NUSC Requests Ashley To Appoint Shearer As Manager

NUSC, the Newcastle United Supporters’ Club, has issued a timely statement late this afternoon, expressing growing concern for the club’s future, and asking Mike Ashley to appoint Alan Shearer as manager at the club.

The statement issued by the NUSC reads as follows:

“It is vital that Mike Ashley acts quickly to quash the rumour and hearsay that surrounds the appointment of Alan Shearer as our manager. “

“Alan understands the club, and, most importantly, understands the fans, and can only be seen as a serious selling point for our club. “

“Mr Ashley can resolve the relative instability at the club by making a decision that will make Newcastle United a more saleable asset by appointing Alan, and NUSC and its 1,200 members would call for him to act quickly and make this happen. “

“This decision will allow Mr Ashley to bring to a close his tenure at Newcastle with a positive decision for the club’s future, and it can only help his sale of the club. “

“This is an opportunity to show the fans that their voice is being heard in the corridors of power at St James’s.”

We applaud the NUSC for issuing the statement, which hits the mark in our view, and their timing is immaculate. We have to hope it alerts Mike to what is a growing concern with fans about the state of the famous Newcastle club.

It’s been hard enough dealing with relegation, never mind the increased instability the club has been put in, over these last two weeks.

Derek Llambias is due to meet with Alan tomorrow, and Shearer is due to return from his short holiday to Portugal sometime today.

We’ll hope for some good news tomorrow, but we will not be holding our breath.

Comments welcome.

Although I agree that Shearer should be manager, I fear that Ashley and co take the NUSC as seriously as Mickey Mouse and Donald Duck.

Beyethegreat your spot on, we will live to regret not bringing martinez on board, he is destined for the very top.
Ashley would also be making another mistake if he made Shearer the manager, he needs to have prospective owners options open not closed in order to make sure of a quick sale.
This is why he has employed Artists or whatever their name is to remove players from the payroll, what worries me though is l swear l heard the commentator say ‘all players are up for sale’

So in the meantime who arranges pre season friendlies, decides which positions the team need strengthening, who is being sold and organizes pre season training schedule?

    This is just Unbelievable!!!!!!!!!

    BBC News 24 –
It has just hit the news that Hull have been charged with fielding an unregistered player at the end of January ’09.
Apparently when they signed Kamil Zayatte from Young Boys for £2.5M on 23 January this year, there had been some irregularities with the transfer and he was not formerly registered when Hull drew 2-2 with West Brom. West Brom have been awarded 3 points for that game instead of 1 but it has made no difference to them, they are still relegated.

However Hull have been stripped of their point, which puts them on the same points as Newcastle but with a poorer goal difference.
Newcastle have complained immediately and if our claim is upheld, Hull will be relegated retrospectively and the Toon will stay up!

Carlsberg don’t do e-mails for Geordies but if they did this would probably be the best e-mail in the world!

on one hand i agree, we need someone in control asap to sort out incoming players, get pre season sorted etc, but on the other hand, i also agree that making shearer manager would not necessarliy make the club ‘a more saleable asset’ as potential owners may not want shearer and then theyd have to either sitck with someone they dont want, or pay out millions in compensation and face a backlash from the fans. so how would that scenario make the club more attractive?

Really I am not bothered about Shearer at this point in time.

As long as we sell the likes of Barton , Jonas, Gerami etc it would be a good step for now, we can play our youth for once in the friendlies to see how Nile Ranger can play alongside Martins and if Lua Lua and others are up to the task, also try some of our reserve defense alongside Taylor.

If Shearer is so deseperate to manage the toon why doesn’t he get together with some of his mates and buy the club himself? Just think of the board room…Shearer, Ant and Dec, Jimmy Nail, Kevin Whateley…err any other loaded Geordie Celebs????

Enough sarcasm but seriously he is trying to sell a club, he needs to appoint Shearer on a month to month basis Kinnear style just in case the new owners do not want him. If he loved us so much he would have no qualms taking the offer up

Am i the only one who gets fed up with other fans and sports tv and radio stations thinking that every Nufc fan wants Shearer as manager.
I personally know more fans that dont want him.
Dont get me wrong he was a brilliant player for us,but he had a lot more power than a player should have.
Obviously this has nothing to do with him managing us,i just think its important to remember ,hes not a lot of fans first choice.

    Good point Mikey!

Having the club up for sale didn’t stop him appointing someone last September.

He only needs to appoint him on a month to month contract and if the new guys want him then great, if not so be it.

Pre season friendlies are no problem to sort out, we know we’re going to the tournament in Deportivo already.

The club will sell the big earners and the players that want to leave and then it’s up to the manager to fill those positions when he comes in and knows what sort of budget he’s got to work with.

Not the best solution but it’s better than employing a manager the new board doesn’t want, which will mean another season wasted.

And after Shearer saying he would only take the job if his demands could be met, that he was allowed to have full control of signings and have a budget suitable to get us back in the Premiership, he’s now going to throw that out of the window and come back on a month to month contract so if the new lot don’t want him he will just walk away?

    Can’t see that happening.

NUSC should also request Ashley to jump off the Tyne bridge!

This man is clueless, he has even admitted it himself. He defies all logic known to man. It is solely Ashley’s fault that Newcastle were relegated. This mess is all his and it is only right that he did appologise.
After seeing off 4 different managers in a single season, he left it to Shearer to fight for Newcastle’s survival. A fight doomed to failure from the start and deep down, Alan probably knew it. He did his best but with a skeleton of a squad totally depleted of confidence, it was never going to happen.
If Keegan was allowed to manage the team from the beginning (he was only drafted back to sell season tickets) Newcastle would have finished in the top half quite comfortably – remember Tottenham were in a precarious position before Redknap took charge, now look at them.

Remember, Shearer was appointed manager by Ahley, too late I know, to save us but what Shearer does not know about the club is not worth knowing.
Shearer in charge next season can only be a bonus for any prospective buyers.
He is the players’ choice, he is the fans’ choice and he was also Sir Bobby Robson’s choice, what more do you need?
Oh yeah and Ashley, yer finished now…….. Get the hell oota my Toon!

Reuters describing Wes Ham’s new owners:

The future of Straumur is also in the hands of its creditors after Iceland’s financial authorities took it over in March.
Straumur was a major lender to Hansa, Gudmundsson’s holding company that owned West Ham, and the bank is currently working out a financial restructuring deal with its lenders.
On Friday Straumur asked its creditors for a six-month delay in servicing and repaying its debt to have more time to secure an agreement with lenders.
Straumur hopes creditors will approve a managed work-out of the bank’s assets by the existing management. The alternative is a distressed sale of assets, the bank said.

Thank god they didn’t buy us!

Flying Mag/Mikey 25, what are you doing about the situation other than slagging people off on a message board? They are at least doing something visible about the situation unlike yourselves and yes before you ask i am a member of NUSC and proud of it. The reason it may be seen as Mickey Mouse is because people like you are content to whinge on here,in the stand and down the pub and not direct that energy anywhere meaningful, thats the 1200 who’ve paid a tenner each because they believe in at least trying to build for the future of our club.Every single toon supporter has the opportunity to be on the committee if they choose,i’ve chose not to put myself up for it as i didn’t feel like i had enough time available to do it justice, personally i respect the people who have because they genuinely care about the club and the city, unlike Llambias who you seem to be parroting,do you like his funky glasses? Turn you on do they?Think it’s a good idea to spout the babblings of a wanabee Stringfellow clone who literally hates your city, give you a bit of wood does it? Make you feel all cool and that? Ask yourself this,is it worth throwing a tenner(what it costs to join NUSC) on a bet of 1000-1 that you just might establish a meaningful connection to the club and ensure it’s future or is it not worth doing that and sniping at the people who have like a little dafty? You seem to have got it a bit twisted, the NUSC was set up as a response to the ‘Boycoutt’ bedsheets brigade rather than by them, those people would struggle to set up a Playstation although i respect them in one way because at least they did something visible, got out there all from their hearts and for the love of the Toon even though it will go down in infamy and will be used as a stick to beat us all with.So what they gave it a go,unlike some Internet Warrior whingebags. How about you get your arse about doing something meaningful, even if thats posting up some ideas on here on a possible way out of this mess. You never know it might just inspire someone with an ounce of motivation to go and act upon them. You’re slagging off what could be our only hope of a fans voice that we may ever get,it will go nowhere if people like you keep rinsing out ya negative clatter,it will go everywhere we decide if people like you got behind it positively. What’s it to be chaps, hurry up and decide because if you don’t soon there may be no club for you to ‘support’?

Unfortunately Monkeyspantry if the average fan thought NUSC was worth joining then they would have more than 1,200 members by now, they don’t because you can’t offer them anything apart from the odd comment in the press when they can’t get through to Steve Wraith.

The reason why I’ve got no interest in joining is because after hearing the meeting that was available as a podcast I came to the conclusion that 95% of people in the Irish bar were idiots, with one of them telling people to not renew their season tickets before saying he hasn’t even got one himself!

Then someone else came out with the old classic “All of the season ticket money went in Ashley’s back pocket” which just shows how ill-informed these people are.

By the way can you tell me what you’ve achieved in the 9 months the group has been formed?
