Newcastle owner Mike Ashley did make an appearance in the stands at St. James’ Park today, as he continues to search for a buyer for Newcastle, but he received a cold reception from the home supporters, as was expected.
Mike Ashley and Barry Moat in happier times
Fortunately for Mike, Newcastle were on top most of the match, and ran out easy 3-0 winners, with a great hat trick from striker Shola Ameobi.
Barry Moat sat between Ashley and Managing Director Derek LLambias, and he will know within four days if his loan will go through at Barclay’s Bank and if he can buy his home town club from current owner Ashley.
We wonder if Barry would have sat in such a prominent position, if a deal with Ashley wasn’t close (we hope it is of course).
So it really looks like by Wednesday’s home game against Sheffield Wednesday , KO 7:45 pm, we should know who will be running the club this season, and we hope it’s Barry.
It looks like if Moat is successful it will be Moat with Shearer as manager, and if Ashley doesn’t sell it will be Ashley with Joe Kinnear as manager.
But on the showing today, and assuming we can strengthen the squad and not lose too many more of the lads in the next two weeks, we must stand a very decent chance of getting promoted at our first try.
That has to be the most important thing this season, and we expect the Newcastle supporters to be there again on Wednesday night to cheer on the lads, against Sheffield Wednesday, whatever the outcome of the ownership issue.
We seem to be getting what we didn’t get last season from the players, and that’s guts and fighting spirit.
Long may it continue.
Howay The Lads!!

A couple of times he was caught with the ball & almost gave it away, he was also useless in the air & was lucky not to get booked for being the last player & dragging back another player, as the lines man waved his flag like his arm was fallen off but the ref let play go on!!!
I’m guessing you never saw any of that then 😮

Then the defence will still be threadbare, we should keep him as he can play in a variety of positions.

The only thing I would say against him was when he nearly got turned but we were given a foul and when he let his man put a ball across the box.
Apart from that he didn’t really do anything wrong and looking comfortable in possession when holding off his man.
I think people become far too picky about certain players when they are having a bad run, he was fine today and no worse than Taylor.
Give the bloke a break.

Comment #97It would be ironic and just our luck if we have finally stumbled on a good partnership in Hughton and Calderwood, that will now be blown out one way or the other.
I remember Ashley saying he was looking for an investor. Why couldn’t he take Moat on as a partner who has local knowledge and experience and keep Hughton and Calderwood in situ?
If Ashley has to leave, I am not sure I really want Shearer as manager, as he would be too pally with Butt and Harper etc and his record to date has hardly been inspiring, failing to motivate a team to get one point needed at home to Fulham or at villa.
That said, Shearer will put bums on seats and anything is more palatable than the thought of
Kinnear returning.
For now though it looks like Hughton has a good thing going with good team spirit and good passing and moving – something we haven’t seen in a long long while.
We’ve shifted some deadwood, (Beye, Edgar and Bassong withstanding) and i really enjoyed today for a change.

id rather him gone, he’s a big earner and he is mistake-prone and we could still get a decent price for him now
i think if a new manager comes, we could get alternative back-up, sol and steve taylor at the back sounds good!!

i think in alan shearer, it would be the perfect chance for NUFC to finally have a long term manager, the fans will give him the necessary time and the championship would be a good induction year for him to learn his trade and build the team and staff that he wants

Comment #104I think Colo hair is getting into everyones eyes, he’s shite & not worth the £10.5m we paid for him,… he’s meant to be an Argie International & he was run ragged by the Reading strikers, he’s slow, short & crap at defending, if he was any good, do you really, serioulsy think he wouldn’t have been snapped up by another team by now & if he was any good to us, why did he lose his position to Bassong, a 21 yr old???

I don’t think some of the fans on here would give him long after some of the comments made about him getting the managers job, they seem to think he’s got no tactical awareness or the ability to jeer players up,, all because he wasn’t able to get a bunch of useless lazy gits to win more than 1 game out of 8…. I mean, I don’t think Sir Alex or Sir Bob could have saved us from relegation with 8 games to go, never mind Shearer!!!

Comment #111Happy enough with to-days win although against a weakened Reading side.
It`s important to get an early start in a long hard season and have the team accostomed to winning, not like last season when the opposite happened.
Hmmmm, what are we to make of the fact Moat and MA sat to-gether to-day.
Perhaps there`s going to be a surprise for everyone.
Could it be that Moat may join forces with MA as a minor partner, something allready mooted by him earlier ?
This may in fact be the best possible way out of the present situation.
It would give the club an infusion of funds for the everyday operation, plus give the club money to rebuild.
In addition Moat would I am sure prevail on MA to ensure a business plan, operated by pro`s
was installed, which would include a Top management person plus a sound manager, with a track record (No Retreads Please)
Hell I would rather have Mr. Kraft from the New England Patriots just take over, but guess we gotta work with what we got.
At least get MA off the dime.

fans will be fans and there’ll always be those that go against the other, however the think the vast majority of toon fans want shearer as manager, they chant this in the stands, all fans adore shearer anyway, he commands repect from everyone, why else is every other repected football man thats played the game think shearer is the best man for the job….i reckon most of the players still in the NUFC squad want him appointed aswell, this is the perfect time for him
