We’ve always though Sunderland chairman Niall Quinn has been almost the perfect Chairman for any club.
Niall Quinn- great Chairman at rivals Sunderland
Niall of course is a former good player, and took the Sunderland job a few years back, and has handled the job so well, by putting a professional face on the Sunderland club, and backing whoever is the manager, 100%.
Yes we know it’s Sunderland, but we are talking about Niall himself, and when new owners eventually come in at Newcastle, we need some football man, hopefully previously attached to the Newcastle club in some way as the new Chairman, just like Niall used to play for Sunderland.
And once you get over the intense rivalry between Newcastle and Sunderland, and to a lesser extent Middlesbrough, it’s obviously best for the North East region to have all 3 clubs in the Premier League.
Think of it this way – if we’re not in the Premier League how can we hammer the Black Cats twice every season? 😀
This is what Niall told the Evening Chronicle today:
“I hated playing against Alan, but he is right for Newcastle United and I wish him well.”
“For us it was a feeling of relief because we stayed up on the last day of the season. We got away with it. However, after the relief, I did feel for both Alan Shearer and Gareth Southgate.”
“I think it is important to have all the North East teams in the top division.”
“I know both of them cannot win it next season, but I would love to see them get back up.”
“It would be great for Newcastle if Alan Shearer is the man to do it. I had every sympathy for him when Newcastle went down.”
Good words from Quinn, and yes it would be good if we win the Championship next season, with Middlesbrough a distant second, but we cannot see that happening with the mess Mike Ashley has the club in right now.
Things just have to get better soon – don’t they? 🙁
