Shearer Patience Running Out With Newcastle Snubs

July 11th, 2009 by Ed Harrison · 79 Comments

As the Newcastle sale seems to go on unabated, but with no buyers for the club yet, Alan Shearer is becoming more than a little disenchanted at what’s going on at his home town club.

Alan Shearer - patience running out

And while we don’t think Alan Shearer is ready to walk away from the prospect of becoming manager of Newcastle United, we can appreciate just how difficult Ashley and Llambias are making it for the Toon hero.

After all they have already messed around Kevin Keegan and forced him to leave the club, after they amazingly sided with Dennis Wise, of all people.

There’s somebody who has no Newcastle blood in him at all, but that was the stupidity shown by the current Newcastle owners, and they have paid the price for that.

Unfortunately the club has also paid the price of their ineptitude with relegation.

And it seems they are now messing around Alan Shearer by not keeping him updated on events going on with the Newcastle sale.

The Sun today says Alan has no real idea who is involved in the bidding to take over the Tyneside  club, and he has been completely isolated by Mike Ashley and Derek Llambias.

A close friend of Shearer’s said:

“Communication would appear not to be Ashley’s strength.”

“He and Llambias have kept Alan guessing but time is running out if he is to return and install his plans for a promotion charge.”

“The Toon fans look upon him as ‘The Messiah’. But he can hardly work a miracle when he’s being frozen out by Ashley.”

“And he feels betrayed at the way Joey Barton has been allowed to return to training. That’s a real kick in the teeth for Alan.”

So that doesn’t bode well for Joey Barton if Alan returns, and you can be sure Joey will not play another game for the club with Alan in charge.

The sooner these two “executives” (we use the word loosely) leave the Newcastle club the sooner Alan and others can start to put Newcastle back together again, and the better it will be for all of us who love the club.

Mike Ashley has been an unmitigated disaster for Newcastle United.

Comments welcome.

Unfortunately the club has also paid the price of their ineptitude with relegation.

Our club don’t paid the price for relegation but we paid for FXXXing owner like Mike Ashley.

It’s not the club fault. It’s all about personal only.

  • 2 SJS // Jul 11, 2009 at 11:45 AM

Surely Shearer must be aware of whats happening or else I think he would have gone public by now. Just a little bit more trouble making by the national press looking for a nibble from the frustrated fans.

A report in the Sun says….. oh & when did we start beliveing what the Sun crap-loid has to say for itself??? not in my lifetime, thats for sure….

More claptrap tabloid rubbish t.b.h. i will believe it when shearer says it! their just filling column inches.

Im goin to the game today.Hope to see ranger and the young lads playing.Only positive thing considering the last few months.

  • 6 shrews mag // Jul 11, 2009 at 12:07 PM

… another day … same old s**t in the papers … although they have changed the normal ’source’ into Shearer’s ‘close pal’ which is very inventive …

    … it’s all newspaper b******s …

  • 7 geordie deb // Jul 11, 2009 at 12:33 PM

Don’t believe a word of it. It’s just being reported to wind the fans up a bit more, they just want a reaction as they’ve nothing else to report

  • 8 Sav // Jul 11, 2009 at 12:38 PM

NE correspondent for TalkSport said he reckoned if a buyer simply offererd to take trhe debts and wage liabilities off Ashley’s hands in the morning, he’d probably take it. Estimates its costing FatBoy 200,000k per DAY so the 100 million/80 million/60 million is almost irrelevant. None of the current lot are as daft as our boy and are well aware of the problems we are going to have with moving on undermotivated players on massive wages at the back end of their flagging careers and clinging to the door posts as we try to get them oot the door.

  • 9 Geordies // Jul 11, 2009 at 12:40 PM

1st Toon game of the season today. I would normally be excited and all the previous seasons woe’s would have been forgotten with the anticipation of new signings and seeing new players. Until this season Ashley has destroyed that, I hate the Barsteward for doing that. The knut should be flung off the Tyne bridge with all his Lackies.

  • 10 shrews mag // Jul 11, 2009 at 12:52 PM

Sav – mind you its a good sign that none of the current crop of potential owners are as thick as MA … may mean that we get an owner who can run a football club properly …!!!

You are right though … there is a hell of a lot of work to be done behind the scenes before we can even think about getting back to the PL.

Whoever gets the club … they (and us) will need a lot of patience …!!!

I’m still expecting an announcement after the match today because the bid has been recommended , get more worried by the minute though.

I’m finding it difficult to think of a worse time ever to have been a NUFC fan, even the mackums winning the cup, previous owners/ managers etc. WHEN WILL THIS NIGHTMARE END!

This story will be bull, like all the rest. Joey Barton vs Shearer, a easy target for the tabloids to make up a story, and make the fans turn on Barton even more. I don’t want Barton at the club but this the kind of story that makes fans turn on each other and turn on the club.

What’s everyones predictions for today vs the mighty Shamrock Rovers … I can see things going pear shaped ….

Normally I’d say shut up ya overpaid ……………..

but I can only agree with Bass, he says:

“On Monday, I’m going to be in training. I’m going to start to get myself fit. I need to be fit for this season. I have to work for myself.”

Does this mean he’s unimpressed with the training at the minute and having to do it himself!

    WHAT A SHAMBLES.

“The situation has to be settled. I need to know who is in charge. It’s a little bit hard to try and find someone to talk with.”

Wouldn’t we all like this settled! This owner is a complete and utter disgrace and I really hope every business he is involved in has major problems and he continues to lose money. Certainly his reputation will be permanently scared by this episode but little consolation.

  • 18 shrews mag // Jul 11, 2009 at 1:12 PM

batty – and how many are shamrock going to score ???

  • 19 shrews mag // Jul 11, 2009 at 1:16 PM

oba – bassong has been a model professional this past season, so I would wish hime the best of luck.

He’s probably one of the only players we could move on … and make a profit …

  • 20 ObaFan2 // Jul 11, 2009 at 1:18 PM

Shrews I agree but my point is the way he is being pushed out of the club by this situation and the incompetance of the owner.

  • 21 Satboyslim // Jul 11, 2009 at 1:20 PM

Jesus, i’ve been reading some of George Caulkins past stuff, brought back some bad memories:

    http://www.timesonline.co.uk/tol/sport/football/premier_league/article476000.ece

    http://www.timesonline.co.uk/tol/sport/football/premier_league/newcastle/article476620.ece

I think that right there is why we can’t allow Fat Freddie anywhere near our club again. Even if it was a bit better than Mike Ashley it’s still as good as a backwards step as in 5 years we will be in the same situation.

  • 22 Satboyslim // Jul 11, 2009 at 1:21 PM

the sun headline actually made me chuckle. not a shred of truth in it. 1) how can a lan shearer be ready to walk out on club when he isn’t even part of it at this current time. thats like me saying because i haven’t been officially announced as manchester united manager i am going to walk out :-)

  • 28 Doocey // Jul 11, 2009 at 1:55 PM

    That’s what the word is.

  • 29 Tino 11 // Jul 11, 2009 at 1:55 PM

Workyticket – What you and other people from the ‘other blog’ don’t seem to grasp is that Ed or Neil never say these stories are true they simply report the stories, which have been written by others, comment on them and ask us to comment on them.

  • 30 magforlife // Jul 11, 2009 at 1:59 PM

Sav – this story doesnt make any sense either, what debts are they talking about?
Direct quote from Harris at Seymour Pierce was that what was attractive to purchasers of the club was that it was virtually debt free.
There will always be a rolling debt of transfer fees and wages, most fees are paid in installments, but these are offset by income of outgoing transfer fees which are also received in installments. Ashleys net outlay on player purchases was one of the lowest in the league and one of the main reasons we got relegated.
The media portrayal of us as a debt ridden club is rubbish, they are desperate for us to do a Leeds and that story fits very nicely around that perception.
Yes, wages need to be reduced but if the right owners come in and the season tickets and merchandising pick back up, we wont struggle as they would have you believe although tv income will be down.
Leeds spent massively on their squad before they went down, we havent, Lambias and co wont talk to the press so they just say anything they want, but you dont have to believe it. Thats my rant for the day.

  • 31 magforlife // Jul 11, 2009 at 2:07 PM

Sav – as an example, the fees for Milner, Nzogbia and Given are paid in this summer, 29 million i believe?

So whats taking so long here ?
Each day we read, it could happen to-morrow.
Then there are the stories about new groups (the recent interest by a Swiss group)
Hey were selling a football club here not negotiating the end of the cold war, why all the secrecy ?
Someone should inform MA and his brainstrust Llambias there`s a PR dept. @ the club, that has yet to be used, perhaps they could fire them if they havent allready done so, who can tell the difference?
The longer this s**t continues the more unbelievable it becomes, Incomprtence, Ignorance, arrogance, has there ever in the history of the game been a m0re inept owner of a club, beggers belief !

I don’t know if any of the bloggers here have looked into the business history of the profitable group but it may be worth an article Ed some rather shady business deals in its past if they are a serious bidder and do pass the FA’s fit and proper persons test lets hope its not another Ashley quick buck attempt.

The club is a mess, if it runs on for another week or 2 we are royally screwed!!! Targets being snatched up left right and centre, players leaving (Bassong will be the start or a mass exodus) which will be a good thing but not if we cant get replacements, MA/Lamearse not saying a dam word apart from “More than 2″ WHAT THE HELL DOES THAT MEAN!!! 415 bids of 100mil cos thats above 2 and yeah it might take a while to sift through all of them maybe thats why its taking so long…..?? I bet Shearer is pulling his hair out at the moment and if we dont watch he will be next Southampton manager!!
