More good news from the Evening Chronicle today, regarding Alan Shearer’s future at Newcastle United.

Alan Shearer - important meeting on Friday in London
Sources in London have confirmed to the Evening Chronicle today some big move on Ashley’s attempt to sell the club will come on Friday.
The Evening Chronicle is reporting today that Alan Shearer has been invited to a meeting, on Friday, with the current Newcastle owner and Derek Llambias, to bring him up to date with the sale situation.
This will be the first time that Shearer has been briefed by senior club officials for over three weeks, when talks on his future ended unresolved, and since that time, nothing much has happened and the club has not had a manager since the last day of the season.
It appears that Friday is the day when those consortia bidding for Newcastle, will show their hand and formally bid for the club, and we guess that after that, Keith Harris will recommend a buyer to Mike Ashley.
It could be significant, that the Newcastle club secretary Lee Charnley has already travelled down to London to keep a close check on progress on the selling front.
We may even see the new owner unveiled on Friday, and maybe Alan will then get a chance to meet with them, and talk about their plans for the future of Newcastle United.
We are being told that once the owners are in, they will appoint Alan as manager, but before that they will need to discuss some things on the road ahead for the club.
Sounds good to us, and let’s hope progress will continue to accelerate this week.
Comments welcome.

I do think the club will be sold, but don’t think it will be anytime soon, and when it is, I can see the transaction being riddled with hinderences.

I hope that it is finally comeing together now, I havent been worried about big Als patience as i think he has been kept up to speed with ongoing events and I think he knows himself that whoever buys the club wants to be seen as the one who appoints Al. they wouldnt want to have mixed messages that Ma appointed him when it is there choice think about it the new owners unveil big Al and straight away they will have huge support. my guess is we will see the return of our FFFS
17 waddler // Jun 24, 2009 at 4:09 PM
That looks about right ED,
l was hoping Shearer doesn’t need to wait for due diligence and can get on with the job over the weekend, although he seems to have been doing his stuff in the background.
Lets hope the players named are also at least the sort he is after, no more journeymen or star players and Shearer builds for the future around youth and commitment allied to the home grown kids.
18 Whumpie // Jun 24, 2009 at 4:10 PM
magforlife – must admit I’m enjoying seeing our ‘stars’ being linked with these clubs. No offence to the clubs, mind – but if we think we’re having a culture shock, imagine what it’s like to be earning £110k this week and nowt next, having turned down a contract extension in January?
Ha. Schadenfreud + moral justice = big grin.
19 Whumpie // Jun 24, 2009 at 4:17 PM
Ed – the one hypothesis you’ve never run with on this site despite (at least to me) it seeming like a very likely explanation, is this:
Why would Shearer sign up to a new job until he knows the terms, his bosses, the structure, the budget and so on?
I think he’s been kept up to speed, allowed to do the job ‘unofficially’ and is patiently waiting to be appointed by the new bosses – provided they give him a reasonable set of circumstances to work in. Nobody can give him that until we know who the owners are, so why are we surprised to still be waiting?
Add to that the huge wall of secrecy that Seymore Pierce have (rightly) put in place, plus Ashley’s awesome talent for non-communication, and you have….
exactly what we’ve got. And a load of Toons producing conspiracy theories and doomsday scenarios out of thin air.
Shearer ain’t daft, and I firmly believe that is why we’re still waiting.
20 Toon Graeme // Jun 24, 2009 at 4:20 PM
Whumpie – ive always advocated that something is happening with AS behind closed doors so I agree with what you think.

A message to Michael Owen, from the fans of Newcastle United: (thanks to nufc.com)
Feel free to take your gissa job brochure, your helicopter, your equine fixation and your miserable face to anywhere daft enough to employ you. We’re already looking forward to your duet on the KC Stadium pitch with Phil Brown…
Don’t think that this criticism has anything to do with your fading talents as a footballer though – no, our beef with you remains the four years-worth of utter contempt shown to the people who bought the shirts, seats and subscriptions that funded your lavish lifestyle.
At least people like Joey Barton go through the motions of badge-kissing and patronising the punters. You couldn’t even be bothered to do that, spending your time on Tyneside with a face like a smacked arse, interspersed with brief interludes of sucking lemons.
Your skin may be thick but it’ll never be as thick as your wallet. Don’t feel bad about us though – we’d have only blown the tens of millions of pounds that went into your offshore accounts on other ungrateful pillocks.
No shame, no guts, no soul, but a bulging portfolio. Role model? my arse. You put the con in Icon.
23 Whumpie // Jun 24, 2009 at 4:36 PM

25 DJM TOON // Jun 24, 2009 at 4:55 PM
as far as we’re aware, the race for ownership is still between 4 parties, irregardless if they all want shearer at the helm, i’m sure each one will have a different package to offer shearer… it would be stupid to do anything or say anything until completion of the deal.
and the deal will happen and shearer will be in place. the only reason shearer hasn’t said anything is all down to that one point. if it wasnt the case he’d be giving us his tuppence worth
26 Micky Toon // Jun 24, 2009 at 4:59 PM
I think you are showing those clubs a lot of disrespect. Why wouldn’t players sign for them? They are PL after all. We are just Championship. We are second tier, like it or not and clubs like Hull and Stoke achieved more last year than we did. They were more successful than us. They actually showed more ambition than us as a club.
Pull your head out of the sand and realise that they are a bigger draw than us at the moment. Wolves, Birmingham and Burnley will also be chosen over us at the moment. It’s not about history, it’s about being in the top league for the majority of players and if that means playing for a so called smaller club then so be it.
Just who was this london source? A travel agent that had a booking for Alan Shearer on a flight to London? Shearer may be travelling to London to sign his new MOTD pundits contract. Ever think about that? Or do we all just believe what we want to believe?

Chris, when you wake up, Chris Houghten will be full time manager and his first signing will be Teddy Sheringham…
We’ve also judged named Ameobi captain because of his inspirational qualities and charisma being similar to Michael Owen and given him a ten year contract.
We’ve also signed Luke Chadwich because he is going to model our new away kit to try increase sales.
31 magforlife // Jun 24, 2009 at 5:29 PM
Micky Toon, no disrespect is intended to Hull or Stoke but our so called stars reveled in top billing with wages to go with it but coasted along in first gear instead of giving the fans value for money. Its easy for them to think, oh well, the clubs relegated i will just go to another big outfit cos ive played for England blaa blaa blaaa. As has been pointed so well by Supermac in the Chron, its the players that got us relegated, end of story. The fact is, other top clubs were also watching these players going through the motions and wont touch them with a barge pole, they will get their arses kicked big style at clubs like Stoke and Hull who wont put up with it.

Pie in the sky hope of course, but wouldn’t it be nice to see Friday come with an announcement of:
New Owner
New Manager: Alan Shearer
Alan’s First Signing.

Another day another Jackanory! I hope it’s true but i’ve given up any hope of good news. I think all newcastle fans interested in playing for club should go up to benton on wed once pre season starts coz at this rate we will have no players returning. No manager in place & no hope of doing anything in the championship ,so why not? Lets have a squad of fans that will play for nowt! Ed i admire your attempts to turn our frowns upside down but Mike Ashley has PISSED me off far too much to give a crap anymore. Difficult to tell if the opening two paragraphs from tomorrow’s Daily Star Owen story are meant as a sarcastic joke against us or him…
….”Stoke have joined Hull as the top two clubs who are trying to lure fallen star Michael Owen.
The ex-England striker wants to move to a big Premier League club after quitting relegated Newcastle.”
http://www.dailystar.co.uk/football/view/86291/Stoke-going-for-Owen/
(full story)
…it’s quite a sickening assortment of words really. If I’d read that in my crystal ball 10 months ago I’d have assumed I was in a parallel universe.
The club is currently a black and white carcass being stripped of it’s flesh. Hopefully the megacorporation ‘Omni Consumer Products’ have already given us their backing, and are about to start re-building us as a rampaging RoboToon.

THIS MEETING IS NOT HAPPENING……
ALAN Shearer will not be attending a meeting with Newcastle owner Mike Ashley in London today and United’s manager-in-waiting fears he will not be able to take control of the team for the start of pre-season training. Jun 26 2009
Shearer has never had any intention of travelling to the capital to discuss matters with Newcastle’s want-away owner and no meeting was planned for the end of the week as Seymour Pierce continue to negotiate with a number of groups who have shown genuine interest in buying the club
