Malaysian Consortium May Have Bid £80M

July 4th, 2009 by Neil Harrison · 66 Comments

There is news today that the Malaysian consortium that toured Newcastle’s facility have bid £80M.  This obviously is less than the £100M that has been bantered about since the club was put up for sale over a month ago.

Ashley and Llambias – Just sell and let us be

We can only hope this will come to fruition and end Newcastle’s stint in Football Purgatory. However, we probably know better as this saga is still likely to drag on well into July. Hopefully this bid is true and will be accepted by Ashley, though he most definitely will stall if he feels he can get his full asking price.

For the sake of the club, Shearer must be appointed soon so our stay in the Championship is only for one season. Unfortunately, this seems only likely with the full sale of the club. With our youngsters and the likelihood that we could keep a few of our more committed first team players, we should have a team fit to challenge for promotion. But the more time we flutter on this wayward path, the less likely it is that we will be prepared for the upcoming season.

I will not be posting an article on Owen’s deal with Manchester United as I am a bit disappointed that my hopes of him ending up at Hull to be relegated in consecutive seasons did not materialize.

Never give up hope, Neil – as Mikey Owen proved last season – he has the power to relegate ANYBODY.

Now let’s get this deal done and go ahead and collect the highest number of points in fizzy pop history.

Roddick had a good record against Murray?

Murray had won 6 out of 8! Nice to know form is important in Tennis as it is Racing.

  • 29 Chris G // Jul 4, 2009 at 9:31 AM

Just wondering, lads, someone posted a rumour on here yesterday that Air Asia might be involved in this – could that be who these people are?

I had always assumed that the ‘Malaysian’ interest was the Profitable Group, but I think I’m right in saying that they’re based in Singapore, not Malaysia, while Air Asia are based in Kuala Lumpur, so I guess it’s possible the rumour could be true

Has anyone else heard anything about this, or is it just more idle speculation?

  • 30 Toon Graeme // Jul 4, 2009 at 9:36 AM

Morning lads – stuck at work – yawn big style.

Bids in for Oba and Collo in Journal and again note of BArton to Birmingham on loan.

Kinnear is full of sh*t!!!!!!! However Ive got to say watching on ssn yesterday he looks well – compared to when he was last seen up here. Ive always wished him well with his bad health but even now the crap and contradiction flows out his gob!

Looks like we are in the end game, reports are filtering out that Players are about to move out to clear part of the bank overdraft and the ones talked about are not on Shearer’s retained list which looks as though he is in the loop with the new buyer and Harris.
Although Kinnear is back in the news, saying he would love to manage us if a deal fell through, this I think is Ashley’s attempt to force a bidding war.
Ananda Krishnan has been linked with us as the Malaysian bidder and his business empire covers telephony and tv, he owns or part owns Astro a satellite company who have expanded due to another of his company’s putting 3 satellites into space over the Asian sub-continent so purchasing Newcastle United could spearhead his new sports channels in the region.
They are football mad, like ourselves in the region and you can see merchandising of shirts and Newcastle United tours of the area would be highly profitable for Mr Krishnan.
Can people see the difference in potential in comparison with Shepherds interest, we will be a global commodity and crucial to satellite penetration in the area so we would have to be competing in the upper echelons of the premiership.
Very exiting times may be just around the corner, fingers crossed, please don’t ball’s this one up Harris and Ashley.

  • 33 Solaidback // Jul 4, 2009 at 9:55 AM

What I’m confused about is, didn’t the crap-loids say that 2 consortia had bid £80m well over 4 weeks ago?? so how come that figure is being bantered about yet again??

We have no idea how much anyone has bid as they’ve all sign a non-disclosure agreement, so it’s all just speculation, not FACT!!!

  • 34 Toon Graeme // Jul 4, 2009 at 9:58 AM

    Waddler:

“Very exiting times may be just around the corner, fingers crossed, please don’t ball’s this one up Harris and Ashley”

Aye we can only hope they dont. For some reason I am expecting a final sting from Ashley – dont know what and why.

Im on countdown to the season now.

  • 35 belfast toon // Jul 4, 2009 at 9:59 AM

Hope you right waddlerwere still one of the g16 so their is no reason why we shouldn’t be an international brand

  • 36 Chris G // Jul 4, 2009 at 10:05 AM

‘….Ananda Krishnan has been linked with us as the Malaysian bidder’

I think that was just a bit of wishful thinking on Ed’s part. I didn’t read anything in his article that suggested that Ananda Krishnan was even the slightest bit interested in owning a football club. Yes, he has a lot of business interests, but I suspect that football isn’t one of them

Mind you, I’d be happy to be proved wrong ;)

It’s nice to see some activity, lets hope this is sorted for monday, or the end of the week at the most.

Does anyone know if he signed a pay as you play with Man U

  • 40 nimo // Jul 4, 2009 at 11:09 AM

read somewhere it was gonna be 20k a week basic and could be made up to 100k with bonuses

  • 41 Toon Graeme // Jul 4, 2009 at 11:10 AM

I see Kinnear has given the ‘come and get me mike and derrick’ call – if he is needed again as interim.

Just been reading all MO stories and it still gets me how everyone is backing him to shine with Fergies boys.

Annoying thing is the fact he probably will find form and if he doesnt then it will be on our shoulders to grin like cheshire cats.

Howay cashley – bank a cheque and do one out of town and dont forget to renew your spurs season ticket.

  • 53 magforlife // Jul 4, 2009 at 12:39 PM

I could vomit reading the press this morning, after hammering him for the past 4 seasons, Owen is now a very good player and an excellent signing, what a load of pap. When we tried to sign Rooney, the headline would have been TOON SIGN GRANNY SH***ER, but when he didnt it was UNITED SIGN STARLET. And its also our fault for not giving him any goal chances? I think not, he was as bad as Martins and Ameobi in front of goal all missing chance after chance.

I honestly think he will find form and that would boil my toon pi$$ to evapouration!

Deep down I wish he fails on the pitch to prove all that is written correct or it will just prove he was sitting on his pay cheque and ripping it out of us all.

the lads a parasite and i hope somebody breaks his legs.

Sorry if you lads think im been harsh but the lad did nowt for us except cost us a fortune and we didnt even get a thanks or the slightest mention, Even after all the support we gave him.

OWEN is a disgrace and im just gutted that he wore the famous Black & White stripes of the Toon and gave us nothing.

harsh, harsh but fair looney, hopefully will be edgar or bassong

  • 61 chuck // Jul 4, 2009 at 2:59 PM

Being the Malasian group have initiated a reported £80m bid, plus take on the £40m working capital loan, it seems that as many as five bidders are now in the running.
Perhaps a bidding war may break out, which may not in fact be something desirable for the club, although it would certainly benefit MA.
It would be interesting to know the identities of those involved, so we could post our druthers, but hey!
Guess we all should be happy just to know the present owner is on his way.
In retrospect we should send MA a thank you note,
Why ? he has probably saved the club from collapse, his paying off of the massive debt, which has cost him big time, he has also stacked the youth system with young talent, etc.
Once we unload the overpaid flops, the club will begin to look like a pretty good investment for the incoming buyer, especially if they can rebound to the PL in one season.

btw, it isnt a group as mentioned as Ananda himself the owner of big companies in malaysia, he alone should be able to make any decisions. also mentioned Alan Shearer will manage the club and ananda promised to use his resources to make sure NU will play on premier league again
