Is Andy O’Brien Coming Back To Newcastle?

There is news in the Daily Mirror this morning, that Newcastle may want to bring back Bolton’s 30 year-old 6’3″ center-back Andy O’Brien back to Newcastle.

andy o'brien 123

Andy O’Brien – headed back to Tyneside?

Andy, born in Harrogate, Yorkshire, was on Tyneside from 2000 until 2005, and was brought in by the great Bobby Robson from Bradford City.

While Andy wasn’t the greatest center-back in the world, he was very consistent and always gave 100%, and since he left Newcastle in 2005 he’s played two seasons at at Portsmouth and has had a couple of years at Bolton Wanderers.

Over the last two seasons Andy has appeared 78 times for Bolton and is a stalwart in their defense. He is currently mulling over whether to sign a new contract at Bolton.

If Andy comes back to Newcastle, we think he’d be a good buy, and could provide some good defensive cover in central defense for the club.

There would be no doubts with Andy that he would always give of his best, and his fighting attitude and spirit would also help in the dressing room.

Andy played over 165 times for Newcastle in his 5 year stint at the club, when we finished 4th, 3rd and 5th in successive seasons in the Premier League, under the great man.

We have no idea if this rumor is true of course, but it’s intriguing, and we think he could be a decent addition to our defense.

Andy played once for the England U21 side and played 26 times for Ireland, and last year retired from International football.

Comments welcome.

    Screech!

…canny lad. Hard worker, made plenty of mistakes mind. but at the minute we’re DESPERATE for defensive cover and, seemingly, beggars can’t be choosers.

He’d be alreet for nowt, or next to, and may cope OK in the Championship as he’s a battler and not scared to get stuck in – but this is the Daily Mi**or we’re talking about.

spiderpig, you beat me to it with the “beggars cant be choosers” bit. You’re right though. Cover is cover, and we’re in dire need at the moment.

ed, this site has turned into an absolute waste of time as everything that is written on here is utterly pointless,

if its not too many articles a day, its regurgitated 9 out of 10 of the previous days articles,

it has nothing but morons on here now doing nothing but arguing or slagging each other off or talking about anal sex!

the amount of traffic you get through this site, there is absolutely no need to have to have those stupid new page adverts interfering with your reading, you get more than enough traffic to have normal ads on here

i have been coming on here for a few years now, chipping in with comments, very seldom lately tho due to the pr1cks that now frequent this site, i have since found better, more informative, and better laid out blogs than this, i suggest you have a look out there at a few of them ed as this one has lost everything it once had

there is no need to have 10 articles in a day, repeating half the stuff you have already wrote about or the same comments getting written on each one cos peeople dont know which one to write on

this blog is like NUFC, it has lost its way and is being followed by complete morons who havent got a clue what they are on about, i bid you good luck ed, and goodbye

Although he hasn’t been a star in the EPL for Bolton he has been pretty solid for them, he might be a bit slow but he takes some getting around and is good in the air. So all things considered could be a decent addition to a very small squad, still would like to see Sol come in as well though.

I mean we should go for some youngster or decent egnlish defender in CCC. We can get them if we’re serious enough but at this point I don’t think so.

Terry !? how can you think that ?

What is it about NUFC, we are championship team now but the press and tv want to continue to talk about us.

Last night on Radio 5 with Lauro’s prem league predictions.. talked about us.

Now on football focus, 2 minutes in and we are mentioned!

So in one breath people say we’re not a big club, definately if you mean silverware wise but then in the next breath want to talk about a non EPL team. Not much point to this except it is mildly amusing but more so irritating.

However Hughes on now is a dead man walking imo, 6-1 to be next prem manager sacked………

I just wish we could get our heads down and get on with it, shame our owner is doing everything possible to destroy this club.

O’Brien could be ok for us, a battler and has experience but we haven’t much choice tbh.

Hope the ground is empty today – as a vote of no confidence in the way the club is being run.

But no – 40000+ turn up, line Ashleys pockets with gate money and money from catering. They wil hurl abust at him but he will be able to look around and count the profit he is making as well as planning the next player to leave
