Not surprisingly Chris Hughton has praised hat-trick hero Shola Ameobi after his three goals in Saturday’s 3-0 Newcastle victory over Reading.
Shola Ameobi – hat trick hero
The Geordie striker, who was born in Nigeria and moved to England when he was 5 years old, scored with two headers each side of half time, before easily scoring from the penalty spot, to complete his first senior hat-trick for Newcastle United, at St. James’ Park tonight.
Newcastle is the only club Shola has ever been at, and we’re hoping he will come good this season in the Championship.
And afterwards a delighted stand-in boss Chris Hughton said:
“He is a local lad and for any striker to come away with a match-ball is always a very, very proud moment for them.”
“The fact that he is doing it here at St James’ Park just adds to it for him.”
“His headers were two very good goals and I don’t think anyone was taking the ball off him for the penalty!”
“I’m delighted for him because he’s a hard worker and a great lad.”
“Let’s hope he gets another hat-trick against Sheff Wed on Wednesday!”
Shola is the Toast of the Toon tonight, and the lad deserves to be, for scoring three good goals.
We need to see goals from Shola this season, if we are to do well, and today was a great home start, both for Shola and the team.
Now we need another 3 points against Sheffield Wednesday on Wednesday night, as Chris points out, KO is 7:45 pm.
Comments welcome.

come on lads i thought yous were more intelligent than that
it could be the truth im not completely gonna say its not
but if you have went to a match before
steven taylor is always seen the last one to go down the tunnel and the last player to clap the fans
so im not believing a quote like that and i dont think most of you should
lets just celebrate our win!
plus moyes has denied it many times!! lescott is staying

Comment #7if you look closely you will see that Lescott had a citeh shirt on underneath his toffees one.
I think if we get a bit of stability this week Barry M/Shearer, Tayls will say he wants to stay if we do get offers for him – he has a connection not like the french and nigerians

Campbell claim
Watching Newcastle’s home victory on Saturday evening from the Milburn stand was defender Sol Campbell.
The 34 year-old free agent signed autographs for supporters and said that he was hopeful of securing a playing contract at the Magpies over the coming days.

Anyone know if there is any truth in this?

s.taylor would not just give a ”goodbye look” anyway he would have told the fans that he was contemplating leaving before
he wouldnt leave newcastle like that
leaving st james’ park like that would be a nightmare for him
and how did nufc.com see this ”goodbye look” how were they that close to the pitch…. i thought the people who run the site were from london….

Comment #17was anyone else slightly worried about lua lua’s sub appearance, he gave the ball away alot and messed around with just to the side of our own box conceding a corner, i know he was only on for a few mins but with jonea now maybe the next to go, we”ll probably be depending on jonas to fill the gap unles we decide to play 4 c.m. accross the midfield with either guthrie, geremi or butt which would be ridiculous….every successful modern football team needs good pacy wingers

Comment #33Lastest from the mail. I think like most, they are taking something from the fact that Ashley and Moat sat together at the game last night. No real new info like quotes etc but i guess we’ll all know either way by Thursday

thanks for that, i might be able to stream it of the net if i can’t find a pub, i had a great day at st james yesterday, and what a start for us, if this is what they are like without a manager and with all the turmoil hopefully they will just get better and better once it’s all sorted out “hopefully this week”
well done yesterday lads if any of you read this, a cracking win, don’t let the Fat bast*rds grind you down

Comment #35Shola made me eat my words yesterday and he finally showed what he is capable of, i was so pleased for him but he needs to be consistent. He has the size to dominate most defences, would like to see a smaller quicker forward up front as he and Carroll at times cancel each other out. We are going to have to build the squad up as we are at a dangerous level with no cover in most positions.

Comment #38yes i agree we probably need another 6-7 players in to give reasonable cover, but i cannot see that happening i think we might at a push get 3 or 4 more but there might be another 1 or 2 still on there way out, imo i didn’t think colo had the worst game for us i’ve ever seen but he is a massive liability and need to get shot of him very soon, even if it means taking a massive loss on the 10 mill we paid i’d be quite happy to get rid for 1 mill as long as he was gone, jonas i still like and think he would do ok for us (needs to improve his crossing though!!)
