More good news from the Evening Chronicle today, regarding Alan Shearer’s future at Newcastle United.
Alan Shearer – important meeting on Friday in London
Sources in London have confirmed to the Evening Chronicle today some big move on Ashley’s attempt to sell the club will come on Friday.
The Evening Chronicle is reporting today that Alan Shearer has been invited to a meeting, on Friday, with the current Newcastle owner and Derek Llambias, to bring him up to date with the sale situation.
This will be the first time that Shearer has been briefed by senior club officials for over three weeks, when talks on his future ended unresolved, and since that time, nothing much has happened and the club has not had a manager since the last day of the season.
It appears that Friday is the day when those consortia bidding for Newcastle, will show their hand and formally bid for the club, and we guess that after that, Keith Harris will recommend a buyer to Mike Ashley.
It could be significant, that the Newcastle club secretary Lee Charnley has already travelled down to London to keep a close check on progress on the selling front.
We may even see the new owner unveiled on Friday, and maybe Alan will then get a chance to meet with them, and talk about their plans for the future of Newcastle United.
We are being told that once the owners are in, they will appoint Alan as manager, but before that they will need to discuss some things on the road ahead for the club.
Sounds good to us, and let’s hope progress will continue to accelerate this week.
Comments welcome.

Comment #81Seriously, I’m SO proud of my country right now. We stepped up on the international stage and SHINED. I mean, our back four were incredible today. Absolute class. And I HAVE to hand it to Jozy Altidore and Clint Dempsey. Those were two amazing goals!! Thanks for all the support from y’all English lads 🙂
With any luck, we could well see Landon Donovan and maybe a few others dressed up as bananas on the pitch:) Here’s to hoping!!

Believe it or not, there’s a large contingency of people referring to the sport as “football” over here now. Thank God. Imagine that- a game played entirely with the feet and calling it “football”. lol

Comment #83It’s not just that, O’Hurley, it’s that the game that’s played almost entirely with the hands is referred to as “football” over there lol

Comment #85So the next logical choice must be football?
Basketball isn’t named throwball or handball, is it?

Nope, basketball is basketball. Why our version of Rugby is called “football” seriously blows my mind. Personally, I refer to football as football. The other, I call American football. Pisses my buddies off, lol!!

Comment #89I posted this late last night, but am so pleased with myself that I am posting it again:
There was a young man called Shearer
Who as a manager we hope is nearer
We are now on a downer
Without any owner
However, hopefully things will soon be clearer.
Maybe we could have a Limerick competition to best describe the current plight of the club and all that has gone over the last few years? A bit of light entertainment.

Comment #92They’ve been saying that ‘there will be a big announcement in the next few days’ for the last 4 weeks.
My advice, don’t hold your breath.

Comment #94Difficult to tell if the opening two paragraphs from tomorrow’s Daily Star Owen story are meant as a sarcastic joke against us or him…
….”Stoke have joined Hull as the top two clubs who are trying to lure fallen star Michael Owen.
The ex-England striker wants to move to a big Premier League club after quitting relegated Newcastle.”
http://www.dailystar.co.uk/football/view/86291/Stoke-going-for-Owen/
(full story)
…it’s quite a sickening assortment of words really. If I’d read that in my crystal ball 10 months ago I’d have assumed I was in a parallel universe.
The club is currently a black and white carcass being stripped of it’s flesh. Hopefully the megacorporation ‘Omni Consumer Products’ have already given us their backing, and are about to start re-building us as a rampaging RoboToon.

…..hahahahaha

…errr, the second paragraph tells me maybe they’d not be our most ideal owners (if they’re not already) 🙂

Comment #97THIS MEETING IS NOT HAPPENING……
ALAN Shearer will not be attending a meeting with Newcastle owner Mike Ashley in London today and United’s manager-in-waiting fears he will not be able to take control of the team for the start of pre-season training. Jun 26 2009
Shearer has never had any intention of travelling to the capital to discuss matters with Newcastle’s want-away owner and no meeting was planned for the end of the week as Seymour Pierce continue to negotiate with a number of groups who have shown genuine interest in buying the club
