want rid, you don’t get to be at the best team in the world until the age of 22 if you ain’t a promising talent.

So you would prefer Simon Cox to Campbell and M. Elliott to Gibson, as striker and midfielder respectively
    Hmmm, interesting.
Getting Simpson , Gibson and Campbell for a total of 10m. would in my opinion be a deal, however believe Man U. would want more.
And face it unless there is a turnaround at this club (new Ownership with positive signs a working PR dept.) no one in his right mind would want to come here.
