Newcastle fans would have hoped the soap opera at Newcastle, well the latest one, would have been finished and over, before the players returned to pre-season training yesterday.

Alan Shearer - continues to wait in the wings
But it was not be to be, as the club continues to look completely at sea, and the sale of the club continues to drag on at a very slow pace, with really no date when the sale will be complete, other then to say we hope it’s next week.
Everything at the club has been put in a state of abeyance by Mike Ashley, until the sale takes place, so we have no manager, we have sold no players and we have brought in no players since the end of the season last May 24th. That’s a full 39 days, almost 6 weeks, and nothing has been done at all.
Not good.
And we cannot imagine many supporters have signed up for season tickets., and how can the club expect that, when the fans don’t know who will be owning the club and who will be managing the club,. and what the first team squad will look like.
Apart from that everything is in place for next season.
The future of the Tyneside club is in the hands of Seymour Pierce, with senior investment banker Tom Sheldon dealing with the sale of the club while Llambias and Mike Ashley wait for some bona fide bids coming in.
The most recent news suggest bids were due in yesterday, but there is very little solid news on what’s really happening with the sale.
And things are not much different for Alan Shearer as he waits to hear something about the sale of the club, and what his future involvement may be.
A source close to Alan said today:
“It’s a case of as you were for Alan and nothing has changed.”
“He is just waiting for developments like the rest of the fans.”
We wait and hope, just like we’ve done for the last 6 weeks or so.
Comments welcome.

I thought Ed was holidaying back in the north east? With luck he will be at St James when Alan is paraded and the explosives have been put under the Sport Direct sign. Hey Ed – will you light the fuse?

Anybody interested….
http://www.nufcblog.org – was originally intended to give us somewhere else when Ed shut down. Then he did a u-turn but worky decided to go with it anyway. I’m sure Ed won’t mind me suggesting it could be a temporary home while he’s away. Unless Neil is doing it or he has random articles scheduled to publish in advance?
Have a good holiday Ed.
When is he away/when are you away Ed?

I was under the impression that Keith Harris was handling all negotiations concerning the sale of the club. Is Tom Sheldon a Harris underling?
Anyway-Harris or Sheldon or both will eventually give the bid or bids to Ashley-here’s hoping it’s VERY soon. My only nightmare recently tho has been that the bid or bids are presented and Ashley will just say “no” and screw us even more. Mind you, I don’t think this will happen as hopefully any valid bid will be accepted. As I said-here’s hoping.

Ed – just one thing in the article I’d take issue with is this statement: “nothing has been done at all”.
I think the opposite. I think a hell of a lot his happening… not particularly effectively, perhaps… and it’s just the usual lack of communication that’s the real problem.
I still think the sale is probably progressing very quickly by the usual standards for such things, and that player movements are also being planned, ready for signatures.
But my confidence in it all coming to fruition in time is diminishing rapidly as we pass major milestones like returning to training with no outward sign of progress.
Ashley is playing a ridiculously risky game. What if he gets no viable bids? The longer things take, the more likely bidders are to decide the club’s beyond help and pull out. He’s then stuck with a club which is quite likely to go further down, and possibly into administration. At that point it’s worth £1 and he’s blown another £100m.
But then… what else can he do? He can’t start hiring or firing people (managers or players) and just hope the new buyer agrees with choices.
Nice bed he’s made for himself. At least we can be fairly sure he’s having a really rough time of it right now.
