It seems that all of the commotion and waywardness at Newcastle United has not ruined our chances to capture Jermaine Beckford of Leeds United . . . yet.

Jermaine Beckford-Waiting patiently but for how long
Jermaine Beckford is currently training with his club, League One side Leeds United. However after turning down a deal recently to remain at Elland Road, he is a considered a hot commodity for many Championship sides.
One of those sides that he is continually linked with is our ever star crossed Newcastle United. It seems that Beckford is waiting patiently until Newcastle installs Shearer as manager before making a decision on his future.
Beckford’s agent has been quoted of the link and Newcastle’s stalemate,
“It wouldn’t be true to say that Newcastle have missed out on Jermaine because of what is going on there.
There has been interest from other clubs and I would anticipate something happening soon – maybe in the next couple of weeks when the transfer market begins to start hotting up.
The longer it goes on the less chance they have of getting Jermaine, but it’s not for me to say what is going on at Newcastle. But it is certainly true that Newcastle are still a seriously attractive option for Jermaine.
They are a big club, with a fantastic tradition and history and any player would love to play at St James’s Park. I’m sure he would talk to whoever takes over at Newcastle when it is sorted out.”
From these statements it certainly seems that Beckford is pining to come to Newcastle. He would be a good acquisition for Newcastle and would provide good competition for Andy Carroll and Nile Ranger who will figure prominently for Newcastle next season.
These are the types of players we need to acquire. For Jermaine to put his future on hold and wait out Newcastle shows the type of commitment sorely lacking from many of our players the past few years. For him to show this interest while at Leeds United makes his stance even more impressive for Newcastle fans since Leeds have had a tumultuous time since their relegation from the Premier League.
Like all of us, it seems everyone linked with Newcastle is just going to have wait until something is finalized. Let’s just hope it’s sorted soon and we are still able to acquire a player like Jermaine Beckford.

Players and agents loved Newcastle because we were such a soft touch when it came to transfer fees and wages, when they find out that is no longer the case watch them all change their minds.

he could be the top man next season … the next andy cole perhaps …???
‘the mag’ is right though … let’s see how keen he is when he sees the offer made by the new owners of nufc (and not the thick old one who gave out contracts for silly money … to anyone who could stand upright and kick a ball…)

I dont think I can take much more, when is the fat man gonna put us out of our misery and disappear over the horizon? Houghton is a nice fellow but is proven to be a crap manager. We need the new owners in, ashley, out a permanent manager, be that shearer or someone else (not kinear please) lambias out and mostly the new owners should be willing to invest sensibly in the future, get the results rolling and the crowds will return, 50,000 in the championship if we are doing well and playing attacking football. I do not want any negative defensive or long ball kick and run play. Is that an unrealistic wish?
7 Tel // Jul 9, 2009 at 12:04 PM
I think one of the worst things is that because of the confidentiality clause no-one knows who the bidders are, if indeed there are any. Therefore everyone is guessing and building up false hope. Then backtracking, most of the time we are reading regurgitated crap. However someone will guess right, then their report will be as first reported in the ( pick your own paper) and that journalist will say he knew all along but cant reveal his source. We will find out when and only when a deal is concluded, I just hope there are bidders and ashley doesnt do another u turn. The man should not be trusted, nor should lambias. They have failed to communicate for two years so why believe them now.

Speculation is just a bit different to what we were saying this time last year. I know we ended up with next to nowt as regards new players but the names being mentioned were in a much higher class bracket.
I’ve no problem with us getting players like Beckford (they all start at the bottom as it were) but how our dreams have been (for the moment) downgraded!!

Punk Skunk….just me getting mad, what I should have said is that for the majority of the time they have failed to communicate, but when they have it has been lies. Eg I recall the chronicle interview lambias saying from now on there would be full and frank communication with the fans. It never happened. He said in the last few days there were more than 2 offers at 100 mil. Point one is cant he count beyond two, or perhaps has so much disregard for us thinks we cant, point two is he also said the first 100 mil offer would be accepted, or the first to offer 100mil would get the club. Now their are “more than two” We dont want to get into a bidding war is another phrase associated with him or ashley. What are we doing now that the asking price is met if not trying to get more?

Might I suggest that the reason they’re not appointing Shearer, whether temp or permanent, is that they neither want to in any event and that they’re planning for the sale to fail?
Furthermore, of the high earners are shipping out and we’re not buying replacements, this is where the recruitment of kids for the future comes in. If there’s no choice but to play them then as far as MA’s concerned, his plan works!
An unmitigating disaster.

My take on this debacle:
No bids
No serious interest
No hope!
Llambias saying there are bids at £100m was to coax some bids from people who might be interested.
If there had been bids that matched the asking price why hasn’t one been accepted?
Ashley was on about first come first serve wasn’t he?
As a season ticket holder and someone who has paid for three years up front I expect to have a update every now and again!

Hey skunk, you’re dead right and we shouldn’t beleive all the media prints. That’s common sense and sound thinking but all of the frustration’s born of the lack of anything concrete.
All the club’s got to say is that either there are sticking points but things’ll be sorted soon or negotaiations are ongoing or nowt’s happening and its SNAFU.
As is, they appear to be treating the fans with utter contempt and that’s what’s p’ing a lot of folk off.
47 Tel // Jul 9, 2009 at 1:34 PM
Punk Skunk, its human nature to want as much as possible for an asset, however I was brought up to be honest, if I was selling lets say my car for 5 grand and someone offered me the asking price, 5 grand, then I would accept, not wait for another prospective buyer who may or may not offer me more. In this case 100 mil was the asking price, and therfore when the first 100mil was offered he should have sold, that is what he said, and he hasnt done so. That makes him a liar. No arguments. Both staements have came from the two of them, 1st to offer 100mil gets club, we now have two offers or more, but havent sold.
48 WELSHMAG // Jul 9, 2009 at 1:34 PM

I wasn’t really having a go at Seymour Pierce @74, because they will try to get the best money for their client (MA) and so if it takes a couple of weeks extra then so be it as far as they are concerned.
Likewise if I was MA I would want the best price … so again a couple of weeks makes no difference if it means a couple of extra million quid or so.
What really cheeses me off is the lazy journalism which says things such as ‘likely’ or ’source’ or ‘may’ which basically means … we have no clue … but we can’t think of anything else to write.
If you journos have no clue (which you don’t) don’t bother with the storys … just wait like the rest of us …

From newcastle online could be why its taking F*c£ing ages….
A guy I work with (never been one to talk s**** or claimed to be in ITK) has passed on some information that is not really new but may shed light on why everything has come to a standstill.
Apparently there have been 3 bids in excess of £100M, however Ashley would only trouser about half of that amount as the bids include paying outstanding transfer fees, undertaking the overdraft etc. Ashley isn’t too keen on playing ball as he wants to gain £100M himself, meaning in reality he really wants about £150M.
Seymour Pierce have allegedly named the Asian Consortium as the preferred bidder, as they offer the best options in terms of stability and future investment, however they also offer Ashley a worse option in what he would gain in cash. Shepherd’s consortium apparently offer the best deal for Ashley in relation to what he would gain, but only by about £10M, and would also leave Shepherd and Co to pay off some transfer fees. Interestingly, the Asians (No clarification was given whether or not these were Malaysian or not) also have a local businessman as part of their consortium, and he would likely be their figurehead if their bid came to fruition. They would almost certainly put Shearer in charge, and he would be given a modest transfer budget, but also be allowed to spend any incoming fees. The business plans of all 3 bids are based on promotion this season. Ashley believes he can force at least one of the group’s hands to stump up a little extra cash, and has told Seymour Pierce this, who have advised him he’s unlikely to be offered more than he already has, and to run with one of the 3 offers. He doesn’t want to do business with Shepherd though, although it’s looking increasingly likely that he might have to.
As I said only what I’ve been told, sounds quite plausible and was apparently from someone at Barclays
92 magforlife // Jul 9, 2009 at 4:38 PM
I would have thought the 50% take up of season tickets would spur them on to sell the club, if they are dilly dallying ( as cockneys do as the song goes) there will be no business left to sell.

OFF TOPIC!
16.29 Rennes midfielder Stephan Mbia’s proposed move to Marseille has hit a snag after the failure to agree personal terms and he is now reportedly on his way to England to discuss a move to Stoke City, having previously been a target for Everton.
Remember when we as in for him he said his dream is to play for Newcastle?!? He also said the same about Arsenal, Everton, Marseille and Stoke
Money has gone to his heed me thinks

Waddles, that would make sense. Who knows, there might actually be something to that. I’m completely not expecting anything to be done tomorrow, despite the talk of a press conference. With Llambias staying in England for the weekend, that could actually mean that he’s going to be working on making Ashley finally decide on a bid! Unfortunately, that also means that he knows it’s going to take longer than just Friday. The idiots are killing this club!

answer me this
If you were Shearer, waiting and waiting etc.
Would you even consider walking away? Could we blame him if he did?
111 Nobby_Long // Jul 9, 2009 at 5:04 PM
I expect there is some truth in what Waddles has said.
Yes there will be bids for £100m, but all are likely to have different strings attached & some possibly may include payments over differing terms & perhaps on promotion.
I also believe that Bwin could have been in the process for a while and its just that their name has come up now. A week or so back, there was some articles stating that a central european investor was interested that had links to sporting/entertainment business – so just because they had suddenly been mentioned does not mean that new bidders are suddenly popping up & potentially delaying things further.
To be honest – why would Ashley want to delay things too much? – the longer it takes, the more the club will remain in limbo & that just means the overdraft will slowly mount up & the less chance of getting his asking price.
Plus – while any purchaser wants to get the club for the best possible deal, they have to balance losing out by a few million, with the fact that they know that Ashley is really struggling to fund the club & has to sell soon – it will be in their interest to have a quick sale.
Either way, I can see there being a couple of weeks negotiation – which we are probably in the middle of now, before a SPA is signed with one of the parties.
The net result just being Ashley has to take a bigger loss than he wanted – but hey, that’s great from where I can see.

Leeds United can confirm that we have received offers direct from two Premier League clubs for Fabian Delph.
The offers have been rejected.
It is not the club’s usual policy to comment on speculation. However, in these circumstances we felt it appropriate to clarify the situation.
Approaches have also been made in respect of Jermaine Beckford which have also been rejected.

What I think is obvious is that if he has had bids of £100m they all have conditions attached.
Whether Ashley is happy with them conditions I very much doubt.
I’m not too sure Worky’s assesment of it is quite fair.
Conditions will be attached to all the offers so that bit will be correct I would think.
Or it could be taking so long because Seymour Pierce are just looking into each bid and eciding the best option for us and Ashley.

I was with my Shepherd contact for a couple of hours today. He doesn’t know everything, (like he is not sure whether Freddie is part of a consortium or not) but he does know a bit.
1. Shepherd does have a bid in, but it is below the £60M quoted in the press. He has told MA not to bother asking him to up it, cos that is his first and final offer.
2. He reckons the Shepherds know for sure that there were no other bids lodged by Ashley’s deadline day. They believe strongly that no others have come in since. That it is all for show, with no substance.
Please no sniping. This was genuinely told me today. Whether it is right or wrong, you guys can make up your own minds…

“Nick C-is your shepherd contact saying he’s basically under the impression that everything going on with the “malaysians” is complete nonsense?..or are we talking pre deadline bid day, and the malaysians have came in since?”
Ross, presuming this ridiculous story were true, Shepherd wouldn’t have much of a clue about the other bids anyway. Even if he did, and he’s going ’round blabbing about them, he would be in breach of non-disclosure agreements, which would almost certainly ruin his bid. and could leave him open to being sued. Everything he has is only worth around £50 million anyway.

“Help needed!
I’m going to Spain on Saturday and it’s obvious we won’t know anything by then.
I have access to the internet but I need to at least try and enjoy myself.
Any ideas how I can just totally forget about the takeover and come back in two weeks time to find out we’ve been bought?
Any suggestions welcome….”
Stuart, get yourself a nice Spanish lass who gans like the clappers!
203 Ross // Jul 9, 2009 at 8:15 PM
worky-true, i’m not one to normally respond to rumours as it is. Sitting around like a lemon is getting frustrating though, i cant see us hearing anything for another week or two aswell. Im pretty sure we wont hear anything tomorrow, or next week. you’ve gotta wonder how long Shearer will hang around like. I was also linked to another story by a mate regarding Bwin being in for the club, from the chron i think. its just all complete rubbish like
204 Gordo // Jul 9, 2009 at 8:17 PM

ToonEskimo-
I recently sent this email to Seymour Pierce:
“Good evening. My name is Ryan Hurley. I represent a North American consortium who has a vested interest in purchasing an English football club to further our financial interests abroad. I write you this email to address this issue and ascertain whether or not the acquisition of this club could be a viable and lucrative financial venture or if, in fact, it has already been accounted for by another well-backed financial group. Thank you for any information you can give me.
Have a wonderful day,
Ryan Hurley
Financial Counselor”
LoL, hope this sh!t works. At the very least they could tell me whether or not the club is still up for sale…
213 Troy Stavers // Jul 9, 2009 at 8:40 PM
Regarding Shepherd being the next owner, I very much doubt it.
I know someone very close to Shepherd and even Shepherd now knows Ashley would rather keep the club than sell it to him.
Despite putting an £85m bid in, he has now resigned himself to not owning the club.
In the words spoken to Shepherd by Ashley, “I would rather piss on my mother’s grave than sell to you”.
This is not made up, its absolutely true and David Craig is barking up the wrong tree.
214 AndyT // Jul 9, 2009 at 8:42 PM
Ryantoon, why would Ashley be in Newcastle? He hates it.

Thanks, m8!! I can write up a little somethin’ when I wanna lol. Let’s hope they actually give an indication. Probably not, cuz if I was actually a financial consultant working with a consortium high profile enough to buy newcastle, that email address is probably not where I’d go… who knows. We’ll see lol!!

please not shepherd! we need someone with money and lots of it! can’t understand why the likes of portsmouth and man city were more attractive than us!
220 tooneskimo // Jul 9, 2009 at 9:00 PM
Troy,
If NUFC has just about ruined Ashley financially (his own fault largely) would he flog it back to Shepherd for about a third of what it’s cost him overall. Who’s to say Shepherd didn’t slip Al a backhander to see the toon go down, which may have suited them both but certainly not Ashley….

About half way down it says something like ‘ AS wants to talk to SB when he returns on monday ‘
That suggest either AS is back in work monday or he is still talking to the players. Its a bit weird
227 tooneskimo // Jul 9, 2009 at 9:30 PM
Thanks anyway OHurley I’ve got one just wasn’t sure if it was worth replacing the screen on it..cheers.
Toon Factor, the season ticket analysis makes interesting reading, it’s not just us that has it in for Ashley and some of the players, looks like most of the regulars do to. Should print a copy off and circulate it around the Benton training ground, not that they’ll be bothered.
228 AndyT // Jul 9, 2009 at 9:30 PM

230 Rodzilla // Jul 9, 2009 at 9:32 PM
Johno,
“Alan Shearer wants Bassong to stay at Newcastle and had planned to talk to the Toon’s player of the season last term when he returns on Monday.
Yet with Big Al a frustrated spectator while the sale of United drags on today, Bassong must wait and see if his transfer request is accepted by the current regime.”
….AS “had planned” to talk to SB when SB gets back on Monday (not AS)
Wishful thinking mate…….
231 Rodzilla // Jul 9, 2009 at 9:36 PM
Neski, surely it must be blindingly obvious to NUFC that the season tickets aren’t selling because none of the fans know WTF is going on, or is likely to happen. If this isn’t a polite nudge to hurry the fk up I don’t know what is. Watch them go like hot cakes if/whenever we get to hear what 90% of us want to hear.

233 tooneskimo // Jul 9, 2009 at 9:38 PM
Any player under contract is not going anywhere until the new owners have been installed, they are part of the fixtures and fittings and as such part of the sale, they can moan as much as they want but no one is listening.

Doocey-
How much ye want for it again? Better deal than what I can get from Eurosport? Also- is there any customization (player name, number, patches?).
Either way, I’m a bit interested. Trying to save for a MacBook, though lol
242 OHurley // Jul 9, 2009 at 9:59 PM
So- I picked up a strip for last year and had simply the number 9 on the back. No name. Figured that way I could pay homage to all the great 9’s from the past. Milburn, MacDonald, Shearer (maybe not so much Oba…)
Honestly- I’d like a retro strip with the Broon Ale logo. that was probably my fav shirt.

244 waddler // Jul 9, 2009 at 10:00 PM
Looks like Ashley will only accept £100 million, meaning he walks away with £100 million.
Or from the bidders point of view, its your club if you pay me £100 million and also take on the bank overdraught and any other nasty surprises you came across during due- due -due diligence.
The other condition being Shepherd will never get control of this club again.
Have we even had bids from other groups?
If we haven’t and Ashley was trying to smoke out a bidder, we are really in the S****e up to our ears.

I’m not saying I don’t, but Bwin sponsoring Newcastle is alot more plausible than the stories coming out of some so called ‘fans’ mouths on here and then you get people who say they know what’s going on but don’t say anything…it’s all just bravado, everyone’s full of $hit.
