Late Equalizer Prevents Newcastle Win

After getting their noses in front this afternoon, Newcastle conceded a late penalty and equalizer, with just 5 minutes remaining at Tannadice.

Newcastle United were denied victory in their final pre-season friendly of the summer this afternoon, when Dundee United netted a late equalizer from the spot.

Dundee had already missed one spot kick when goalkeeper Steve Harper kept out Danny Swanson’s penalty on 65 minutes with the score at 1-0.

Steve Harper made the save as he dived to his left to palm clear Danny Swanson’s well-struck penalty, with Gomis hitting the rebound over the crossbar – and subsequently Harper was mobbed by his team-mates.

But with just 5 minutes to go David Goodwillie put the ball home giving Harper no chance, after right back Ryan Taylor had tugged on the shirt of Craig Conway inside the penalty area for a clear penalty.

Young 20 year-old  Geordie striker Andy Carroll had put the Newcastle side in front after 60 minutes when he took advantage of a terrible mix up between the Dundee back-line and the goalkeeper, Stevie Banks.

Newcastle wore their 3rd strip this afternoon
Worn here by an unhappy looking Kevin Nolan – cheer up Kevin!

And several Newcastle players were seen pointing to the skies, after Carroll’s goal, in dedication to former manager  Sir Bobby Robson, who lost his fifth and final fight with cancer on Friday.

The first half was dull to say the least, but there were signs of some good solid play from the Newcastle side in the second half, and the lads have to consider themselves a little unlucky not to have come away with the win.

This was better than last Wednesday night, when we could only get a draw against Leeds United, and much much better than the catastrophic 6-1 loss to Leyton Orient 8 days ago in London.

Comments welcome.

I expect Bassong, Beye, Coloccini (all notably out of the squad today) as well as Jonas will undoubtedly be off. I also expect Geremi to leave on a free if ANYONE wants him. Wouldn’t mind if someone signed Butt either, as Guthrie, Barton and even Smith are better in the CM role. That leaves the following line-up for the next season:

    R. Tayls…S. Tayls…Kadar…Enrique

Subs: Krul, Tozer, Butt, Guthrie, Inman/Vuckic/Donaldson, Xisco, Ranger

Looking forward to seeing some youngsters in the coming year.

Anybody got any crack on all this beckford talk? Comments on previous article saying we’ve signed him on a 3-4 year deal. Any truth?

Oh, think twice, it’s just another day for Toon, Toon and me at Tannadice.

Wigaz, who knows mate, unsubstantiated internet rumours as far as I can gather.

Anyone seen the new aviva car insurance advert? It’s got Paul Whitehouse pretending to be a Plymouth fan driving all over to see them, guess which team he mentions first as a long trip?!!!

Yet another dig at us i reckon!

Bit of a mix up there with Chris and SSN but fair play, he acknowledged the fan who passed away.

The vibe I’m getting from Chris is , despite constantly saying he knows what’s going on and is being informed, I don’t really think he’s that up-to-date with the matter of affairs at NUFC regards the sale.

He kept reiterating that his job was ‘to get thee players ready for games’ and nothing more.

Didn’t give too much away but he managed to remember the full names of Tamas Kadar and Kazenga Lua Lua anyway 🙂

There’s far too much going on behind closed doors Baro, who knows what’s happening. There’s a revolving door but as yet nobody’s coming in. I don’t think we’ll sign anyone until we have a new owner/manager. Despite that, could you honestly see a player swapping Real Madrid for Championship football in sunny Newcastle?

I missed Hughton Doocey, watching Shamrock Rovers v Derry – I cancelled my Setanta subscription two months ago but I still get Setanta Ireland (?)

    …not complaining.

    Hughton knows he’s a stop-gap. I think that’s about it.

I’ve ran out of paint Tino, halfway down mi first bottle of meths now though. Soz for any negativity, I do strive towards optimism – although I’m proper barrel-scraping at the moment.

…it’s fkn shocking really. KK walking was the head-butt, JFK in was the punch in the ribs, CH and CC caretakers was a smashing knee in mouth, followed by the elbow on the skull of relegation.

Ashley started the stamping on a slumped and motionless NUFC over two months ago, and without medical attention we’re going deeper underground.

…..zippedy doodah, zippedy ay – my oh my what a wonderful day!

Still swiping at that billion dollar first aid box.

    If I could just!…………………………

I just can’t try to care right now. NUFC is such an immense cluster fork at the moment. Simply reading the blog titles makes me shake me heed. I’m starting to think that Ashley is going to simply destroy the club in the most painful way possible… to get back at the NUFC faithful.
