Newcastle Interest in Watford’s Williamson And Spurs’ Livermore

The Evening Chronicle is reporting that Chris Hughton is now looking at £1.5m-rated Watford central defender Mike Williamson to bolster Newcastle’s depleted squad.

Mike Williamson – Newcastle interested in Watford center-back

Newcastle are down to 18 senior players following the departures of Beye, Sebastien Bassong and Obafemi Martins, while out-of-contract players Michael Owen, Mark Viduka, David Edgar and Peter Lovenkrands have also left.

And the Chronicle is reporting there could be at least another four departures before the summer transfer window shuts on September 1st.

Mike Williamson is a 6’3″ center-back who was born in Stoke on Trent, and is now 25 years old.   He played for Wycombe Wanderers from 2005-2009 a total of 144 times with 11 goals.

After consistent seasons at Wycombe he signed for Watford on 26th January this year for an undisclosed fee, signing a three-and-a-half year contract.

jake livermore

Jake Livermore – scoring leveler against Barcelona at Wembley last month

News today that Hughton is also considering bringing in 6’2″ Spurs defender/midfielder  Jake Livermore in on a loan deal, to help bolster his options in defense. Of course this may also be because Newcastle may be willing to cash in on local boy Steven Taylor.

Everton are said to be preparing a £8M bid for the local boy.

Livermore signed a new two-year deal with Tottenham last month, and he joined Derby County on a one month loan deal only last week.

We were told recently that when Sebastien Bassong went to Spurs last week Newcastle had the option of signing a couple of Spurs’ youngsters on loan, and it seems Jake could be one of those.

We’d like to see at least 5 new players brought in before the end of the month, and of course we want quality signings, whether they are on loan or not.

At this point that doesn’t really matter.

Comments welcome.

    Now let’s see:

    Smith’s a Watford player?

    Williamson ditto?

Who seemed to be at Watford’s matches a lot last season?

Who’s still drawing a salary although not with the club?

Could these moves be covered with Wise’s dirty little paw marks all over them?

And yes Ed, I agree we’re not buyin CD cover but readying for Taylor’s move out.

    An absolute disgrace

    Don’t want either, thanks.

As for Livermore, he’s just joined Derby in a loan move.

SSN are reporting that O’leary is no longer in the running to be the new boss.

Well it looks like the sale is off and were going to end up with JFK.

He’s the only sad fcker who will work for this prick under any circumstances!

Rangerman, what is Williamson like? Which premier league player would be comparable to a guy like Williamson?

I have said before we need big bodied no nonsense defenders, just as Boro have Huth and Wheater we need guys like that in this league will always do well. Is Williamson around the same type as these two?

Is also the rumors true that these are all Shearers targets? Simpson, Smith, Williamson, Livermore and the two Norwegians?

Am I just living in hope lol….

I hope that you right Aussie. If Shearer is picking them then I would have more faith in them.
Danny Simpson is a good player but I don’t know much about the others.

Mike Williamson is a brilliant player…. well its better than having *Ronald Mcdonald in defence!

Danny Simpson is also another good player who will definitley improve our defence.

We should have DEFINITLEY got Kyle Walker on loan before he went back to Sheff Utd because he is AMAZING, was on loan to us at Northampton for a bit last season and his just pure class….another one we’ve missed out on!

*Colloccini for those who were wondering =)

Rangerman – thanks for that exactly what we need!!!

I have another question. If not Shearer, who else would be able to find guys like Williamson and Simpson and the like? Hughton? I think not….

Maybe it is Shearer after all, what do you think? The calm before the storm?

Tino, chucking a meat pie at Ashley would please him, no alibi needed other than to the Toon fans. Unless of course it was stale with rotten meat, although no, on thinking about he would probably still be pleased.
