Newcastle Sign Danny Simpson On Loan

News on the official web-site today that Newcastle have signed 22 year old right back Danny Simpson on loan from Manchester United.

Danny Simpson 123

Danny Simpson – while on loan at Blackburn last season

The 22-year-old joins the Magpies until January and will wear squad No.12. This is a loan deal until January, but if Danny does well it can be extended for the full season.

Danny started his career at the Red Devils in 2006 and has been on loan to multiple clubs, including Sunderland in 2007.

Danny is thought to have been on the list of players Shearer was interested in bringing to Newcastle, and we have to think this is a good signing for the club.

We are short at full-back on both sides, and it wouldn’t surprise us if a left-back is also brought in for the season, whether on loan or full time.

This is Newcastle’s first signing for the summer, and we hope it is one of many quality signings before the end of August, so we can mount a challenge for promotion back to the Premier League.

Danny is 5’9″ tall and was born in Salford, England, and has played around 65 first class games in his career.

He will be a welcome addition to the squad and is an accomplished right back who played 14 times for Sunderland in 2007. His most recent loan was to Blackburn where he played 12 times this year.

In fact Newcastle seems like a good bet for a loan spell for young players at top Premier League clubs this season, and we shouldn’t be finished with our loan signings.

It will be interesting to see if Danny makes his debut tomorrow against Reading, as we think he’s a more accomplished right-back that our current player in that position, Ryan Taylor.

Comments welcome.

Conspiracy theory number 217, he’s signed on loan only until January because the club will come off the market this week and go back on again in January.

Actually I find it quite sickening that we are reduced to getting loan signings from the likes of ManU, don’t care how good he might turn out.

    I think something is happening.

For the last 4 weeks I’ve been e-mailing Seymour Pierce asking what the hell is going on and everytime I’ve had a reply within 10 mins from Susan Rutherford saying the sales process is on going and they can’t put a time frame on it.

    I haven’t had a reply so far today and it’s been about 2 hours……..

I am sure he will start there ahead of R.Taylor allowing him to move to the right, then duff/jonas on the left. Extra midfield and defensive cover in 1 signing with regards to R.taylor. Assuming we dont get rid of duff.

What do we know about him? Ed – you’ve not even said what position he plays!

Anyway, this is very, very good news on two fronts:

    1. Willingness to finally get on with the job
    2. Chink of hope that they’ve got these deals lined up from way back and are following some of Big Al’s recommendations.

    I’m happier. A bit.

Danny is a good player. Tough in the tackle and good on the ball.

As Bill F says it doesn’t look good does it? Selling our first team squad and bringing in Lonee’s. Add to this the two supposedly coming from Spurs and at this rate there won’t be any players actually owned by the club by the end of the transfer window.

Ah – and one other positive thing: loan signings make total sense IF you’re still hopeful of a sale.

They don’t change the value of the club; they just increase the chances of good results.

Can anyone think of anything BAD about this development?

Perhaps there will be several like this? Gawd, I hope so…

    From ManU web site:

Salford-born defender Danny Simpson has represented United at all levels since signing with the Reds’ Academy in July 2003.

The robust, tough-tackling full-back can play anywhere across the back, but has settled as a right-back in recent years, having honed his position during a host of successful loan deals.

‘Simmo’, as he is known around Carrington, climbed through the club’s youth ranks and represented Paul McGuinness’ under-18s before gradually establishing himself in the Reds’ successful Reserves team, playing a part in the 2004/05 quadruple and the 2005/06 treble triumphs.

Danny’s form earned him a loan move to Royal Antwerp in January 2006, where his impressive displays yielded a spot on the club’s 2006/07 pre-season tour of South Africa. With the route to senior opportunities still blocked by Gary Neville and Wes Brown, however, he rejoined Antwerp for another loan deal.

After returning in December 2006, Danny and team-mate Jonny Evans were snapped up to temporarily aid Roy Keane’s Sunderland in their push for the Premier League. Having played an integral role in taking the Black Cats up, Simmo was handed a United first team debut in September 2007.

I remember Keit Harris said in his radio interview that some players would leave and 1 or 2 would come in before any sale would happen.

Dunno though I just look at the negatives but can you blame me?

Bill – your comment about selling the 1st team and getting loanees…

    1. Surely the sale of all the “over-paid-under-performers” was exactly what we were clamouring for at the end of last season?

    2. This is the championship. We have to get our wage bill down, so of course we have to sell the likes of Duff. How else are we going to stay afloat?

    3. Loanees are the only signings that make sense. They strengthen the squad, often give us options to sign permanently later if they do well, they don’t increase the club’s debt, and they don’t get in the way of club sales.

Honestly – I think this is really good news…. as long as there are several others coming.
