It shows the state the Newcastle club are in, when even our own players have no idea what’s going on.
Fabricio Coloccini – haven’t heard from Newcastle – about anything
Today we hear that Fabricio Coloccini’s agent, Marcelo Lombilla, has demanded talks with Newcastle to clarify the Argentinian’s future at the club, or should we say his future in general.
Apparently there has been no contact from Newcastle with Lombilla at all, and it’s not surprising the agent wants to understand what the status is for his player. His job will be to fix Coloccini up with a new club as soon as possible.
We would have expected First Agents, who were brought in to sell some of Newcastle’s highly paid players, to have been in contact with the agents of the 9 players who are the highest priority to leave the club in the summer.
Marcelo said today:
“For weeks now, I only hear silence from Newcastle,”
“After the relegation, the directors seemed to decide to sell Fabricio. But I have heard no more details.”
“Now, without more information, the chances to sell him look negative.”
Lombilla does not know what fee Newcastle want for a player who cost the club around £10M from Deportivo La Coruna last August, and he has turned out to be less than successful last season, although to be fair to Fabricio he did have some strong games last season, just not enough of them.
And even though Sevilla, Real Zaragoza, Fiorentina and Lazio are all keen, a big-money deal looks unlikely, and it may be that Newcastle best option is to send the player off on a season-long loan deal, as long as his wages are off Newcastle’s books at least for next season.
On Zaragoza’s interest, Lombilla warned:
“I have spoken with them, but without knowing Newcastle’s position, it’s nearly impossible to do a deal.”
The word is that Zaragoza, Fiorentina and Lazio would prefer to take Coloccini on a one-season loan with an option to buy, and we think that would be acceptable to Newcastle.
As long as the Argentinian would be off the wage bill, although a fee is generally agreed up front for the player before he is sent off on a loan deal.
Sevilla are said to be prepared to make a cash bid, but are unlikely to offer more than £4M, and since we paid £10M for this player less than 12 months ago, he’s surely worth more than that amount, and if we need to send Fabricio out on loan for a year first, then so be it.
One word about our story this morning on the London meeting between Shearer, Ashley and Llambias, which was reported to be taking place last Wednesda,y but was then said today not to be taking place this morning – we did get contacted earlier today by Neil Farrington.
Neil told us the story was not made up, and in fact the sources he used for the story were usually very reliable. We have to think when the story was published the meeting was on, but for whatever reason was called off subsequently, because of negotiations ongoing at Seymour Pierce Bank.
We know these deals are hard to predict as to how long they will go 0n, and we understand at least two consortia have already put solid bids in for the Tyneside club.
One way of looking positively at these happenings, is that things are said to be now moving quickly on the sale, and it may still be that we get an announcement on the new owners soon – we really hope so anyway.
It would be very good if Alan is in charge when the players return next Wednesday, although it’s no fault of Chris Hughton’s that he may be put in the oven at Newcastle once again by owner Mike Ashley.
It will be another difficult position for Chris to be put in, but he’ll get the job done, until Alan is appointed, we’re sure of that.
The irony of all this is that Chris may not have a coaching job at the club, once Alan is appointed and he brings his own people in.
We’d like to see Chris stay on at Newcastle, if at all possible, but that will be up to Alan Shearer.
Comments welcome.

Comment #8So it appears that even First Agents haven’t been pitching the players – what sort of brief have they had…. or have they even had one?
Got to say, sadly, that as each day passes and more examples of rank mismanagement become apparent, the less surprised I am.
Given the saga, what chance the locally staged play (you could write a book about it?) hits the west end and Broadway (nah, New York not Whitley Bay!)

Comment #15MICHAEL Jackson, the King of Pop, shocked the world last night by dying in an incredibly ordinary way.
You can finally admit to knowing all the words again His millions of fans were stunned after the singer died of a very normal heart attack instead of electrocuting himself while re-enacting scenes from The Wizard of Oz with a cast of under-age giraffes.
The heart, Jackson’s last original body part, was due to perform in London next month where it was expected to pump blood to a pair of new legs, a borrowed arm and the 14th version of the singer’s face.
In Los Angeles, as preparations began for the funeral, a spokesman for the Jackson family said: “While we want to respect Michael’s wishes we may have to abandon his desire to have the coffin carried by eight chimpanzees. I don’t think he really thought that through.”
But it is understood Jackson will be buried in his favourite Peter Pan costume in a bid to ensure that his last journey is as weird and freaky as possible.
Uri Geller, Jackson’s friend and now acting King of the Freaks, said: “I feel so desperately sorry for all the freaks today. He was their Diana, their Elvis, their Mother Theresa and their Jade Goody all rolled into one. Which is actually what he looked like too. Check out this spoon.”
In Hollywood dozens of other stars paid their tributes, describing him as a genius, an inspiration and the sort of very close friend you did not need to have your picture taken with.
Later today thousands of fans are expected to gather outside Neverland, the singer’s former home and shout ‘ee-hee’ in unison, while in London, tabloid newspaper editors are bidding over a grainy image, supposedly taken this morning, showing Jackson still very much alive and part of a travelling band of Bulgarian circus folk.
Meanwhile at Madame Tussauds wax museum, security guards are standing by to prevent visitors poking the Michael Jackson statue amid rumours the singer had finally found the perfect hiding place.
On the internet, chat forums were awash with Jackson tributes from people who were convinced he was a pervert and wanted him strung up, but who were now desperate to tell the world that he was a victim of the media and that Thriller was a ground-breaking work of genius.
Jen, from Milwaukee, wrote: “As you said Michael, Billie Jean was not your lover and neither was Macaulay Culkin, regardless of what I may or may not have written on my blog four years ago. I hope you find peace in freak heaven.”
Pete, from London, said: “The way you danced like a zombie changed the way people thought about dancing like a zombie forever. Rest in Pop.”
And Sam, from Rio de Janeiro, added: “You were my heart. I love you sing. You make special times but now you in heaven with all the children. Try not feel them up. God can see your hands now.”
