Newcastle United striker, 20 year-old Andy Carroll, has been selected by England at under-21 level for the first time.
Andy Carroll – U21 call up for England
This is the natural progression in the England set up for Andy, after he appeared 8 times for the England U19 side and scored 4 goals.
Carroll has been named in the squad by manager and former Newcastle full-back, Stuart Pearce, to face Holland in Groningen next Tuesday evening.
Andy has appeared 41 times for Newcastle with 14 starts and 4 goals, but it is expected that Andy could force his way into the Newcastle side as a starter this coming season in the Championship, and looked more than useful at the end of last season.
At 6’5″ tall, Carroll is more than a handful for any defense, is very good in the air, very physical in his play and an excellent holding front man.
Fabian Delph, who has signed for Aston Villa from Leeds for £8M, has also been included for the friendly – and new Chelsea striker Daniel Sturridge has also received his first call-up at under-21 level.
We expect Andy to make his debut next Tuesday for the U21 side, and will be reporting on that game.
