There are reports today in the media of a player’s revolt if the situation at Newcastle isn’t sorted out soon. There are no quotes linked with any players with these reports-just the very suspicious “senior players”.
Last Year’s Training-hopefully this will be the scene all summer
This sounds an awfully lot like the media trying to stir up some panic on Tyneside. The report states that players such as Stephen Taylor and Habib Beye will turn in transfer requests if Alan Shearer is not appointed in two weeks.
This makes no sense because Mike Ashley has already put the brakes on all activity at Newcastle so any transfer requests would hardly be acknowledged by the club while Ashley is in charge. Hopefully this is just the media trying to upset Newcastle fans, or a few players expressing their desperation to have Shearer in charge.
There was talk of a player uprising when Keegan left and Ashley kept all the players in the dark. Other than a few comments from some players nothing really came of it. Then again, that lack of communication may have been the final straw for Shay Given. However, since Ashley is all but assured of leaving, and soon hopefully, this seems to be just nonsense.

Comment #4It is yet again the Chronicle talking shit!
The players will NOT hand in a transfer request as it will cost them a one off loyalty bonus when they leave.
Who was the last player you can remember forgoing their loyalty bonus by handing in a transfer request?
Gareth Barry wouldn’t do it last season and Ronaldo wouldn’t do it at Utd either!

Comment #9SSN is reporting it as well. I have to admit, this is a bit worrying. Hopefully this just puts pressure on Seymour Pearce and all the bidders to then pressure Ashley to just hurry up and make a decision!

Comment #14punk – Didn’t Llambias say that if all potential buyers wanted Shearer they could make an announcement though?
I can’t help but think that this means the serious bidders/frontrunners would have insisted on it for some sort of kickstart to the season. And he would either be in charge or been told thanks but no thanks.
But then surely the players would have got wind of it? Maybe this is Chinese whispers?
Who knows?
A revolt wouldn’t help at the stage.
Possibly nonsense from the papers or the players.
Probably the former.

Comment #17SSN news say that all the groups who have bid want to make the appointment of the new manager.
That would make sense as they get all the credit then.
Ashley won’t be bothered if the club is in turmoil for the start of the season as he won’t be around.

Comment #18How gutted would a player be if he put in a transfer request to try and get Shearer in the job quicker only to find he’s on his ‘to get rid of’ list anyway.
We know why he hasn’t got the job yet and it looks like that could be over soon, so why the players want to rake up more crap for the club?
You would have thought if they won’t Shearer so bad then they would have put in some performances for him at the end of last season.

Why would the players revolt when
1. it was them who relegated the club and
2. they are all on many thousands of pounds a week
It’s another fabricated story to keep us talking ….

Comment #21Sorry lads I said the story about revolting players hit my feed (newsnow newcastle united) at 1224, it was 1232.
Still hope Krishnan buys the journal and chronic as the local gutter press have a lot to answer for in regards to Newcastle United s demise.

Comment #22According to the BBC’s football gossip column on BBC News Sport this story emanated from the Press Association – I had thought them a responsible organisation. Obviously someone is muck raking in the media again. I thought Ashley had put the lot up for sale. If so why ask for a transfer?

Comment #24It would be funny if it wasn’t so tragic. That lot actually showing any sort of spine and being moved to revolt over anything beggars belief!!!!
Quite ironic when we are trying to shift half of them. Maybe now they will realise nobody wants them or their wages.
I really really hope that Mssrs Smith, Barton, Nolan, Butt, Duff and Geremi are so fed up they want to go and be prepared to accept half of what it cost us in wages for them to get relegated.
There’s no shame in any of them though sadly.

Comment #36I’d like to believe the ‘player revolt’ is just more media tripe…Just looked at todays training pics on the official site, all the lads look to be enjoying themselves and keeping their heads down. What evidence have the press got Tayls & Beye are going to put in a TR within 2weeks!!! Utter balls IMO.
Did anyone come to a conclusion as to which consortium FFS could be fronting?? An american, asian/arab, South African or local…?!

Comment #39ToonRich, thats the thing! All the anti FFS mob perhaps dont realise that although he may not be able to bid to buy the club himself, there is a chance he could be installed as chairman by the new owners. What better for foreign (we presume) investors than to have a bloke with local knowledge who knows exactly what the club needs! Im sure thats what his spiel will be to try and get back in :). It may not be a bad thing either, just as long as he is not given free reign with their money, 1 for you, 1 for me!
