The momentum on selling some of our better players seems to be picking up significantly as news today that Hull City have agreed a fee with Newcastle for our experienced Senegal right back right back Habib Beye.
Habib Beye – next to leave Newcastle?
A sale has been agreed also – thought to be around £9M for Sebastien Bassong, who we expect to sign for Spurs if he can agree personal terms.
Habib Beye was always going to be the next to leave Newcastle, as he is just fed up with the nonsense going on, but don’t be surprised if Aston Villa step up their bid for the player, because we think Habib would prefer to sign for the Villa rather than Hull City.
Hull City chairman Paul Duffen today confirmed a fee has been agreed with Newcastle United for defender Habib Beye, and the 31-year-old Senegal international is expected to meet with the Hull City officials this week to discuss terms and conditions. He will probably sign if terms can be agreed.
Duffen said:
“Habib Beye is a player we believe can add quality to our squad. We are hoping to engage in conversation with him in the next couple of days,”
Beye spent four years with Marseilles before joining Newcastle in the summer of 2007 and has 35 caps for Senegal.
It will be interesting to see if Hull can match Beye’s wages on Tyneside, which are thought to be around £50K/week, because Alan Shearer wanted to keep Beye at the club, as he is an experienced player and a good leader.
But with the sale of Newcastle dragging on and on, it doesn’t look like the club will have too much choice about who stays or who goes in the summer.
It seems they will sell who they can, and as for bringing new players into the club, we have no idea if the current lot in charge at the club, will even bother to do that. It seems the club’s players are being sold to make the financial books look better for a potential sale, with no emphasis at all on building a squad for next season.
How can we buy new players when we haven’t even got a full-time manager at the club?
We’ve lost all confidence in Mike Ashley as owner of the Newcastle club, and anything he does now would hardly shock us.
If Ashley does eventually leave Newcastle he will be remembered for wrecking the once great Newcastle club, which is what he seems to have been engaged in over the last 12 months or so.
Sad indeed for such a proud and great club.
We have to hope on the bright side of things, that the transfer money, estimated to be around £20M, from the sales of Martins, Bassong and Beye with the resulting reduction in the wage bill of around another £130K/week, will make the Newcastle club more attractive to potential buyers.
We can hope for that, but we think Ashley will keep the club for another year, which would be the very worst possible outcome for the Newcastle club and its long-suffering supporters.
Surely things can only get better from this point forward.
Comments welcome.

Comment #84Ranger to come on when Ameobi tires and if we are leading maybe push Nolan back, Ranger can get a goal from nothing against a tiring defense and I think with the sheer adrenaline buzz of it he will cause them problems if he gets on, would like to see Guthrie get a run out at some point. Don’t need to worry about the physicality of it so much will the Baggies being fellow down and owts. They are a team that can play a bit though so we will have to try and keep our shape and get people back when not in posession. If we work hard though I think we will simply have to much quality going forward for their wobbly defense to deal with.

Comment #86DJG – Ameobi injured no? Otherwise he’d be in my 11 no quibbles. Nolan upfront for the first game of the season is pretty depressing… even smith – and that’s saying summit.. at least that was his twin brother’s position when he played for leeds eh.

Comment #87I dont know Ameobi has looked sharp and scored a few in pre-season and he could have fun in the championship. He has control that Carroll can only dream of and the pace of the championship will suit him. I like Carroll but on sat I would rather see Ameobi/ Ranger if im honest.

Tom Mo… Ameobi may well be useful this season.. Carroll has a role and is good at leading the line and strong in the air why not let the likes of Carroll and Ranger play their way into the side. shola – for all his faults – does score goals.. not bucket loads but I think I’m convinced he’ll bag us 20 this season if fit.

p### off the grinch would be better than Ashley. At least he is a passionate fan who has ploughed money into the academy and would put a proper management system in place attracting back supporters.

Comment #99Here is a question for everybody, spent hours talking to my family who have come up from Kent and knackered now, but this is something we discussed and I want to know what you would do. They asked me what I would spend the money on if I won the euro lottery and 60t say £120,000,000 (I don’t put it on mind so a daft question). I said if I won that much, I would buy the club for £100,000,000 of Ashley given me £20,000,000 to play with. Fly of to Dubia or UAE, find a rich oil barron and offer him the club for £10 – 20,000,000. The club would be in the hands of somebody with money and I would be set up for life wih £30 – 40,000,000. To be honest I would do it if I won £101,000,000. What would you do if you were lucky enough to be in that situation?

Comment #100Certainly buy the club and get foreign backing or someone to buy a fourth of the club.
Run it like a peoper club and get players in straight away, after appointing Shearer of course 😀

Comment #101Simon376- Sounds a good plan… Can’t argue with that! But I reckon I would try and keep to club and make the correct appointments i.e. David Dein and Shearer to get us promoted to the premier league. Then I would put the club on sale for £50 million and only sell to a buyer who is worth billions! After having sold the club I would keep 2 million and manage it and give the rest to charity!

Comment #105Lets not forget Keith Harris said on five live that the people interested in buying the club wanted players to be sold because they wanted the wage bill brought down and cash in the clubs accounts.
We’ll see what Moat is capable of when he takes over but I’m not expecting much in the way of signings out of him, he will be using the clubs money to pay off the debt he borrowed to buy us rather than putting it into any decent signings.

Comment #110Why would only Shearer be given time? If someone else gets appointed then we should stick with the team and manager through thick and thin. The club is a right mess and its not going to help if we all kick off if Shearer is not in charge.

Comment #111Don’t want to sound paranoid ,but the BBC headline saying Bassong QUITS Newcastle for Spurs, sounds a bit pointed I havn’t seen them run a headline like that for other transfers this summer. It is just a transfer between two clubs, but when it involves NUFC someone always likes to have a dig .

Comment #112this whole ‘shearer is the only one who will be given time’ thing is a complete load of bollox, any manager, that is a sensible and good choice, would be given time. I agree managers over the past 10 years haven’t been given much time, but that is because none of them were the right choice, and I would bet that not even 1% of fans wanted Souness, Gullitt, etc appointed and that is the reason they didnt get time, becuase they werent wanted in the first place.
Any manager with a decent record, who plays decent football, would be given a fair crack of the whip IMO.

Comment #114According to the legends there were 13 players on an average of £50k in the team, they have and are selling the 3 best players they have and only save £130k per week, yet this is supposed to make the club more saleable??
No-one can be this stupid, I just cannot accept anyone who owns a business ie Ashley and anyone who manages a business ie Lambias are this thick.
It isnt just the price of the business it is paying the bills once someone owns it.
As many of the players who are no good should have gone and Ashley should have paid to get rid of them, that would add value to the club, especially if he could lose a liability such as Xisco who has an £8m plus contract for £3-4m and so on through the no good players, then replace them with championship players either from the rserves or bought in.
That makes the club saleable, if he lost £20-40m in player liabilities that would make the club more attractive not selling the silver.
Selling Martins for example for £9m simply means £9m in and £9m off the club’s value, saving £35k per week (the difference between his wage and a not so good as him, but very good championship striker) is small fry when there are another 12 taking big wage packets and only4 or so of them are any use.
They must have a plan, they must want the conference rooms and a bit of the stand turned in to a Casino, there must be something going on, they cannot be trying to make a go of this.
Anyone by now would have got some professional help at board level to run the club, this sale thing must be smokescreen.

As usual the article is full of ‘we understand’ and ‘sources’ which means that its normally bo****ks …
But if MA is going to take the club of the market … then (and it pains me to say it) … for gods sake do it now …
At least then he will be able to create a bit of stability in appointing a manager … who will then be able to sell the players he wants … and … to get rid of some of the over paid losers on the books
This will mean that we can plan for the up coming season … what we don’t want is this decision ‘not’ to sell the club … a few days before the season starts or the transfer window closes …
the 1st game is tomorrow … we need MA to get his finger out and make a decision … one way or the other …

Comment #120I just don’t get Ashley at all.
Reports now saying no deal for the club will go through due to Ashley’s stubborness.
If he is taking it off the market why the hell would he appoint Kinnear over Shearer?
Surely even if Shearer’s demands were more than Kinnear, Shearer’s appointment would get season tickets moving and some hope and belief around the place.
It all comes back to Shepherd with all the unsustainable debt and the lack of a wage cap / ceiling and look how we are paying for that now!!!
