Chris Hughton has come out to downplay the rumors that Bassong refused to join Newcastle for the Darlington friendly yesterday.
Sebatien Bassong-Did he refuse to play?
Chris Hughton spoke of the Bassong situation,
“He was one who came back later than the others because he was away with the Cameroon side, so it was just a precaution with him.”
It doesn’t seem like a coincidence that Bassong has missed the first two pre-season friendlies since he has been the most outspoken player about wanting to leave Newcastle.
This could be seen as a type of revolt for the recent embargo put on transfers at Newcastle by Mike Ashley or it could just be nonsense.
I would tend to believe that Bassong does not want to play any pre-season matches for Newcastle because from his past comments it seemed that his mind was fixed on leaving.
Bassong would of course be a great player in the Championship, so losing out on such a young and gifted player would be a big loss for the magpies. The high transfer fee that he will command is the only positive Bassong does end up leaving.
He is not expected to play against Huddersfield this week and if there is any weight to these rumors, next weekends match at Leyton Orient will certainly show whether Bassong is refusing to play. If he does not make an appearance against the O’s, it could signify that Bassong is has no intention of playing for Newcastle.

Comment #2Ed, Bassong missed the first game because he was given a weeks extra leave, along with the other guys on international duty: Xisco, Jonas and Geremi.
He doesn’t seem like the type to refuse to play, he knows he needs to achieve match fitness for whoever he plays for next year.

It’s quite easy actually, hitman. All you have to do is be honest, and only write about things you you are reasonably certain of.
You should try it sometime! 🙂

We’re quite happy with it actually, hitman. Besides, why on earth would we get sour grapes over some silly football ‘blog?

Comment #11hey guys keep your cool. Also @worky , I think you should appreciate the effort ed has put in this blog. I also respect you having your own blog. But Is till think sometimes its unfair to say all these things to Ed. I am happy reader of both blogs. I think everyone can do what they like but please don’t just say bad things to anybody it hurts. I hope you understand what i said and don’t mind any bit of it.

Comment #13Anybody see the quote from Hughton saying the sale could be resolved in three to five days?
Hope this is good news on its way as apologies for repeating myself but i cant wait to see the back of the majority of this squad.
I will never forgive them for the relegation and the gutless display at Villa on the last day in particular.

Comment #20magforlife – yes I saw that after the match highlights he said something like “it could be 3 days or a week….”
I just didn’t like the hesitation at the end – made the pessimist in me think he was just conjecturing totally – and could have been going on to say “or a month or whatever”

Sunday’s a day of rest. Cool your jets you feisty baskets. I couldn’t be bothered me like. Too hot to argue today.
Bassong was always going to want to be away. Wouldn’t be surprised if he ends up at Arsenal with Oba.
A fair few of them gave me the impression yesterday that they were looking to be away to be honest.

Comment #28I’m pretty sure I say ‘haway’ and I generally write it phonetically as well. Don’t think I’ve picked up a Durham twang yet and I was born in St James’, bottle-fed Broon Ale, raised on Tudor crisps and only quit the Toon when the Bigg Market went soft.
I might have made some of that up but I still say ‘haway’.
I fancied Huddersfield but I’ve got a game myself.

Comment #29Ive got a feeling that the takeover will be either this Wednesday or March 22nd 2011. I think we will be taking over by Edward my friend or james blunt the singer. My contacts in the swiss army tell me that Alan shearer has a 67% chance of becoming the next manager which has spurred me on to put a £7.18 bet on Gerry francis. I work for a company called Shell and i heard on the grapevine that john hall used to own NuFc sshhhh dont tell ED harrison. I had scampi and chips for my tea but i still think The reward of suffering is experience. I will always love Newcastle coz i feel Love is patient, love is kind. It does not envy, it does not boast, it is not proud. It is not rude, it is not self-seeking, it is not easily angered, it keeps no record of wrongs. Love does not delight in evil, but rejoices with the truth. It always protects, always trusts, always hopes, always perseveres. Love never fails.

Comment #33Newcastle is an addiction for me i love the history, the black nad white strips, the old gallowgate end, pissing on peoples jeans during the match, singing the blaydon races and getting squashed to Fook in ‘the Corner’, running on the pitch when we beat leicster 5-4 (I Did!) yes i love the toon. My love for Newcastle is a species of madness, only that it is a derangement of the Volition, and not of the intellectual faculties

Comment #39I think that I will take my daughter to the Huddersfield game on Tuesday to see the new strip, she likes colours like pink and yellow.
Another glass of wine I think, I’m out of beer, I drank it all last night.
Another topic – I emailed Talksport earlier tonight because a journo called Tony Evans was on. He had said potential buyers had cooled because of all of the leaks coming out of Newcastle. I asked what information was leaked because we were annoyed by a total lack of information.
Unfortunately, I left the room and got back to hear only the last few seconds of his reply – did anyone hear the whole answer?
