Newcastle Will Need Chairman Like Niall Quinn In Future

We’ve always though Sunderland chairman Niall Quinn has been almost the perfect Chairman for any club.

Niall Quinn- great Chairman at rivals Sunderland

Niall of course is a former good player, and took the Sunderland job a few years back, and has handled the job so well, by putting a professional face on the Sunderland club, and backing whoever is the manager, 100%.

Yes we know it’s Sunderland, but we are talking about Niall himself, and when new owners eventually come in at Newcastle, we need some football man, hopefully previously attached to the Newcastle club in some way as the new Chairman, just like Niall used to play for Sunderland.

And once you get over the intense rivalry between Newcastle and Sunderland, and to a lesser extent Middlesbrough, it’s obviously best for the North East region to have all 3 clubs in the Premier League.

Think of it this way – if we’re not in the Premier League how can we hammer the Black Cats twice every season? 😀

This is what Niall told the Evening Chronicle today:

“I hated playing against Alan, but he is right for Newcastle United and I wish him well.”

“For us it was a feeling of relief because we stayed up on the last day of the season. We got away with it. However, after the relief, I did feel for both Alan Shearer and Gareth Southgate.”

“I think it is important to have all the North East teams in the top division.”

“I know both of them cannot win it next season, but I would love to see them get back up.”

“It would be great for Newcastle if Alan Shearer is the man to do it. I had every sympathy for him when Newcastle went down.”

Good words from Quinn, and yes it would be good if we win the Championship next season, with Middlesbrough a distant second, but we cannot see that happening with the mess Mike Ashley has the club in right now.

Things just have to get better soon – don’t they? 🙁

Comments welcome.

< Absolutely Ed. And I wonder Ashley and co. know how we feel and how much we hate him for his unprofessional behavior and countless bad, very bad decision.

There aren’t many about that I can think of. Kenny Dalgish is part of that Profitable group but that looks dead in the water. The only other I can think of is Ray Ranson at Coventry.

So many things wrong at the Toon its hard to know where to start. But high on my wish list would be for a savvy, energetic and knowledgeable figurehead like Quinner. Remarkably, for a football man, he seems able to completely detatch himself from the playing side and, at least when Keane was at the helm, defers to his manager in the area that rightly belongs to the manager.

But first, we have to have a new manager, then a new owner, then some new players before pre-season training begins. A chairman like Ho Chi Quinn comes well down the list.

I really don’t care a jot about Sunderland or their goon of a chairman.

Don’t write this profitable group off yet as far as I can see they never said they HAD made a bid. They said they were preparing one – which the media picked up on and spiralled it out of control. Whatever happens it needs to be done by July 1st at very latest otherwise we’re screwed

Quinn isnt a geordie – period, we need someone from the region who understands us, not an irsh bloke who might know about irland but not the toon.

I say we should go for Malcom MacDonald – I listen to the legends and he speaks more sense than anyone i have heard

Mate, are you trying your hardest to humiliate us? Sometimes it seems as though you are with the titles of some of your articles.

billy bunter- what a rubbish post. You will never get anywhere if you only ever want geordies involved with your club. Would you have turned down abramovich or citys sheikhs? FFS got you in a financial mess as did geordie managers shearer and keegan.

What has knowing about the toon got to do with who buys or manages the club. Wenger aint a cockney, benitez not a scouse or fergie a manc.

    Your clueless.

Albert has a point. The Profitable group said they were preparing a bid not that they had made one. If, as the press claims wrongly, they had then they would have fitted fat “slasher” Ashley’s criteria of first come first served. No, it is all still up in the air still.

Rightguys i have some good news and some bad news. The good news is the first link and the bad news is the 2nds link.

    http://www.mirror.co.uk/sport/football/2009/06/10/mcmahon-bid-to-call-toon-115875-21428711/

    http://www.metro.co.uk/sport/football/article.html?Arsenal_and_Spurs_look_set_for_battle_over_Bassong&in_article_id=682484&in_page_id=43

I think that the first link could be a good link seeing as it is from the daily mirror who seem to be a lot more reliable about stories than the Sun and the News of the World and these papers are the ones which are saying that Shearer is going to walk away and so forth.

Quinn gets cut a lot of slack because of his connections to the club rather than being a great chairman.

I wonder what the reaction would be if Ashley and Llambias employed Ricky Sbragia as manager?

ed doesnt have to humiliate us, it has already happened at the club so we all just have to take it on the chin, no point in pretending any different.

Ed must have a really hard job finding good stories as it is just the same old merry go round every Summer and January.

I do not care who buys us and for what reason I just hope someone does.

It is clear that putting the wrong chairman in place and previously Wise can be a massive mistake and bring a club down.

So it is valid having someone at board level who has more interest in the club than just picking up a wage or making a name for themselves is valid.

I think many of us have known that someone such as Bobby Robson or similar should have had a seat on the board if not such as involved position as the one at Sunderland.

Bunter we don’t need geordies at the club we need to move away from this crazy idea.

No to Shearer as Manager simple…Great player not a manager at this moment in time.

Quinn is a proper Gent,Done lots for charity and I see the Mackems improving steadily with decent investment.

@billybunter – mate thats rubbish, McDonald isn’t a geordie either, what credentials does he bring to the table? to be honest I think that with the demise of Setanta and the general credit crunch a lot of clubs barring the top four are going to go to the wall once the TV money stops coming in.
Clubs need to be on a sound financial footing with an earnings to wages ratio of less than 45%
That probably leaves Everton and Aston Villa as the only certs to survive, maybe Spurs although it’ll be interesting to see how much the crook has been throwing around in wages / backhanders once thier accounts become available

The deal with The Profitable Group is still on!
The group have said through the chronic they are dealing with Harris not that bunch of knackers, Ashlley and Llambias.
Harris’ duty is to sell to the bidder who offers the best deal beyond the obvious selling price.
He will not be swayed by those two idiots as an agreement has been signed to get the best deal for the club not Ashley, as long as the asking price is reached.
So don’t be disheartened yet folks.

Looka – I am Billy Bunter – Reet is reet.

And for what its worth – he claims to say Geordies arent the way forward. No one from inside the toon would say that – only an outsider.

Geordies are the only ones who care – but we do need an arabs money to help us, I accept that.

I didnt no Supermac was from fulham, so he cant be our chairman, what about someone like Freddie Shepherd coming back – he bleeds for us – he would sort us out – and he spends money – if he has a sheek backing him we could win the premier league in 2 years man
