Hull City assistant manager Brian Horton has come out today to deny that Hull are looking to take Newcastle midfielder Joey Barton on loan.
Joey Barton-Will be hard to offload
Brian Horton spoke of Joey’s link to Hull,
“Joey Barton is a very good footballer. I know him, I have done things with him in Manchester.
“He has obviously had issues and that is a shame because he can be a very good footballer but at this present time I don’t think it’s an area that really needs to be looked at.”
It is hard to tell if teams have genuine interest in Joey Barton since this scenario is awfully familiar to the one with Birmingham a few weeks ago. The sequence of events and terms of the deal are almost identical, though the link with Birmingham seemed to have a lot more authenticity.
That fact that teams will be unable to pay all of Joey Barton’s wages is going to make a loan deal for Barton almost impossible. It serves no purpose for Newcastle to have to pay a majority of a player’s wages when he could be of invaluable in the upcoming season.
There may have been inquiries by Hull for Joey Barton but I don’t think anything serious ever got discussed. Remember this link comes on the heels of Mike Ashley’s embargo on players leaving or coming to Newcastle.
No doubt another lower table premiership side will be linked with Barton next week. I have my money on Stoke.

Comment #3Joey Barton is a latter day saint. I find it almost incomprehensible how so many people look to tarnish his obvious righteousness.
I love Joey Barton, in fact, it goes even deeper than that. Joey Barton is the new Messiah. Fk Keegan, he was always a c*nt.

Comment #4…just tell everyone who takes the pi55 with stupid offers to take a swift ride on the big one.
Joseph Bartholemew Barton is the new Messiah, for it is written – thou shalt not taketh away thy fkn player that had wages paid for whilst in jail.
Joey Barton is sweeter than the good Lord himself. In fact, he’s that pure and straight, I’d iron a baby on him.
All Hail the new Barton Board.
Hallelujah!

Comment #5Hello Guys. This is my first time posting on here although I have regularly read the blogs. On the subject of Barton, although he is a risk as a person, as a player, I reckon he will be an asset and to be honest, I dont think we are in any position to pick and choose at present, if we want to stand any chance of going up this season. Lets give him the support and if he steps out of line again, he can go. We have a few NUFC fans down here in Oz and as an expat gateshead lad, I really miss seeing the lads play. Last time I was at the “cathedral”, it was April 2003, NUFC v Villa, ended up 1-1 with Nobby scoring a sublime free kick although Dublin headed a late equaliser. Hope to be back again Xmas 2010 when we will be back in the PL.

Comment #6When it was rumoured the ‘Kinnell was coming back to manage Newcastle, the Toon took the unprecedented step of responding to gossip, and quashing the rumour.
This was done because such nastiness could only have a negative effect on season ticket sales.
It would appear that Hull have done exactly the same thing with the buying Barton stories now circulating, and for exactly the same reason.
Can’t blame them.
I understand that they didn’t consider it nececssary to include a relegation clause in the Toon Galacticos contracts, as they thought the chances of us going down were so slim, but surely there must be a “Being a knob” clause in there somewhere for the likes of Smith and Barton? Lets face it – the chances of needing that clause were always going to be pretty high.
So – we got a win against Darlington! Looks like old two-touch Shola’s going to be our main man this season.

Comment #7shola may score two against darlington okay. but against more physical and simply better teams in the championship i dont think he can step up. its a completely different game. just like the fa cup game watford chelsea. watford held their own for the majority of the game and proved they could play with a premiership team.
this season is going to be difficult it is just going to be a different type of football.

Comment #8Here’s on for the terraces
You put your left leg in
Your left leg out
Like Shola Ameobi
Then you fall down on the ground
You never get a shot on goal
Or pass the ball around
Thats why the fans all shout
Ohhhhh Shola Ameobi
Ohhhhh Shola Ameobi
Ohhhhh Shola Ameobi
One touch, two touch, all fall down

Comment #9NUFC Hope;- sorry mate , I’m just a sarcastic git at heart.
I’m not a big fan of Andy Carroll but I reckon he’s streets ahead of Shola.
If Carroll managed to pick up anything from Viduka then he could be useful.
But as for Shola – well past his sellby date

Hi Rodz, you should have stuck with your initial instinct on Khan on points…. never mind, did you enjoy the fight?
Back to the toon, anybody manage to have a word with the Shepherd consortium that were “gracing” Darlington’s Director’s box yesterday?
Anybody think Ashley will still be in charge come kick off?

Comment #12Slightly off topic about the 5 who broke the curfew in Dublin.
It seems to have completely passed these players by that a lot of fans would be overjoyed if they handed in transfer requests. It’s like relegation never happened for them and they think we would be upset if there was a mass exodus. Bring it on I say.
Butt, Smith, Barton, Geremi, Butt, Nolan and Duff – what a collection of overpaid, uselss c…p!
Archie Brand that is an absolute classic – surely there must be a “Being a knob” clause in there somewhere for the likes of Smith and Barton?

Comment #15melbournemac – greetings. I hear what you say about giving Barton “one more chance” and if he screws up again, he’s out.
But, we’ve been saying that time and time again and he ALWAYS will screw up again, either on the field (see Liverpool game – would we have stayed up if he’d been in the team for the last 3 games?) or off it, bringing the Toon into disrepute again. No surprise that he was one of the 5 who defied Chris Hughton and went on the town in Ireland the other week – not a big crime but just indicates that he has no regard for discipline and no respect for ANY manager’s authority.
Sorry, I say anybody take him for a couple of million and half his wages – have him.
Let’s face it, it’s a bit like Michael Owen, except he’s been criticised and calculations made about how much it’s cost per appearance and per goal for the Toon. Anybody like to do the sums on how much JB has cost us per appearance – bearing in mind his convictions, injuries, suspensions – much more self-inflicted than MO? And the chances of getting a full season out of him in future – zilch.

Comment #16Morning all. It is Sunday again and the NOTW has its usual load of made up news about NUFC.
If all potential buyers have to sign a non-disclosure agreement how come the NOTW is privy to what McMahon is doing or offering? Are their so called reporters really that stupid?

I can’t stand the little scrot, he’s a bully & need a good kicking himself!!
As for the famous 5 who broke the curfew, what is the point in having a curfew if you do nowt when it’s broken?? Houghton is a pussy & is afraid of the players, they should all be docked at least 2 weeks wages for that & so what if the put in transfer requests, I’d rip their bloody arms off for it, at least that way they can’t sponge more money of us if they leave, it was their choice!!
Maybe that’s Ashleys plan, put an embargo on the players leaving, so they all get pissed off, hand in transfer requests, so he doesn’t have to pay towards their wages if/when they leave!!! not a bad plan if you ask me.. lol
