Newcastle will end their run-up to their first season in the Chamionship with a tame draw against Leeds.
Ryan Taylor-Had two good chances
Newcastle’s preseason started with a bang, at least results wise, but fizzzled out with a horrendous loss and a lackluster draw against two League One sides. This will hardly fill St. James’ Park with confidence going into the opening match against West Bromwich Albion.
To be fair though, Leeds never really looked like scoring while Newcastle had four solid chances. Two came from right winger Ryan Taylor who had a volley saved at the close of the first half and hit the bar five minutes after intermission.
Sebastien Bassong, making his first appearance this pre-season, had a header narrowly go over the upright. Substitute Fabricio Coloccini also had a shot go over the bar in the last fifteen minutes of the match.
This day will mostly be remembered for the departure of Obafemi Martins. It will be interesting to see who follows him out the door. Hopefully there will be some reinforcements before the window closes and not just departures.

Comment #2There once was man called mike Ashley
Who conducted the toon rather brashly
With a pint in one hand and his head in the sand
And an away strip of cheap haberdashery

Comment #8Well, I took the family along to the game tonight but hadn’t bought tickets as we’ve just arrived home from holiday. Got there at around 7.25 and stood in a huge queue to get into the Leazes End. The problem was that the queue went all the way around the back of the Leazes to the East corner and it simply didn’t move at all.
We were all getting very frustrated and I went to talk to a steward. There were no plans to delay the kick off despite the queues around the ground being apparently worse and with the Leeds fans also struggling to get in with hundreds of their vocal support still outside the ground as the kick off approached.
I walked further round to see what was going on and spoke to a steward I’ve known for 16 years. He expained that there was a problem with the cash turnstile and that they’d run out of tickets printed for the match.
Dozens of people started to leave as the match kicked off with no sign of being able to enter the ground. Suddenly, the queue started to move and it turned out that another turnstile had been opened but soon that stopped almost to a standstill as well.
We decided to go home after missing 25 mins of the game (queuing for 40 mins by this time) and still being no nearer to getting in. The thought of paying £30 to see half a game was not good! Loads of people were getting very angry at the obvious lack of organisation on the night and greater lack of info from the club or police. I spoke to a few officers who were worried that trouble may ensue as a number of Leeds fans were still not able to get in to see the match and they’d heard about the chaos at the turnstiles.
The only saving grace is that it seems we didn’t actually miss much!
As for the Martins sale there’s been nothing confirmed on Sky Sports as yet regarding a medical and definite sale but if he goes I can’t see us bringing anyone in. I reckon that a few extra players will go by the end of August with no replacements being made at all so that Ashley can make a few quid back from the club.
I hope I’m wrong!

Comment #14I was one of the unlucky ones who got into the ground.I will never go to a game again aslong as Alan Smith wears a black and white strip never mind the captain`s armband. The mid field was out classed by apoor Leed`s midfield .No pace in our team is a major problem, can`t see where the goals will come from. Please Ashley end this nightmare now ,appoint a manager and get rid of Alan Smith,Joey Barton in midfield. Thanks to Oba and Habib .

Comment #16Davy Craig-ridiculous mate. Looks like Ashley is willing to make it awkward for us to even just get in and watch the bloody lads!
Obviously it would be silly to blame Ashley directly but at the end of the day people have said the day to day running of the club has gone to pot and things like this dont help said accusations. If it was said tickets were going to be made available on the door then there shouldnt have been an issue. Shows what they think when they havent even printed enough tickets for the match like. And if something does go wrong surely its common sense to have a plan B. Doesnt look good when the away fans were struggling to get in aswell.

Somebody in an earler article said they had seen Shepard at St James but he said he couldn’t speak. I also saw something this morning, may have been bbc gossip column, but said that Shearer to be appointed by end of the week. Could well be rubbish like we normally get, but who knows

It was a disgrace. There was a lad sat at the turnstile waiting for his supervisor to help and no one appeared for ages. One steward said that they were going to open more turnstiles but it just didn’t happen. No one seemed to care at all about the fans and it just seemed to epitomise what’s been going on this last year or so. How hard is it to open a few turnstiles and take money off willing customers?! It just showed again that this lot haven’t a clue about how to run a football club as a business!

Comment #25Davy Craig-exactly mate. One turnstile breaks and they look for a plan B. Eh..how about we open a few more to let the massive Q in and get behind the lads..whilst making some money in the process?..again, all far too logical for the rabble in charge at the minute like. Ashley wasnt even there, dunno if LLambiarse was?

Comment #31Something’s afoot that’s for sure, this is well into the eleventh hour.
After saying bye bye to Martins, it looks like we’ll be saying tardar to Beye as well. If they wanted out it’s probably best they leave because they wouldn’t have been able to hack it anyway.
Whatever happens, sooner or later – whoever stays, whoever goes – Newcastle don’t need any more prima-donnas. We need players that are hungry and are willing to stand up and fight cos it’s going to be tough now that the picnic is over.

Comment #33I see that the Joey’s been at it again, he gave Fabian Delph a good seeing to apparently.
“Furious Leeds boss Simon Grayson had to be held back by officials after his £8m-rated midfielder was left dazed by an off-the-ball body check by the Toon jailbird”, so says the Daily Express.
Remember the Leeds of old? They were the dirtiest team you ever saw man. They’d hack you and then kick you while you were doon before you could get in a sliding kick of your own in. The ref wouldn’t even bat an eye lid.
Bring back the 70’s I say (but not the Partridge Family or them stupid flares and platform shoes or the 3 day week and the power cuts).
The toon weren’t very good but hair was good in those days…

Comment #34OK, whether this is true or not because it is headlines in this mornings SUN but apprently, some gadgy from Dubai is on the verge of buying NUFC. His name is apprently Srous Mahjoob and is some sort of tycoon out there with a huge interest in football.
Apparently, he wants Keegan back and not Shearer because he believes Keegan is more of a world wide marketing name and he is prepared to stump up 40 million quid straight away to buy players.
Furthermore, Llambias has confirmed he is meeting with Mahjoob in the next few days and expects a deal to be completed within a week. If not, two other interested parties are still in the running.
No mdirect quotes from Llambias and you have to take this with a pinch of salt. Several reasons why?
1. Why has Llambias broken the NDA ?
2. Why Keegan, for gods sake, even when you consider his legal action against the club and the fact that he is a has been?
3. Could it be the sudden decision to sell players has something mto do mwith this takeover?
The next few days will be interesting

Comment #40Can anyone explain this to me because I am lost.
Alan Smith as far as I was aware was a semi decent striker for Leeds. Kevin Nolan was a semi decent midfielder for Bolton.
Why the hell is Smith in midfield and Nolan up top against Leeds last night?! Houghton is clueless. I am so very hopeful that something happens soon. If some players want to go then let them go, as much as it would be sad to see Beye and Bassong go I have always advocated having players 150% committed to NUFC. Also I think we will get a decent profit on Bassong, or should I say Cashley will!!
Heres hoping
