There were rumors before the game thaere had been an altercation between Joey Barton and our two Argentine players, Coloccini and Guriterrez.
Joey Barton – no problems yesterday according to spokeman
The flare-up was said to be about the commitment of the two South Americans to the Newcastle cause, and if we were to be honest we have that doubt about the two of them too.
Although yesterday they both did their best with Coloccini given a tough time by the impressive 17 year old New Zealand striker Chris Wood, and Gutierrez looked good on the left, where he works well with Enrique, but he has to improve his final ball to be more effective.
But today it appears that Barton has done little to warrant the negative headlines of yesterday and today.
Barton’s personal spokesman Paul Tyrrell said:
“There was no disagreement between Joey Barton and any other player prior to the West Brom game,”
“He totally accepted Chris Hughton’s decision to put him on the bench for tactical reasons yesterday and gave a typically committed performance when he came on as a substitute.”
“Joey is firmly focused on getting Newcastle back to where it belongs – the Premier League.”
It must have been tough for Joey to be benched, but it seems like it was a tactical move by Chris to get more power up front. And we’d like to think that Joey will be a big player for us this season, if he does stay at the club.
He certainly looked good in the last 15 minutes and put in a perfect free kick late in the game from which Kevin Nolan should have scored, and Kevin knew it.
We are certainly willing to forget this in the interests of the club, and a possible good run in the league. We have to admit we were pleasantly surprised at the team’s fighting display yesterday, and we have to hope that signals much better things to come this season.
Alan Smith was just great in midfield and ran miles yesterday and won the ball often for the Magpies – a captain’s display by Alan yesteray and we have to hope for more of the same from the Yorkshireman this season.
We’re not getting carried away with one game, but after all the negativity this summer it was a good game to watch and a decent result for the team.

Comment #43Anyone think Sol Campbell may actually be waiting for us to make him an offer?
I find it strange he hasn’t gone anywhere yet and i’m sure he won’t have been short on offers.

Comment #44Tino@41, I suppose it could just be the shape of his heed, and hair-type that inhibits creative personal grooming?
Re: Sol Campbell, I’m trying not to go down the player speculation route, tbh I’d given up on that one about 6 weeks ago.
…finding it really difficult to think about anything other than potential buyers and managers, and I’m starting to give up on that one now too. I can only imagine what must be going through the players’ heeds.
(although they all have walloping wage packets to take their minds off it a little)

It amazes me how many papers run the same story over and over again and pretend it is new news.

I understand (although i don’t agree) with the club not telling us much about what is going on with the sale etc, but when you don’t communicate with the players who will make or break the club, it just makes the whole board look like a bunch of idiots.

Comment #51Tino@45, the Daily Mail love a bit of typographical vomit. As for Martins, of course every player leaving is gona tell it how it is. Regarding the board looking like idiots, there’s one man and one man only responsible for that.
…sorry , make that two.

Comment #55Well they didn’t show anythin’ to suggest that yesterday!..
…We had all the possession, any class on offer…
…They were generally employin’ long ball tactics & relyin’ on set pieces, typical lower league football (& i use the word advisedly)…
…Typical media bollox, we’ve decided this guy is good & we’re stickin’ with him…a la, keane etc…
…Sigh!..

“He called us, the newcastle fans, VICIOUS!”
Newcastle fans ARE vicious Tino, Being a former Valencia cf season ticket holder i know vicious fans and are very own toon fans are very much that. When me and my girlfriend came over to Newcastle to see the Chelsea match she couldnt believe how intimidating and ruthless the fans were after me telling her how Newcastle have the best supporters in the world. Of course you would defend our own supporters but im telling you the real truth.

Comment #58….all football clubs have vicious fans. As all cities have saints and murderers – it’s the Mayor’s responsibility to lay down the law. We currently have no Mayor, only a ‘mare.
Btw, Toon_Factor, you’re always talking about ‘the missus’, it’s getting quite tiring.

Comment #75Pathetic story. He has a personal spokesman. Too stupid to talk for himself.
As for being the best player, you have to be kidding. He’s the biggest liability on the books on and off the pitch. We have another couple on the pitch as well. He really should have been sacked 18 months ago.
