Hughton – Alan Smith Was Excellent At West Brom

Well it looks like gritty Alan Smith will again be the captain for the first home game of the season against Reading on Saturday, with the game starting with a strange 5:20 pm kick off time.

Alan Smith – captain again against Reading – good

It looks like Nicky Butt, who required hand surgery after dislocating his thumb at Darlington last month, will not be risked given the type of injury he has.

Butt has returned to light training though, so that’s good but Chris Hughton explained:

“We do not want to bring him back too soon.”

“It is the type of injury which, if we brought him back too early, he could end up fracturing it again.”

“The home game with Reading is certainly too early for him.”

That means Alan Smith will lead out the team on Saturday and he’s likely to get a good reception after putting in a wonderful 90 minutes of grit and guts on Saturday, and the lad certainly led the team by example.

We’ve never been a big fan of Smith’s since he’;s hardly approached his top form at Newcastle, but this type of performance and attitude is just exactly what the team needs and we hope Alan can keep supplying that.

And Hughton added some deserved praise for the Yorkshireman too:

“Alan will again be captain.” “I must say I thought he was excellent at West Brom and led by example with his desire and commitment.”

“But that’s what you get from Alan and that’s why he has been captain in the absence of Nicky.”

In fact some of the players who took us down have a chance during August to show they can fight when it really matters, and we’ll be looking for another fighting display from them on Saturday, but we need to get those 3 points as well.

Then we’ll be nicely positioned after a couple of games, and things may even start to look up.

The Newcastle fans certainly deserve some good news about the team very soon.

Comments welcome.

Well Smith’s earned a weeks wage at long last, what about the other 100 or so weeks of rubbish. I do remember a good display against Arsenal once though.

He seems more suited to the pace of the CCC and his mistimed tackles are now better timed because of the slower pace of the game but long may it continue aslong as he’s still here. Stll his wage is far too much imo.

Does this praise mean Hughton actually rates him or he’s actually bigging him up for a possible transfer?

20 days to go until the transfer window slams shut on Ashleys fat little fingers and not even a whisper of who we might even bring in.

If Ashley stays. I reckon August 31st we’ll all be on the BBC transfer text updates waiting to hear who we’re signing and then we’ll get a couple of kids on loan from the premiership and a couple of journeymen who will be here for the money. I used to be so optimistic – now I’m just depressed.

Looks like there will be a massive downfall with playing our good young players this season.

If they play well they get snapped up by premier league club.

Krul is already being scouted by several teams.

Looks like there is more than an elimant of truth in the O’leary rumours.

    I don’t actually have a problem with O’leary, I think he’s done ok where he’s been.

The problem is and this is a big problem that he will have absolutely NO MONEY to spend and players will be leaving. That will put us in aother relegation battle!

Happy with Dermot not happy with the owner.

Ashley has been incapable of stringing two good decisions together and the outcome has been utterly destructive.

He arrived preaching the long-term and then sacked Sam Allardyce.

He tapped into Newcastle’s emotions by appointing Kevin Keegan and then tied his hands together.

He recognised the need to have a football department, but chose Dennis Wise to lead it.

He accepted reality last autumn and decided to sell the club. But Joe Kinnear as an interim manager?

He took the club off the market, promised to communicate more with supporters and then did nothing of the sort.

He vowed to run a dangerously spendthrift club on a sound financial footing, but made a profit in the transfer market when the team was in dire need of strengthening.

Finally, he brought in Shearer, who could do little to prevent Newcastle’s slide into the Coca Cola Championship, but restored discipline to the training-ground, provided a link with fans and reviewed of all playing matters at the club.

Ashley admitted his mistakes and said that hiring Shearer was his “best decision”.

He then ignored him, putting out the for sale signs, not wishing to leave new owners in the same position he inherited. It has been a compendium of disaster.

Perfectly put. Looks worse in writing.

Any response from any Ashley lovers?

Smith and Barton could provide a very good midfield……championship level.

Not sure where it levels Guthrie, Butt and Nolan?

Typical we are packed to the rafters with central midfielders……but limited defenders, few wingers and the strikers, dare i mention them!

Not to worry i’m sure Ashley will sell Smith and Barton soon, solving our ‘selection dilemma’ we have !

Guthrie played quite well at right midfield vs Boro, maybe if Jonas leaves he can play there.

And someaday Tim don’t do that good, anyone said he’s overrate. — — ” I think he has potential but not as good as praise he got now.

Another day passed without any progress. But if Ashley decide to stay and appoint manager, I think it’s time to give up to support the Toon, It’s too much hurt.

I don’t have any problem with new manager. Although there no room for Shearer but I just cannot accept to see Fat XXX BasXXXX CAshley to be our owner for this season.

Alan Smith was decent on Saturday. He showed some fight and desire. I hope he stays fit. I would have before Butt anyday. I hope he carries his form all season. Just feel though when Butt comes back he will play! I think Jonas will be off soon.

    So I would have.

    Guthrie-Barton-Smith-Duff

    Fairly decent.

Does anyone know much about tommy smith. Watford need to sell him. Scored 17 goals last season in a struggling team. Might be worth a shout, if we can ever sort ourselves out. We need a goalscorer in.

RE the krul story-Arsenal is the only club that he should even consider joining out of that list like. He’d be aswell staying with us if it was any of the other teams seriously interested in him. Stuff like this was always gonna appear though and i dont think he’ll leave if im honest. Wasnt there apparently interest being shown in Carroll a few days ago aswell? West Ham or something?

Ryan-not a chance i dont think. He seems to be one of the very few players within world football today that still plays football for the love of the game and to better himself as a player, not for cash. They tried it with Kaka and he said no deal, i can see Messi being even quicker to do so, should interest become official. Keep in mind its all just media stuff at the moment like.

Waddles-fair enough, he’s getting on a bit but i’d take him like, i’d take him over Colo which is saying something. Add that to the fact he’d provide some experinence and guidance for the likes of Kadar and i think he’d be a good signing, considering he’d be a free.

Marca and real madrid have a very good relationship,
When ever real want a player they use marca to run the story over and over to turn the players head.
Thats what they done for ronaldo for nearly 2 seasons.
