Things are looking bleak right now for the Newcastle club, as it looks like Mike Ashley will probably stay and appoint Joe Kinnear as manager.
Newcastle United – we at least still have the fans
So there’s not a lot of good news right now, and it looks like we’ll lose Damien Duff to Fulham and possibly other top wage earners at the club, before the month is out.
One thing that can lift the doom and gloom is a win today against Reading, and wins always help in any situation.
And we still have the fans, who will no doubt be there today in their thousands urging on the players, who we hope will give another guts and glory display – but this time for the full 90 minutes.
And Chris Hughton – a real gentleman through all of the problems and nonsense of the summer, has rightly hailed the Newcastle fans.
“The fans here are so passionate about their team and, for me, it is a privilege to be able to lead them into the season.”
“We just hope to get the best start possible. We were happy enough with a point at West Brom but our aim is definitely all three against Reading.”
“I think we’re expecting a crowd of 30,000 plus on Saturday and that is terrific.” “It will be a huge boost for everyone and myself and the players are desperate to give them something to shout about.
“We can’t thank them enough for their support this summer, they have been magnificent.”
Good words from Chris and we hope the players will be inspired enough today to both play well and get all 3 points against Reading.
Then we’ll at least have something to be happy about tonight
