Butt May Want To Leave

There are some reports today that Nicky Butt may wish to leave Newcastle United.

Nicky Butt – considering his options

Nicky Butt may be concerned that a mas exodus is about to occur at Newcastle. With the sale of Martins, and the everyday links of Sebastien Bassong, Butt seems to be worried that Newcastle will have a threadbare side going into the season.

Other players that have been linked with a move or expressed interest are Fabricio Coloccini, Jonas Gutierrez, Steve Taylor, and Jose Enrique. However, Steven Taylor is totally committed to his hometown side.

I don’t think Nicky Butt leaving would anger too many fans.

In fact only the loss of Bassong and Beye would be seen as detrimental since they have both performed very well for Newcastle.

    Good riddance!

We need players who can run like hell for 90 minutes as fitness is a huge aspect to the championship.

Not to mention his age, aging legs, but his passing is awful, not to mention his ridiculous temper which results in way too many fouls, bookings and last season, pathetic penalties.

Ashley would sell the whole first team squad if he could. Presumably the annual wage is the sticking point for anyone doung due dilligence.

My real concern is that he flogs a load of players and then still doesn’t manage to sell the club b4 the transfer window shuts. In that scenario we are well and truly f****d ladies and gentlemen…

    What a bunch !
Anybody you havented vented about on this team?
Call yourselves the best fans in the country, yet all you do is slag your own players.
Nicky Butt provided good service to this club , but some on this blog are too ignorant (about the game) to understand what he accomplished on the field .
Yeah he was getting on and yeah his legs were going, but he was the only decent defensive midfielder we had, how many times did he break up attacks ? sure sometimes resorting to professional fouls , but I think there are some who appreciated what he accomplished for the side.
It`s my opinion he was an honest pro. who gave 100% every game,
    Good luck Nicky !

I’ve got mixed feelings about this.

He’s one of those players who, when he has a good game, it goes un-noticed because he is not expected to run the length of the pitch, beating the entire opposition team and scoring Maradona-like.

It’s not what he does, not was he’s asked to do and not what he’s able to do. He’s there to break up opposition play which he does do. Problem is, when he has a shocker, we can never cope with the results.

I think he is a good, but one dimensional player whose legs have gone. The championship could well be a perfect swansong for Nicky Butt.

However, looking to the future we need to be replacing him.

Chuck – Yeh he did provide a good service to the club…regardless of that he just isnt good enough! He passing was terrible and he just hasn’t got the legs anymore…no one can doubt his effort but we’re gunna need more than effort to get out of this league…not to mention the amount of games we’re gunna play this year! Time for him to move on or at least move over.

It’s sponsored by Texaco! Maybe it’s a good sign because Newcastle won the texaco Cup in 1974 or whatever it was – maybe I’m being a bit too hopeful there.

Just checked it out and the guy seems pretty confident.

Won’t believe it though till it is official.

I’m absolutely worn out now, emotionally drained from hearing the news of Sir Bobby and the last thing on my mind is more bollox about the club being sold.

It would take a person with no heart to try and get Newcastle Fans hopes up, emotionally I just cannot take the let down.

I just hope this is true…..

Same on Newcastle Online. p254. of Iranian to buy Toon thread.
Deal all but done and should be finalised within 3 days.
Buyers are believed to be the DIC Consortium from Dubai.

    Chuck

Don’t call us ignorant mate. What is ignorant, is sticking with a guy 5 years past their sell by date, who has taken 2 teams down now, us and Brum.

His so called experience can’t counter the fact his legs are gone, he can’t pass a ball to the same shirt, he creates nothing, he never scores, makes suicidally costly fouls and is on 50K a week. For Butt, read Smith, one of them alone is bad enough.

You tend to find the players who play Butt’s role these days are tall, very strong, athletic types.

Everything you say about Butt is in the past tense and that’s exactly the point.

Butt was easily one of our best players, at his age he was never supposed to play every game, but the rest of the side was so shocking that he had to.

He was a good solid player at the back and on goal.

    This is a concern.

That will be two goalscorers gone in Martins and Butt.

Still it will be ok as some say, we always have Jonas, Smith, Carroll Duff and Ameobi to get our goals, well known prolific goalscorers instead of an old bloke and a ‘headless chicken’ as some describe these players.

I suppose it will make getting a goal an occassion worthy of a celebration providing anyone is there to see it or awake.
