We had heard about this news yesterday, that one group of potential Newcastle United owners, want to pair Alan Shearer and Gianluca Vialli together as a management team.

Gianluca Vialli - Director Of Football at Newcastle?
The Far East bidders, who have already bid the asking price for the Toon, are hoping to close a deal with Mike Ashley today, and have decided they want Alan Shearer as manager, which is hardly surprising.
However, there is also news that they want to install Gianluca Vialli as Director of Football, and that’s a surprise, because we know Shearer would want total control of player personnel as manager of the club.
Of course Vialli had a fairly successful stint as Chelsea manager from February 1998 until September 2000, after previously playing for them, but has now been out of the game for seven years.
And good news for Newcastle fans, if it’s true, is that the new owners would immediately make £25M available for player signings. We’ll all have to hope that is true, but at least it’s a good rumor.
Ashley is in advanced talks with a couple of potential buyers, but the identity of the far-east buyers remains a mystery and there have been rumors that the group is in fact based out of Hong Kong.
Only recently Malaysian Billionaire Ananda Krishnan announced he was not behind any bid for the Newcastle club, but we would hope that a deal is made as soon as possible – and even today.
Whether a Director Of Football at Newcastle would be welcomed by Alan Shearer is an open question, because that certainly led to the earthquake between Kevin Keegan and Dennis Wise, which was the start of the demise of the club last September.
We’ll wait and see, but hopefully some good news about the sale will come through today.
Comments welcome.

No, it is made up nonsense. I like many others got a text with it on yesterday. Its been doing the rounds on message boards etc for a few days now…
2 magforlife // Jul 9, 2009 at 7:41 AM
The announcement will come from nowhere, no one has a clue due to the confidentiality agreements, any so called inside information is malicious rubbish and if its Newcastle fans that are spreading it, its not big and its not clever!

Ed why the need for a new thread, why not just carry on from ”Could this be all over”.
It’s been established this was a hoax originally put on TOTT http://www.tottfanzine.co.uk/forums/index.php?showtopic=224
Note the date.
Much as I would like it to be true and even the mirror have picked it up, it’s just a further wind up, probably by the mackems.

Not sure about anything but personally think it would be a good idea for having an owner from the Far East.
Their knowledge in the Far East will help the club to explore the possibilties there and the club will surely be benefited by having a new market and more fans globally.

My mate at work told me that it is all ready a done deal, he knows someone who works with Newcastles finances. He said Martins spiderman colo the clown and smith are already gone. Beckford will be our first signing. I thought this was bull as well but he seems pretty confident. He said it will be annouced today. lets see, if not I will klip him tomorrow for building my hopes up.
9 shrews mag // Jul 9, 2009 at 8:29 AM
The only thing that we know about the prospective owners … is that we all know nothing.
The club did say that everything would be kept confidential, and the bidders have kept to their side of the bargain.
If we were not fans (who are all desperate for news) we would be saying that the whole process was being undertaken very professionally by Seymour Price … but that doesn’t make it any easier.
The best way to do this is to wait and see what happens … patience is a virtue …

I was given similar info to this thread by a reliable source last Friday and it’s still in some of the papers in different form so may not be a total hoax. Who knows what is actually going on?!!! No one by the sounds of it.

Yeah I was sent a text last night from someone allegedley in the know
Buyers from HK, Vialli as DoF, Shearer as manager
85 million for the club plus repayment of 100 million loan to Ashley – expect to write off 40 million overdraft to Barclays over the next two years with 30 million available for transfers – Beckford from Leeds first player in (deal done) and offers received from clubs already for Guiterez, Collocini, Bassong, Smith and Martins
Think that was more or less all of it but I’ve left my phone at home today – leak apparantly is from someone who works in nufc legal dept…….
Meant to be announced today so we shouldnt have long to wait!

15 Ericles // Jul 9, 2009 at 9:19 AM
No way. Media tripe. A hoax. Shearer in total management control with his own backroom staff and his own players is the only way to sustain a determined push for promotion. Smith, Colo, Jonas gone already? If that is the case then why is Bassong claiming Arse and All have made an offer but NUFC have done nothing? Sound a bit fishy even for the North Sea to me!

Rant time! You know whats really really annoying me, the bloody papers making us sound like a laughing stock…AGAIN! There was never anything to say this Malaysian billionaire was buying the club it was people putting their brains to use and thinking “oh hes rich it could be him” which is bound to happen! papers come out “BILLIONAIRE PULLS OUT” “ASHLEY LOSES ANOTHER BIDDER” which is absolute balls!!! Since when have we lost a bidder? 2 companies from Malaysia have come out and said they were never interested…..aka they were never in the running….so how have we lost them?
It has been confirmed we have 2+ bids over 100mil, no names have been disclosed and everything is being done behind closed doors which is the way it should be! Nothing will get leaked like the Southampton takeover again came from no leads etc! I am getting worried at the time it is taking though, atleast the fire sale hasnt started but even so we dont have masses of time to ship out and ship in! I just hope we have a nice dignified new owner who isnt surrounded by scandal and doesnt sit in the terraces and down pints!
21 Eaststander // Jul 9, 2009 at 9:42 AM
I am starting to think I will have to fill him in. Been looking around and there is nothing but reports rubbishing this story. Its all smoke and mirrors lads.
The only folk who come out of this mess with less credibility than FA are the hacks. Buy a laptop learn how to cut and paste and bingo you too can write for papers.
Some just make stuff up and tap phone lines others copy what everyone else writes – only a very few are true journalists. Shields Gazette does a good job and the odd article by George in the Times stands up. The rest, includig our own local rags – fit only to line the cat litter tray.

The Telegraph are (usually) honest and credible in their stories but I agree with most of the comments on here that we will know nowt till the buyers and the club are ready to tell us. I would think that Shearer does know what is going on as he also is keeping schtum, if he was getting jerked around he would almost certainly have said something. Just be rocks in the stream lads, it will happen!

Yo Ed.
I understand how it feels to see a club like ours slowly go down the drain, due to the unbelievable stupidity of our present owner.
A it`s a case of no news is bad news.
I wonder if he is still paying the PR dept. or does he realize in fact one exists ?
This has to go down in history as the worst possible term of ownership of any football club ever and it has`nt stopped yet.
The man still continues to compound one mistake after another.
We have become the laughing stock of football and rightly so, no way such stupidity can be defended.
The speculation is becoming ridiculess and I have my doubts about the potential owners, for instance we have been told for weeks it`s any day now.
But nothing positive other than more speculation, when does this saga end ?
So, be obliged if you would only Blog about the knowns, not unverified speculation.
The press are doing a pretty good job in that direction and we all could fill tons of space with our own druthers.
Just the facts maam !

Interesting take from Sky transfers updates…..
“11.30 Gianluca Vialli has been the subject of a surprise gamble today to succeed Alan Shearer as Newcastle manager. Sky Bet received a flurry of requests for odds on the Italian taking over at St James’ Park and he is now 4/1 second favourite behind Shearer (2/7) to lead the Magpies into the Championship next month.
Sky Bet’s Helen Jacob said: “This morning, out of the blue, we had a dozen requests for Vialli for Newcastle manager. We didn’t even have him in the betting so quoted 12/1, which was snapped up and he is now down to 4/1 second favourite behind Alan Shearer. We’ll be keeping a close eye on this market today.
“Rumours abound that Vialli may be installed as Director of Football alongside Shearer as manager but punters have been quick to back Vialli for the main job. He’s been out of the game for seven years so it would seem to be an odd appointment but you never know the way things are with Newcastle at the moment.”
54 bowburnmag // Jul 9, 2009 at 1:39 PM
