Joey Barton, Ameobi and Carroll All Start

nufc-crest Reading FC

Newcastle United make one change from the side which drew at West Brom last Saturday with Joey Barton replacing Damien Duff.

Newcastle will again go with a 4-4-2 system with an up-front pairing of local lads Andy Carroll and Shola Ameobi.

Of course they could also play 4-3-3 with Smith, Nolan and Barton in midfield.

Steve Harper returns in goal, after being taken off at half-time at WBA because of a head injury.

Steve’s fit again to take his place between the posts.

Alan Smith captains the side again in the absence of Nicky Butt who still is recovering from his hand operation.

It seems to be too early for loan signing Danny Simpson, as he’s not included among the substitutes for today’s important game.

We need a win, and really nothing else will be good enough today.

The game is being broadcast live around the world.

Howay The Lads!!

Shola and Carroll all made the same runs and were always on top of each other against west Brom.

Reading have a very physical defence and instead of fighting fire with fire we should put ranger or even xisco or can move instead to add abit more pace up front.

And where is danny simpson?? Guess this game was too early for him i dunno.

Bit gutted about Duff but I’ve learnt to get over the departure of players I like or who could help us this summer. Every time football day rolls around I’m still just as excited as I ever was before!
Would like Simpson in for Ryan Taylor, Kadar for Colo and Ranger for Ameobi on the 60th minute or so. Looking at Readings team we really, really should be beating em, despite our current situation we’re a far superior side.
Alright gerrard mate, haven’t seen you on here in a while

and Taylor’s blatently staying, he bleeds black and white anyway, I reckon he’d refuse point blank to leave the toon unless a mega-offer came in. Chuffed to see him in the line-up! He always plays better at home as well

Ah fairplay mate sounds pretty hectic, yeah we did, we also narrowly lost to Leeds away last weekend by a Jermaine Beckford brace, he nicked the winner in the 88th. Not a bad start to the campaign for a side that was in the conference a worryingly short time ago. Just need to start putting the points on the board now and we’ll do alright I reckon! Barton for the first, or Carrol. Come on the lads!

Would absolutely love Smudger to get the winner today, or just a goal in general. I’ve always liked him and didn’t want us to sell him to Everton in Jan, but he’s gone right up in my respect books at the mo. Hope he keeps consistent and injury free

    I predicted 1:1 last match, I’m going for a flattering Newcastle 2:0 win today…

Gutted I’m not there but being a lowly student I can only afford to get to so many games while I’m at home and I chose the Sheffield game on Wednesday…Howway the lads, another committed performance but with a bit more bite and cutting edge!

Also, I know Duff apparently felt his hamstring in the Ireland game, but it looks like that is that with him – shame, he could’ve shone in the Championship!

I’d like to think 3 points are there for the taking. The back 4 should get a lot of protection from that midfield. Barton and Spidey should get at least an assist between them.

…wish Ranger was playing instead of Shola though. We’ll probli see him get 30 mins or so I reckon.

Yeah Rod I think, had it not been for strolla’s karate practice on Harper, we’d have seen Ranger actually have a prominant contribution….as it was he was only there to run the clock down for an away point…Still showed more class in those 3 minutes than Shola in 87!

Carroll and Ameobi have a good height advantage against the Reading defenders so we better see some good crosses coming in.
