We find it just a little strange that former Newcastle United manager Joe Kinnear has come out today to say he is refusing to rule out making a return to St James’ Park. Why?

Joe Kinnear – fit again – but to come back to Newcastle?
Why come out when it looks like Mike Ashley has almost sold the club, and say you have not ruled out returning to the Newcastle club?
It just seems very strange to us and we wonder if there’s something more behind it. The timing seems very strange.
We are of course happy that Joe is back and we believe that if he hadn’t had his unfortunate heart problems we would have still been in the Premier League, we’re convinced of that. Of course we’ll never really know what would have happened.
Kinnear was in charge of Newcastle for 26 games last season after being appointed in an interim role following Kevin Keegan’s initial departure as manager.
Juts when it looked like Joe was fit to return to manager Newcastle in the run-in Mike Ashley, out of the blue, replaced Joe with Alan Shearer but it didn’t work, and we were relegated.
We can only assume that Joe was told by doctors it would be dangerous to have returned in early April, and that has to have been a sound decision, since he would have had to have jumped right back into tremendous stress.
Joe has now thankfully been given the green light by doctors to return to the game, and he has refused to to rule coming back to Newcastle, as he told Sky Sports:
“I’ve gone from bad to being much, much better than I was. I’ve got the all-clear.”
“I love the game. I’m desperate to get back into it. It just depends where and when. I just hope it happens sooner than later.” ”My contract was up at the end of the season. Mike knows I’m still available,”
“I spoke to Mike last week. He told me he has people very much interested in it and maybe the decision for me to go back there is away from him, because obviously new owners might come in.”
“Obviously if they don’t and they haven’t got anybody else I thoroughly enjoyed my time when I was up there. I thought I did well up there. I enjoyed it. I enjoyed the people. I enjoyed the team.”
“If it does come, with the same scenario as last season, then I’m ready for the right.”
We think Joe would love to get back into the game, and from what he showed at Newcastle he can still get the players to play for him. But we think this is a call from Joe saying he’s available to manage some club again, but surely not the Magpies?
Joe went through a terrible injury crisis at the club, but when we had a full team to choose from, and with Joe in charge, we were more than a match for most teams.
But the lads really lost it this year, when they seemed to just lose interest and they lacked fight and spirit, and that turned out to be catastrophic.
Anyway, the club was relegated and we have to get a new owner and new manager in, before we can get the club back on the road to greatness.
That has to be job one, once all this terrible uncertainty and lack of direction is over at the club – and Mike finally leaves, and can do no more harm.
Comments welcome.

OK, it is Sunday again. Loads of media garbage. I am suspicious of the timing of the announcement about Joe but do not give it much credence. I am more aware of the crap that Micheal Owen is coming out with but, all things considered, are we really surprised? Owen has gone which cuts the wage bill and gives NUFC the way clear to get more loyal players in who will develop under Shearer I hope.

All the press re Owen just shows what a money grabber he was, but equally how poor FFS was at contract writing

Kinnear won 4 matches out of 26 and to listen to him you would think he was Mourinho, Fergie and Ancelotti rolled in to one. I remember very well his last game at home against Liverpool, the day Shay cracked, oh yes we had really turned the corner – NOT!!
Apart from being a foul mouthed oaf with no class and a total PR media embarrassment ( we already have Barton and Ashley for that), his tactics were poor, extremely negative, playing long ball, offsides and trying to kick people ( we already had Allardyce for that. )
Basically Joe had no plan B ever, his substitutions were appalling, he never devoloped any youth and signing Nolan and Taylor summed up his level of mediocrity and lack of flair and vision and creativity. A true dinosaur of a sunday pub team manager who apparently was hardly ever at training.
He didn’t have a heart attack because of working too hard, he was just obese and probably has diabetes and all sorts thanks to a completely unhealthy lifestyle.
From SBR to Kinnear – tragic!!!!!!!!

Kinnear was responsible for the lack of discipline Al complained about. Dream on Joe. I’m glad you’re well and even gladder you’re gone.

Am I the only one who thinks the 26 games Joe was in charge are the reason behind the relagation.
Fair enough having no manager for loads of games hurt as well but if the Toon weren’t already in the bottom few when he took ill it would still be a PL club.

According to NUFC.com, JFK was only in charge of us for 20 games, not 26 – he Won 5, Drew 8, Lost 7!!!
Shearer on the other hand Played 8, Won 1, Drew 2, Lost 5 … but after the apparent lack of any sort of disapline & real training, I’m not surprised Shearer couldn’t get the lazy gits off their arses to play for him!!!
As for the supposed other 6 games, it was actually 7 & Houghton was in charge for those, his record is Played 7, Won 0, Drew 2, Lost 5!!!!

Bit harsh, The thing is despite his flaws he is a very genuine and likable guy and gave his absolute all. I don’t blame him at all for our relegation. Sadly he is more in the stone age than Fred Flintstone but who else would have come?
All the best Joe.

Today he said ” My job is support Ashley and Liambias ! ” what the lie !!!

batty,
I think when we were premiership, maybe Houllier if going for an older experienced guy.
If a younger manager , and taking out the shearer factor coz we don’t know which way that could go , I would have liked one of martinez ( now Wigan) or Di Matteo ( now WBA)
