David O’Leary Turns Down Newcastle Manager Job

David O’Leary has revealed in the Daily Mail today that he has turned down a two year contract at Newcastle to manage the club.

David O’Leary – the latest to turn down Newcastle?

This news comes after it appears that Mike Ashley may now want to keep the Tyneside club, as he has had no offers close to the £100M price he is looking for.

The news comes after yesterday’s blaze of news from former manager Joe Kinnear, suggesting he had been offered the job for two years , but had to turn it down for medical reasons.

However, this morning Joe is now saying he could be ready in a month, rather than the 3 months he talked about yesterday.

It would appear that O’Leary was just nor interested in joining the Ashley circus going on at Newcastle right now.

After waiting 10 weeks with no manager, Ashley is now seemingly scrambling to get a manager in place as soon as possible.

You could never accuse Mike of being organized, or thinking things through fully, and of course he doesn’t know the first thing about what it takes to run a football club.

Apart from those deficiencies he’s been a great owner for the Tyneside club.

The sooner this man gets out of Toon,  the sooner we can start rebuilding the club, and bring some much needed respect back to St. James’ Park.

Comments welcome.

Unbelievable, Shearer needs to come back to England and hang one on Lambias and Ashely for their deceitful conduct, they have no shame, dignity or credibility whatsoever

Alternatively the Daily Mail thought of the next worst candidate after Kinnear and and threw this story out to heap more misery upon us. It’s strange that these details only come out the day of Kinnear’s revelations, and there there are no direct quotes associated to it. Looks like mischief making to me.

Anyone who thinks that the Money goes to Ashley is a Fu@kin% idiot!!!

the players are assets and are on the books, they add to the value of the club.

money from transfers will just become CASH on the balance sheet rather than “expected value” and this is more attractive to potential investors, as it shows money can be generated from player sales and its not just perceived value.

WAKE UP!!! Its a huge business, its not like they deliver briefcases of cash and mike keeps it under his mattress.

Enough with the money in ashleys pockets thing for goodness sake!!!

sirjasontoon – Moat is a multimillionaire with an impressive portfolio but no way near as large as Ashleys.

What he does have is a backing from the USA and a very sharp business mind and the love of the club which to me is more important than anything.

Please, please, please let the news be true!

    This is the Chron’s exclusive…

Intriguingly Mr Moat’s secretary said today at Lugano Property Group headquarters in Melbourne Street, Newcastle he was “unavailable” because he was in London.

No they didn’t – they just said he was “unavailable”. He could have been taking a dump down the hall for all they know.

    according to the chronicle:
Mr Moat lives in Jesmond, near to former chairman Freddy Shepherd. The home is surrounded by manicured gardens with black wrought-iron gates and a sophisticated security system.

    how nice.

AussieToon @ 5 – yeah, I was beginning to get that same good feeling too

I noticed that the Telegraph story said ‘Sebastien Bassong could depart as early as today, with Tottenham favourites to secure his signature for around £10m, and there is a chance of at least one other departure’

and the Mail reported ‘Ashley is hoping to sell several players before the weekend, with Tottenham believed to be prepared to make an improved offer for French defender Sebastien Bassong after a £10m bid was turned down this week. Aston Villa want Senegal defender Habib Beye, and Wolves are chasing midfielder Nicky Butt..’
    http://www.dailymail.co.uk/sport/football/article-1204649/EXCLUSIVE-Newcastle-plummet-new-depths-OLeary-turns-managers-job.html

so the stories seem to be consistent. I just hope and pray that one of the other departures is Nicky Butt, and not Habib Beye

@roscoe – of course the money can goto Ashley – he can use any money received from club assets to pay the clubs loan of 100 million , which is of course to himself!

O’Leary story is a load of cobblers, he’s just using toon to promote the fact he’s still available for a job!

Carefull what you wish for !
Anyone but MA is it ?
The only criteria for ownership should be
    (a) Lotta spare dosh.
    (b) Appoint a David Dien type to run the club.
    (c) Appoint a manager with a track record, no messiahs please.
    Would O`Leary make a good manager ?
I personally dislike the man, believe him to be dihonest.
In fairness for a while when Leeds were the Man. Citeh of their time, he built a decent side, but when at Villa with limited funds, proved to be
    barely adequate.
Now if M.O`N were to take the job that`s another storey, building a nice side at Villa.
It`s a sad state of affairs when a club with the third highest attendance in the EPL is rendered allmost insolvent by a combination of greed and ignorance from ownership past and present.
The question is, like the economic reccession, when will things bottom out ?

so ashley thinks you can appoint a manager every six months and if it doesnt work out, eh doesnt matter coz u can just appoint another?!?!?!

THIS IS BEYOND A JOKE NOW, THE PREDICAMENT IS SORTED OUT THRU COMMON SENSE, YOU GET A MANAGER WHO WILL BE A LEADER IN ALAN SHEARER AS THE BOARD ARE NOWHERE NEAR BEING LEADERS AND YOU GIVE HIM FULL CONTROL AND LEAVE HIM TO IT

DO NOT REAPPOINT JOE FxxxING KINNEAR, OR I WILL PERSONALLY GO ON A KILLING SPREE. joking BUT SERIOUSLY, IT AINT THAT HARD!!!!!!

if i was shearer, i’d just turn up and if they try to turf him out, just sit in. everyone wants him, its his rightful place, so he should ignore the heirachy and go and do one for the town, the region, the players and the fans and just turn up and not leave
