The Newcastle United Supporters Club (NUSC) have today come out with a statement asking Newcastle fans to unite behind Alan Shearer as the new manager of the Tyneside club.
The statement issued by the NUSC is as follows:
=====================
Unite behind Shearer: fans groups band together to call for Shearer
Toon supporters today called for the ‘immediate appointment of Alan Shearer as club manager’ to send the right message to supporters and potential buyers of the club.
Newcastle United Supporters Club have been joined by the Mag, the biggest selling football fanzine in the region, NUFC.com, the ‘unofficial club website’ that attracts thousands of hits daily, contributors from True Faith fanzine and the official Newcastle United Supporters Panel in a bid to break the deadlock in appointing the geordie legend Shearer.
Colin Whittle from NUSC said:
‘The time has come to show the outside world that the supporters of Newcastle United are ready to move on and get behind the club. We believe that the appointment of Alan Shearer would send out a massive signal to potential buyers and most importantly, the fans who have so far been ignored’.
Mark Jensen from the Mag said:
‘Its a ‘no-brainer’, the fans want Shearer and any future owners would be mad not to see Alan’s potential. By coming together, as representatives of various sections of the fan base we believe that it will send a powerful message of unity that will be picked up by potential owners’.
Steve Hastie who contributes to True Faith and is also on the Supporters Panel said:
‘The fans need to get resolution to this long running saga. It was particularly encouraging to hear potential owners talk about official fans involvement in the club, not as a token but a true partner’.
=====================
We think this will have no effect on Mike Ashley, since he’s a lost cause, but it will communicate the strong feelings of the fans, to have Alan Shearer as manager, and quickly.
Time is running out before the new season begins, and it seems the lads have just had enough of the complete mess made by the current owner, and are unwilling for him to take the club down any further.
We all have to hope this action has some positive impact and quickly.
Comments welcome.

Comment #1Don’t think this would really help, but at least someone is doing something now. Hopefully Sharear can be manager. And I think that will be this Sunday…

Comment #3The new owners should be able to pick whoever they want without being backed into a corner by the fans.
If Shearer turns out to be a sh1te manager it will be the same fans chanting “sack the board” for appointing him.

Comment #4I cant see this will make any difference to MAs ideas. I still think if the sale is advanced the potental owners will insist that no appointment should be made, As i am certain that would want to be the ones to unvail AS as manager

Comment #5Waste of time. If there’s one thing the fat cockney has demonstrated since he bought the club – it is complete and utter contempt for the fans. He couldn’t give a toss what the fans think….

Good point, big dave.
Instant brownie points with the fans for that and they can say they appointed the right man for the job, not Ashley.

Comment #10I don’t understand it when people say Sheff Utd, West Brom etc. will challenge Newcastle for the Championship. I can’t see us challenging for automatic places the way things are going.

Comment #13Maybe this can pressure the bidders to step things up a bit and save their future investment. I don’t care who comes out ahead, let’s just get something done PLEASE! It’s about time some movement happened out of the NUSC. I wonder what they’ll do other than make this media announcement.

Comment #14I wouldn’t know, personally I think the teams full of over-paid waste of spaces. They lacked fight for Prem so I cant see them doing much better down Championship. Martins is worse than Bellamy at 1 on 1’s, total donkey! I’ve created more in a sarnie than wor midfield did all season.

Comment #15That doesn’t make any sense for the new owners wanting to wait to unveil Shearer as “their” manager. The club is rotting away while they’re waiting to performa PR stunt? That’s one of the stupidest things I’ve ever heard, and if that’s the case then our new owners are apparently as daft as Ashley is.

He said if they agree then they will give him the job, nothing has happened so either they don’t want him or they want to be the one who unveils him in the press conference.

Comment #24AndyT // @15 That’s one of the stupidest things I’ve ever heard.” for all we know AS could be sorting things behind the scenes as he is on the payroll untill 30th june, which funny enough is the date kieth harris has quoted as being a possible date for the club being sold. if MA makes it known that AS is manager will that would leave the new owners with the unanswerable question, Was AS their 1st choice as manager. So I cant see that being one of the stupidest things you’ve ever heard but then maybe it is

Comment #25Rangerman, that press conference idea would seriously just piss everybody off. I really don’t think any prospective owners would even think about bringing in anybody else but Shearer right now. Who else could we get that would be able to immediately do a better job? Nobody.
GAH! There’s got to be some weird problems with establishing a contract or SOMETHING! I’m really hating this.

Comment #26I’m pretty sure that AS was only on the books up to the Monday after the last game. ALthough I could be wrong. If he were actually in charge right now and getting paid for it, we would have sold AT LEAST 3 players by now.

Comment #27I think theres definitly other managers as good as Shearer, and would do a good job immediatly…..But all the fans want Shearer and it wouldn’t go to well to follow in MA’s footsteps and upset the fans.

Comment #30hitman take one possibility FFS buys the club with or without an arabs 60%,I for 1 am not against FFS comeing back but there is plenty that would be against him so if he unveils AS beside him that will please the detractors and take loads of pressure of him

We need a manager that is going to turn team around.

Comment #33Exactly GatesheadMag. There’s really no other option for them at the moment. If they appointed somebody else they would be immediately perceived as working against the fans. Something they definitely would not want to do.

Comment #37I’m in full agreement that there’s other managers out there, but right now, after all this hell we’ve been through and the expectancy revolving around Shearer, it would be at least a bit unsettling for Toon fans in general. That’s my thought at least.
If another manager came in, it would probably help to have Shearer’s blessing maybe???

Comment #38Maybe.. But as people have said on here before, once Shearers had a crack of the whip, it will make it easier for managers that follow. As you won’t have the try Shearer as manager pressure…… Although I hope that after Shearer it will be something like 20yrs.
Yes I know 20yrs.. wishful thinking

Comment #39Complete waste of time this so called campaign/protest to get Shearer appointed. That’s really going to fill any potential owners with confidence witnessing another flex of the fans muscles and demnading someone be appointed. I wish some of these people would get a grip

Comment #40Sorry Ed but I don’t know how you can write stories and speculate whats happening at Newcastle when nothings been said for a while. Not just you but other websites and English press. Good well thought of articles though.
