Reports All Interested Parties Want Shearer As Manager

The Newcastle Journal has some good news today regarding the appointment of Alan Shearer.

Mike Ashley – continues to sit on the fence while Newcastle burns

While Alan has not been appointed yet, the Journal is reporting tha indeed the four groups who are in due diligence with the club, have Alan Shearer as their overwhelming choice to become permanent manager.

The Newcastle club has been placed in a perilous situation by Mike Ashley, who is now saying it is up to the new owners to appoint the manager they want. However, we will not know who the new owners will be for some weeks yet, and then the question is who is the captain of the ship as it is currently drifting aimlessly in the ocean?

It doesn’t seem that Ashley cares too much, but it is still hoped that some deal can be made with Shearer quickly, but of course there still could be problems in the due diligence process so appointing Alan now could be risky.

But somebody has to be thinking of the club right now, and Alan needs to be appointed, otherwise we’ll be in a lot worse shape in a few weeks, although that’s getting hard to imagine. But the club seems to be in that window that nobody is willing to take the responsibility right now – for the club.

Shearer remains hopeful a breakthrough is near, and he is doing the right thing by remaining quietly on the sidelines, but we would hope he is unofficially in contact with some potential transfer targets and some of our players telling them something could be announced very shortly.

A source close to the former England and Newcastle captain told the Journal

“Seeing the fixtures for the first time has only highlighted how close the new season is and what a mess Newcastle are in. Alan wants to get cracking, there is so much which needs to be done and he knows it.”

“We have been told that something could happen in the next few days in terms of appointing a manager, but who knows how people are going to react when they see the books for the first time. If there are four interested people now, there might just be one left in a couple of days time.”

“All Alan wants is a decision. This has dragged on for far too long. Hopefully there will be a breakthrough soon because Newcastle need a manager if they are going to recover from relegation next season.”

Good sensible words there from whoever that source is – and it could be Iain Dowie, who will be in contact with Alan day to day – and could even be meeting with him and Paul Ferris to plan the transfers for when Ashley or whoever, finally decides to make a decision  …… after 25 days in limbo.

The situation at the club is little short of ridiculous and there’s been no reason Ashely couldn’t have appointed Shearer weeks ago. Yes, it could be that the new owners don’t want Shearer in – but that chance has always seemed minuscule – given the Newcastle fans – who are the customers of the club – want him in overwhelmingly.

Which sensible owner would go against the Newcastle fans as their first act as owners?   Yes we know Ashley would – but he’ll be gone soon. 😀

And from a business viewpoint he would help to sell those season tickets too, which will be important for Newcastle’s financial state next season.

We’re not going to lay into Ashley again – we will just say we are surprised, very surprised  at his seeming complete inability to fully understand the situation at the club.

We’ll leave it there, and we have to hope some common sense will be restored to the club – very soon.

Comments welcome.

dont get too excited – due dillengence could still see all parties pulling out after realising the state the club is in, we could all be sitting here in 6 weeks time still ownerless and managerless

A strange end to the article there Ed. 😛

Hopefully that “big” announcement will be released this Thursday as Llambias hinted at. Although when were Ashley/Llambias ever known to be reliable?

if we’re ownerless and managerless come the 1st july, we need to have a peaceful sit in protest in the reception/milburn entrance area until ashley grows the balls to do as the fans wish and appoint shearer. coz at the minute, with no one in charge, he is purposefully destroying the club

I think you’ll find out that not every Newcastle fans want Shearer. Although on this blog I’ve nearly only seen that. But there are on other blogs/forums quiet a few fans who would like a more experienced manager. So that’s probably why Ashley hasn’t appointed Shearer yet.
I’m not saying it was the right choice, far from, but just giving an explanation.

I think we are going to have to use the local press for info on all of this and ignore the London based bullshiterazzi. Hopefully it is true about Shearer being the choice of buyers. But will Ashley take any notice before the actual sale? I think there is a malevolent and vindictive streak in Ashley that we should be beware of – yes, I agree, Ashley needs horns!

There are better managers than Shearer just waiting for our call:

    Bulent Uygun
    Paul Jewell
    Delio Rossi
    Lothar Matthaus
    Nanne Bergstand-Kalmar
    Alan Irvine

But if Shearer gets the job so be it,i’ll be behind him 100 %.

Well, people keep on about experience…

    I PARTICULARLY DONT WANT EXPERIENCE!!!!

I want someone young, hungry and new, with fresh ideas who can take a young squad and build it into his own over a few years.

There just arnt any excellent “experienced managers” out there interested in us so lets rather give someone new a chance…

I think theres no better start than Alan Shearer if we go that route.

Ed – why, in every article do you still make this daft claim that “there’s been no reason Ashely couldn’t have appointed Shearer weeks ago”??

How the hell do you know that? Have you seen the contents of the ‘data room’? Do you have copies of all the contracts, including the finance agreements with the banks?

It strikes me that there obviously IS a reason why he couldn’t be appointed – there are probably several.

For a start, do you honestly think Barclays would have continued to lend this drowning club forty million quid – more than next year’s turnover – if they didn’t have final say over new contracts worth more than a certain amount?

And what about Big Al? Has it not occurred to anyone that perhaps HE doesn’t want to sign up until he knows who his boss will be or the structure of the club?

PLEASE stop making that statement – it’s just daft.

Sounds bunkum to me. Any Prospectus would contain a financial overview. Due diligence isnt about looking at the financials for the first time. its about ratifying everything is as it is portrayed within the prospectus and making sure there are no hidden surprises that dont need to be necessarily explained within the prospectus.

There was no “hint” of an announcement!!!

I cant believe people keep falling into the presses trap.

All Llambias said was that they cannot appoint a manager because that will be up to whoever buys the club…
They do not know who is buying the club and therefore we wont have a manager until they do!
Why is it so hard for people to read directly into things instead of always looking for a deeper “hidden” meaning?!?

JJJ – actually, Llamearse did specifically say that Shearer could be appointed before the sale as long as all the bidders wanted him.

Whether that was just more BS to get us off his back (FAIL!!) we’ll have to wait and see.

Can we just remember though (AND ESPECIALLY YOU, ED) that he also said today was the EARLIEST and that it could take until next week. I’d expect the latter, if at all.

    Hate that idiot.

JJJ and Stardust, how come assuming Shearer will be manager because ALL FOUR interested parties want him in as manager, is “looking for a hidden meaning”. It seems pretty obvious to me. I suppose I haven’t seen any ‘direct’ quotes from each individual party, if that’s what you’re both referring to.

BTG, I doubt it mate, I can see him grabbing his 9m compo or whatever it is and shipping out. Management seems to cause him too much stress.

Dunno if true but there’s reports Bass is in talks with 2 Prem clubs.
What I would say regarding the impatience of fans for white smoke from SJP is if Ash knew he was selling following relegation – surely he had weeks and weeks to ponder that, then why the hell did it take 3 weeks to have the club’s books put into a fit state to open them to prospective buyers? Time is of the essence to the club but Ash doesn’t give a toss. Its typical of his overall rather lazy management style – preferring pulling strokes, brinkmanship and risk-taking to solid structure and well-considered, patient building. We might have enjoyed a short success under him, had the wheel of fortune swung our way, but longer term, we are well shot of this bloke.

Rodzilla – my take on this article is that its rubbish – as because of my statement above re the financial disclosures within the prospectus and the way the above is phrased.

Also the article is that poor and NDA’s are signed all round, how would they possibly know what ALL four parties wanted.

    Ed Edline was “reports-all-interested-parties-want-shearer-as-manager”

I see no evidence of that whatsoever.

Stardust, yeah, I did try looking for quotes and I suppose the lack of these will be due to the NDAs. Word does spread though, as we know through ‘insiders’ and ‘sources’. You’re right though, there IS no “evidence”.
