It may be that Alan Shearer has started work at Newcastle, because magically we have arranged three friendlies as part of our pre-season preparations for one of the most important seasons for a very long time at Newcastle.
Alan Shearer – three friendlies quickly arranged by somebody
We have lined up an away game with Darlington, managed by Colin Todd, at the Darlington Arena on Saturday, July 18th, with a 12:30 pm kick off time.
And we will visit Lee Clark’s Huddersfield Town (surprise, surprise) in a pre-season friendly on Tuesday, 21 July at the Galpharm Stadium at 7:45 pm.
Town manager Lee Clark is of course a former player and coach at his home-town club and a former team-mate of the new Newcastle manager Alan Shearer (there’s a little bit of hope in the last part of that sentence). 😀
And Newcastle will host Leeds United, a team we have got to know rather well since we were relegated, and it’s great we’ll be playing them in pre-season. Maybe in a couple of years both teams will be back in the Premier League – where we both belong – hope so anyway.
The game is scheduled for Wednesday, July 29th, 7:45 pm kick off, and Leeds United manager Simon Grayson said:
“It should be a great game for both sides.”
“Newcastle are obviously preparing for what they hope will be a promotion-winning season for them and we are doing likewise.”
“It may be a pre-season friendly, but I don’t think there would be many people out there that wouldn’t say that Leeds against Newcastle doesn’t have all the hallmarks of a Premier League game.”
With Newcastle’s relegation to the Championship we have heard a lot from Leeds fans, and they’ve been very sympathetic, unlike a lot of the press we’ve received, and we know the Leeds fans have gone through hell and high water with their team since 2004, but it now looks like they could well be on their way back.
Those are three decent friendlies for Newcastle – now we just need Alan announced as manager tomorrow, and we could be Three on our way!
