It seems that Jonas Gutierrez would love the chance to move to Greek champions Olympiakos. In fact the truth is he’d love to move to any club, as long as he can get out of Newcastle.
Jonas Gutierrez – wanted by Olympiakas
That’s the sad truth we think with Jonas, but he is expendable and we have others in the squad, like young Kazenga LuLua for one, who can be bought in and do just as good a job as Jonas in the Newcastle side.
Hopefully we’ll be able to recoup the £5M we paid Real Mallorca for him 12 months ago, and it will also help to get his wages off the Newcastle wage bill.
It seems the Argentine International’s representatives have been approached by Olympiakos about a possible move.
Gutierrez has failed to live up to expectations on Tyneside and his big failure is twofold – his inability to score goals, and his final pass is not what it could or should be.
Jonas told the Greek site Sportday today:
“On Thursday my agent called me and told me about the interest of Olympiakos,” “He told me that he received a call from Olympiakos’ people, who asked him if I wanted to play for them.”
“I told my agent that I wouldn’t say no to Olympiakos if they are going to make a good offer to me.”
“Of course, everything depends on Newcastle. I have four more years contract with the English club and Olympiakos must agree with them first of all.”
“My agent told me that the upcoming week is going to be crucial. He is expecting a new contact with Olympiakos on Monday.” “I know about Olympiakos and that they are a huge club. They are the Boca Juniors or the River Plate of Greece.”
“For me is a big challenge to play the Champions League. I have a lot of energy in me and I want to make a fantastic season in order to be with my national team in South Africa for the World Cup.”
“I want to leave Newcastle and go to a club which will give me the chance to fight for this place in my national team.” “I believe if I play well in the Champions League then Maradona is going to take a look at me.”
At least Jonas is being honest when he says he wants to leave Newcastle, so he can cement a place in the Argentine squad for next summer in the World Cup in South Africa, and we cannot blame the lad for that.
Certainly Jonas and his Argentine team-mate Fabricio Coloccini are expendable at Newcastle, and we expect both of them to be on their way come September, maybe with at least one of them out on loan for the season.
We’d like to be talking about potential new players being recruited by Newcastle for the promotion push, but until Ashley releases his stranglehold on the club, we cannot even talk about that, and we have no idea who is even available right now.
Certainly all of Alan Shearer’s 7 targets of last May have now apparently joined other clubs.

I think everybody agrees he needs work on final balls, but I guess what you’re saying is that with good runners supporting him, he’d seem much more effective, right?
I think that nails it–part of the problem is his passing but the other part is his surrounding players. One or both have got to improve.
It’ annoying because he routinely burns defenders. Then… nothing happens.

Comment #82FSOTC yeah mate i do admit that his final ball needs working on and a goal would probably do his confidence a world of good too but people have to remember that was his 1st season in the epl, I think we are all to quick at running the players down but thats the nature of the beast.

Comment #83Agree with Stardust at post 10.
…but then again, I know nothing about football.
Honestly believe he’ll do well at a better club, with better team-mates. He’s under contract, but for now though, if he wants to leave I can’t see a managerless NUFC under a frenzied asset-stripping Ashley wanting to keep hold of him.
There better be a plan in place or we’ll be playing our reserves before long. This is all just too mental to believe – there MUST be light…………..

Comment #84I remember when he first signed Keegan was heaping praise on him , He actually said this lad could play through the middle , so why does CH not give him a run through the middle , i think as CM he might just be that bit of creativity we are missing . When Keegan sees something in him and a certain Maradonna picks him he must have something in his game .

Comment #85Rodzilla–I think by now it’s clear there’s no plan in place. I wish it were otherwise, but Ashley doesn’t have a clue what he’s doing or what he should do, fughing clown that he is.
I like the idea of playing Jonas through the middle. He can beat a man or two, but can he lay off passes once he’s in striking range?
I’ve thought of that for Duff too, now that his pace is gone. One good thing I’ve noticed about the Duffer is that he rarely looses the ball.
Duff just behind the strikers, with wingers running on either side, that could work out well. Dunno…
Duff used to be a good crosser of the ball. I think Mourinho crushed that out of him and turned him into this “hold the ball” type of player we see now.
That’s why he’s always making lateral and back passes, maybe.

Comment #90Down fall of the club was started by Sir John Hall and Freddy Shepherd, Took their profits from it by firstly Sir John Hall selling his shares & Shepherd making huge profit. Shepherd got it wrong with his choice of managers & bought in small percentage of good player.
Then downward trend & demise of the club selling it to Mike Ashley, If he’s business man how on earth why he didn’t he get expert do his sums over the financial side of the club.
But his biggest mistake was employing the Wise London Mafia. Then take all buying & selling off Kevin Keegan.
Just look & judge the quality of the players they brought in & the good player allowed to be sold.
Now Jonas Gutierrez, wants to be away, there’s no doubt he’s skilful but no end product although having said that half the time he’s nobody to pass it to. I prefer Guthrie in mid field to Nolan he’s to slow & his best years are behind him; like few more players we have
Still the need to depart with two worst player in the team Coloccini & Shola. They both are liability.
